Wanted to get this in under the wire.
Of the three repeat performances, I ranked them
Jake, “Don’t Close Your Eyes” - superb. I did notice on thing that was slightly off, I looked up the lyrics, and they cut the 6 line verses to 4 lines. That threw off the rhyme scheme. But he sang with such heart and conviction it didn’t ruin the performance, just made something glitch for me. Still, best of the set.
Josh, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours” - energetic and entertaining.
Christina, “Wrecking Ball” - I don’t know what it was, but something was off in this performance. Pitch, or something. I don’t know, it only really got good right at the end when she kicked it to 11.
On the new song performances, I reversed the order of preference.
Christina, “Can’t Help Falling In Love” - It’s a beautiful song, she delivered it with heart and soul, passion, and the big stuff was big. She made a unique rendition that worked. Loved it!
Josh, “Set Fire to the Rain” - He tapped his emotions and had the connection, but there were some pitch or tone problems for me. Still, good overall.
Jake, “Right Here Waiting” - I think he did a serviceable reworking of the song to country, but it wasn’t his best. I love this song, and it worked in this form. I did spot one or two places he tweaked the delivery off the tempo, and those stood out for me. Overall, an okay but not awesome performance.
So, Josh has it for consistency, being #2 both times. I would pick Christina for her new song performance, but Jake did well.
Just saw on the news that Josh’s song was misfiled on iTunes, so no word on how that will affect the voting or what they will do to compensate. I’m sure that will be big news on the show tonight.
I’d prefer anyone to win over Blake this season. Usher winning would shake it up, Adam winning would put him on even terms with Blake.
I did watch the other performances, but I didn’t rank the duets in their voting.
