I’m going to miss The Voice. It was a good season. It lagged a bit at the end when the contestants were just pretty much doing the same thing every week, but in a good way. It was good singing every week. There just weren’t that many surprises, which makes for better TV viewing.
I didn’t care for the finale much. All the humor fell flat for me. Christina doing parodies of other female singers seemed very strange. She’s been the butt of so many parodies and jokes that she doesn’t seem to enjoy, so for her to parody other singers seemed just uncomfortable and odd.
The skit with Reba and Adam fell flat for me because it seemed to be parodying MiaZ. Almost all of those comments were made to MiaZ, and she went home based on those comments. It didn’t seem funny that Adam was hurt by them. I’m sure MiaZ wasn’t pleased with them either.
The retiring Adam’s jersey just didn’t make much sense. What did that have to do with the show?
The guest talent was OK. But it often feels like forced reverence. They invite guest artists and the contestants are forced to fawn over them or be seen as ungrateful. It looked like some of them are really awed to be a part of it, but others didn’t.
My preference for these kind of shows would be to make it more in-house, showing more stuff that happened during the season with clips of the contestants interacting with each other when they’re not performing or clips of the contestants doing stuff that was cut out of the show because of time constraints. I would like to see more emphasis on showing the contestants.
Just a quick note on the difference between The Voice and American Idol. I watched American Idol for the first time this season. It’s official that I’m watching too much reality TV because I saw Nick Fradiani, the winner of American Idol on America’s Got Talent and remembered him from that.
The singing talent in general on American Idol is much worse starting out than on The Voice. There are more professional on The Voice, so the level of talent to get in is higher. But as has been mentioned, more American Idol winners have gone on to have impressive careers. I think that’s because of the promotion of the winners on American Idol. I’ve seen more interviews on youtube of Nick Fradiani than I’ve seen of any The Voice winner. American Idol has Scott Borchetta to promote the talent. The Voice winners just record the album and fall off the map.
It’s surprising that a show as popular as The Voice can’t attract a promoter to help the talent after the show is over.
I laughed at this, and somehow I have a feeling he would too. Any particular reason for the insult? I like his column but he’s really opinionated. When he’s arguing with Melinda Doolittle in the youtube videos, they don’t often agree, but they’re good-natured about it. And he faces the American Idol contestants after they don’t make it, even if he’s written negative stuff about them. He seems to be respected by them.
And to be fair, not everyone is picking the winners based on the lack of a coach’s ramblings on God.
