The "Whats the deal with your name?" Thread

My username has no deeper significance - just a word play of “brood” and “Buddha”. Kinda silly, I guess.

I like Geoffrey Chaucer. A lot! Guess you could say I was crazy for him.

It’s a corruption of one of my nicknames from college, “Zippo.” My shtick was to carry a lighter with me when going out so I could light girls’ cigarettes as a conversation starter.

When I signed up for the SDMB, I couldn’t get “Zippo” or any of the several alternatives I tried, so I ended up with “Zappo” and it seems to have stuck.

Actually, “Dumb” is letting the world know your login and passwords. You might think about changing your passwords now.

Everywhere.

-Belrix (paranoid Unix system administrator)

Don’t think we know his PW - by “the same” I thought he meant he used the same PW for everything, which of course is dumb. :>

Debaser is a song by the Pixies. Plus, it sounds cool.

Allen Parine was an NPC in an AD&G campaign I ran years and years ago. It was a tossup between that and Creamy Mami, simply because I happened to be watching it on DVD at the time. I decided to go with the name that no one would recognize, but would cause the least gender confusion.

LOL! bristlesage, you sound like one of us native (and near-native) Arizonans:

No, it’s not all desert.
Yes, it snows where I live.
Yes, it also gets very cold.
Yes, it also gets very hot.
I can stand the heat because I grew up here without air conditioning!

I picked 5 Time Champ, because I could. In 2001 I became a 5 time undefeated Jeopardy! champion with winnings of $50,703 and a 2002 Chevy Tahoe.

someone’s misspelling of Bowl of CreamCheese

i was an anthro major in college. i was studying primate morphology one semester and had to pick a species to do a paper on. the species i picked was sivapithecus sivalensis - a species of fossil ape from the miocene era (i forget when this was…maybe 10 million years ago) of pakistan. at the beginning, i tried to use sivapithecus, but get this…it was taken!!! so i’m sivalensis, and that’s what i use for most of the sites now.

My first post… this looked like a good place to jump in.
Auliya means female on the left hand of God or God’s handmaiden in the Zensunni warriors religion on Arrakis (Frank Herbert’s Dune)

It also means friend, helper, supporter, protector etc, in Islam.

I bit odd for an atheist I suppose… but I liked it. On the G’Dope board they made me use 2 Y’s :frowning:

Xenopsylla cheopis.

You gonna change your name when you run into dynamic programming?

[sub]Actually, look it up. It’s way cool, and can blow recursion out of the water sometimes.[/sub]

The source of my name is described here. Believe it or not, someone actually recognized where it was from.

A few years back, there was a show on ABC that was doomed from conception: It’s Like…You Know.

Anyhoop, I saw a teaser for an episode that went something like this. A man is sitting in a restaurant…

It had me in stitches for weeks.

Because most places require spaces in usernames to be replaced with underscores, that’s where they came from. The diminuative, which many dopers have figured out already, is simply Soup. Unfortunately, when I registered, there already was a Soup, which was my first choice. :frowning:

Oh well. It’s recognizable and original, which is all I can ask.

-Soup

My name is Andy and I am a girl.

Actually, my real first name isn’t Andy, although I’ll answer to either one IRL. My middle name is Anderson.

I have no idea what the deal with my name is. I must have been drunk when I made it.

:::Hijack begin:::

Ah, Squish, I am one of you. Except from Nevada. But I sure do get tired of explaining to people what the desert is really like. Only a couple of differences: it doesn’t snow where I live (not very often, anyway), and it is all desert. Unless it’s mountains, but they’re pretty much desert. But it doesn’t mean it’s a dead state!

:::Hijack end:::

Nope. note me.

Signed,
Mr Seven Graylands

heh heh

The day before I registered on my preferred message board, my fiancee and I had diner in restaurant Dragon Phoenix in Singapore. I liked the name. When I registered on this one (much) later, I kept the name as my handle.
