The whole nation has a filthy manner of life

“No, no…first the match…oh,…look, i’ll do it, I’ll do it, here, it’s not that hard…”

Uh, there are airplanes to Canada, aren’t there? At least there were last I heard…

I found a link to the article, though I don’t know how long it will be good for: http://www.canada.com/ottawa/news/story.asp?id=E8740889-5656-470F-9770-7553C8E8D5B7

Looks like I had the date wrong; should have been a 2 July interview and article referring to a protest planned for 4 July. I have not come across anything indicting that they actually turned up. Anyone know?

I expect that if they did show, they would have to be somewhat circumspect in what they say, for we have a fairly new hate crime law in Canada: http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/c-46/41558.html

Criminal Code s. 319(2) might apply. I’d be curious to see if the religious debate defence would hold up.

An ice floe? It’s been done. How about tying slabs of meat to him and dropping in polar bear country?

I find it interesting how Phelps gets around to all the gay hotspots. Wherever large numbers of gay men gather, there he is. Which is strange, because he says we disgust him, and yet he goes out of his way to seek us out. I tend to avoid things that disgust me.

I wonder he vacations on Fire Island? Maybe he’s a circuit-party-goer. Maybe Montreal should send him tickets to Black and Blue?

So they had to get help from Canadian police to light a Canadian flag on fire to protest Canada? I swear, that sounds like a sketch from The Kids in the Hall.

I’d like to say that we’re not all insane half-wits in the U.S. Okay, there’s a certain percentage. Not saying how large it is.

Mama Tiger, they usually drive because it’s cheaper. They did fly to San Francisco one time, to picket at the funeral of Randy Shilts, but they had to leave the supporting poles and sticks for the signs behind(airline rules). Maybe they did fly this time, but the last couple of times they went to Canada they spoke of their “fears of being arrested as soon as they crossed the border”, and that sounds like land travel. Who knows what they will do though?

I’d still like to hear if they actually do arrive. If they do, and there is a newspaper link, I’d appreciate it if someone would give me a heads up on it.

What? The Canadian police helped them burn a Canadian flag? That’s UNAMERICAN!!!

Seriously, can you imagine what would happen if a cop in the U.S. helped protesters ignite a U.S. flag? It would be a raging controversy on the front pages of newspapers for weeks.

Maybe after this global warming kicks up a few notches I’ll think about moving up to Canada.

Yeah, the police may help you burn a flag or two, but watch out for the Prime Minister - he’s a tough sonofabitch. As likely to grab you by the throat as look at you.

Revtim, if you want a good story about burning the Canadian flag, send me an email. I’ve posted it several times, having first heard it from a fellow Doper), and he may be tired of hearing it repeated publicly.

Who would have thunk it: gay people rallying to save the flag! Who says patriotism is dead?

Do the police HAVE to give advice on how to burn the flag? Is it just the oft-cited Canadian politeness? Were they just trying to make sure that the protesters didn’t burn themselves, thus creating the possibility of a lawsuit? 'Cause I’m thinking, if someone asks ME that question, I’m gonna say, “Um … no.”

No obligation, just politeness.

Well, that and who wants to deal with the hassle of self-incinerating fundies? Too much paperwork.

And you might get a spot on the news.

Honestly, that image is going to give me the giggles all night now.

I just know, one day in the not-too-distant future, pictures of the Supreme Commander of the Department for the Promotion of Virtue and the Destruction of Vice (known to you and I as Fred Phelps) will surface. Those pictures will be covert ones of him being buggered senseless by a well built leather-wearing queen, and fellating a fellow congreation member, whilst tied to a bath house wall.

Ok, so maybe I don’t so much know it, as hope it to be true.
