The wearing of the green

I am neither catholic nor protestant, and am not irish so I do not bother with the wearing of the green or orange.

Parts of my family are Irish and Catholic. I only had one clean work shirt this morning and it happened to be turquoise-striped.

In my head, St Patrick’s day only happens on Sunday, when I can go downtown, watch the parade, and have Irish coffee with my breakfast.

I wore green. Catholic but no Irish descent. Deliberate green attire in no small part because I work for a woman with a fucked-up sense of humor, and I just didn’t want to deal with it. She’ll find any excuse for a friendly tease, and I don’t like to be teased, no matter how friendly, and that goes double for when I’m at work.

I didn’t know, seriously, that there was any political significance to wearing orange today, but then, I kinda don’t follow Irish politics (in much the same way that I kinda don’t follow cricket). Ignorance fought, I suppose. Wore a bright orange skirt yesterday - glad I didn’t put that off till today!

I have some Irish in me. Although I own a fairly large wardrobe, none of it is green, unless you count grass stained jeans.

I’m of Irish descent; all green except for my shoes.
:stuck_out_tongue:

Some Irish descent, and I usually wear orange on St. Patrick’s Day.

I bought six pairs of St. Patrick’s-themed socks at Target, because I adore argyle socks with shamrocks on them (come on, who doesn’t??). My daughter and I argued about who got which ones. But I will wear them anytime, not just today. Also I wear an awful lot of green–it’s my best color and my favorite.

Yep, I’m wearing green today. And cooking corned beef for dinner, yum. I’m even thinking of going the besotted-parent route and posting my best video of my daughter doing Irish dance on FB, but I’m trying to refrain because it’s not actually very interesting. :stuck_out_tongue:

I do not look good in most greens and, therefore, do not have any green clothes at present. I would have had to make a serious effort to dress in green today.

I’m not wearing green, but I am wearing a “Book of Kells” tie (browns and golds).

I have a small amount of Irish ancestry (3/16) but the names indicate that they would not be wearing green. My wife, on the other hand, is pure green, so my kids are half-and-half.

St. Paddy’s Day is a good excuse to drink beer, and as a person of Irish extraction, I’m happy to throw something green on and have a fun day.

This. Green is not a particularly good color for me. I tend to buy clothes all in one color palette, making it easy to mix and match without worrying overly much about what goes with what. So I tend not to ever buy green, so every St. Patrick’s day rolls around finding me with no green to wear. I am of Irish descent, and even though I’m not Catholic now, I was raised in that faith.

I am as much Irish as about 10 other nationalities in my well blended background and I deliberately wore my only green (and navy stripes!) sweater today.

Mostly however because the VP of our project team is 100% Irish

What’s this about wearing orange? I’ve not heard of that part of the tradition…

I am about 1/8 Irish, I guess, not Catholic tho. Green is one of my favorite colors so I have several green shirts, and yes, I am wearing one today.

I forgot — but I threw a green scarf on at the last minute, and now I have to wear it all day! It’s pretty vivid, too.

Wearing orange is generally the habit of assholes and Protestants.

So is the sun rising in the east, or setting in the west.

My family’s a bit Irish, a bit this and that, and about half Scottish by background (but pure American mutt at this point, honestly). I’m wearing a green shirt on purpose to the office today, because why not? But when I go out to tie one on tonight, I’ll wear a blue shirt. My friends will call me a Scottish bastard, I’ll call them plastic Paddys, and then we’ll all damn the English.

I’m not Irish, and I don’t own any green clothes. Maybe a t-shirt. There’s a copper coin in my change pocket with some verdigris on it, though.

I have some Irish ancestry, but I mainly try to wear green just to go along with the crowd. This morning I forgot until the last minute, so I put on some emerald earrings.

Some Americans’ observance of the day is stupid bullshit.
