This week, the Santos campaign actually does something right and puts Vinick on the defensive with the issue of religion in government and intelligent design. I liked how Santos responded to the English teacher who wanted to have his school district teach ID. I wish we had some real politicians who would be as literate and persuasive.
This Mr. Frost guy - what’s his deal? He shows up talking about a series of assassinations, gets beat down by the super NSA agent, then disappears when it looks like he’s right. I wonder where this story arc is going?
And where the hell is Nancy? You couldn’t get away from the woman the first couple of seasons she was on, and now she doesn’t even brief President Barlett when the leader of another country the US is in major talks with is killed. Remeber back in the day when she was hanging out in the situation room, an island of serenity surrounded by chaos?
Margaret’s last name is Hooper. Did we ever know that?
And Toby, you bastard. It’s gonna take a lot for me to buy that he’s responsible. It better all fit, or I’m writing an angry letter to the show’s producers.
The problem is that folks don’t want to hear about fairness and being free from someone else’s religious belief. They want others to be made to believe as they do, because they are right.
That’s been my theory all along. I refuse to believe that he would go again what he thought his brother would have wanted. But the only person I can see him covering fo is Pres. Barlett, and from the coming attractions it seems that old Jed is pretty pissed. So I don’t know what to think now.
It simply blows my mind that Margaret would show up without a lawyer present. Whether it be through her own volition or because the White House compelled her, she simply should have had some sort of legal representation at that meeting.
But then, I’m a tad cynical already of any show that expects us to believe Congress would do something about a national security leak in the White House…
I don’t think so. Leo, while responsible for bringing Toby into then-Gov Barlett’s campaign, doesn’t seem to inspire that type of loyalty from Toby. I could be wrong, especially since the mere fact of Leo being questioned would sink the Santos campaign (in TWW’s world, at least this is a certainty). But Leo said something earlier (last week? Early in last night’s episode?) "Why do I need a lawyer if I didn’t do anything wrong.
And Ender, it is a Republican-controlled investigation that is hostile to the Barlett administration during an election year. That’s why Congress is out for blood. They don’t care who they bring down, as long as that person is connected to the Barlett White House, and then it can be used against Santos.
Oh, my mistake. I guess, as Foghorn Leghorn would say, I’m built to low to the ground - the fast ones go right over my head.
So what were those conversations that CJ and Brock were having? Margaret did say she listened in on at least one of them. I don’t think it was her having an affair (when would CJ have the time?), and it definitely wasn’t three conversations a day about the secret military shuttle. My guess - she’s looking for a job after the turnover, and was thinking about getting back into PR or reporting. Well, maybe not. But I still don’t think it was an affair.
I hate Cox Cable and my DVR…it showed that West Wing was moved to 9:00 last night (so I figure it was moved due to some sports game) and then I find it was actually on at 8:00 so the machine didn’t tape it. So I didn’t get to see Mr. Frost, but I can tell you, I am now frosted and Cox will be getting a call…
(Thanks for the thread that filled me in on what I missed!)
This got me thinking about the other time folks that worked for Jed Bartlett needed lawyers. It was explained to Charlie by Oliver that it would cost about $100,000 to have representation at one of these things. Luckily, Jed then stepped up and took the sanction, so none of his grunts (after Leo) would need to testify. So I’m thinking that Margaret went into this without consul because of what CJ told her (“I want you to tell the truth”), the thought that if she didn’t do anything wrong, she didn’t need a lawyer, and the cost. She just had a baby, remember.
But the thing is, what his brother would have “wanted” would’ve meant the death of the astronauts. Toby just lost his brother, so I think it’s safe to say he may not have been thinking completely casually, but on a purely emotional level. He didn’t want other astronaut families to mourn the way he was mourning (even though the nature of the deaths are different).
Toby’s not covering for anybody. He did it (something I suspected since the new season started).
It certainly fits with the beginning scenario (dedication of the Bartlet Presidential Library scene) of the first ep of the season - Toby’s demeanor, etc.
Agreed. And all the people high in the administration who said “I don’t need a lawyer if I’ve done nothing wrong.” They should (and would) know better.
You’re absolutely right in that, but that wasn’t the impression that I (and a few others, it seems) walked away with.
True, Toby and his brother (David?) weren’t on very close terms, and he was very affected by the brother’s suicide. SO if they bring up the earlier conversation, but then he explains why he still outed the shuttle, then I guess I could buy it.
On a side note, what’s with the sexual tension the Tiny Press Secretary feels towrads Leo? I never saw that one coming.
