The Who to continue tour without founding member and bassist John Entwistle?

That the Who continue to tour period is pretty mystifying as far as I’m concerned.

Hope I die before I get old indeed. Hmph.

Once I heard they were going to continue with the tour, I put Pino on top of the short list. When I saw the Psychoderelict tour Pino was on bass. After the performance of Psychoderelict, they did a set of Townshend & Who songs. I believe Pino also played with Roger on “The Music Of The Who”, so he is probably ready to hit the ground running.
I don’t envy his task.
As far as their continuing the tour, I’m mixed on that. It does seem cold and mercenary. But who can tell how some people prefer to deal with grief. Perhaps being on the road where you know exactly what’s expected of you is a way of coping.
I’m sure Clear Channel has been pulling on Pete’s coat very hard about everything at stake.
Not to mention the Who’s extended family and staff. I imagine the pressures on Pete are not unlike those that were placed on Jerry Garcia to keep touring to support all of the people involved in the Dead organization.
We’ll just have to check in on Pete’s diary entries for more insight. If his diary entries of past tours are indicative, he’ll be very forthcoming.
Good luck Pete and Roger.

As for financial obligations to put on the planned Who shows…I was under the impression that promoters hold insurance policies in the event of a catastrophy like the death of one of the preformers. I have to doubt that they are continuing to play to insure the paycheck of “the little people”, who do the grunt work of putting on the show. If they MUST continue for whatever reason, so be it. This tour, with the unfortunate passing of Entwistle, puts The Who back in the headlines and insures sold out venues. The last time I saw them was in '82…for their farewell tour! Without the “bottom” of the classic Who sound, (Entwistle and Keith Moon) they should now call themselves “Who’s Left”.
I also had the privalege of seeing them preform in 1968, pre-Tommy, when they were a four man band. (no keyboards, et al) It was incredible! At the end of their set, they did what the crowd was hoping for as a finnaly. Moon and Townsend proceeded to destroy their instruments, the stage, and anything on it.
As much as I loved watching it, part of me would feel sad watching all that equipment being destroyed. The band I was in, as well as countless others, would have cherished owning that stuff! R.I.P. Ox

I was at the Shoreline show 7/3. Amazingly, a pair of front row seats fell in my lap that day.
I was extremely curious to see how they would deal with everything that had gone down.
If you have the opportunity at all, go to see them! They sounded so great and played with such an intensity. Pete was incendiary! Roger looked and sounded better than ever. Zak is an incredible drummer and really drives the band.
Sure John was missed, the bottom wasn’t as full, but the power was certainly there.
The set list was the same as the Hollywood show and I’ll be it stays pretty static:
I Can’t Explain
Substitute
Anyway Anyhow Anywhere
Who Are You
Another Tricky Day
Relay
Bargain
Baba O’Riley
Eminence Front

I took my 13 year old daughter with me.
The payoff… as we were leaving she says to me, “Wow! I can never go see N’Sync again!”
Priceless!!!
