OK, so I got it unpacked and set up last night, and here are my first impressions:
It’s got a good mix of activities, some that are a breeze for me, others that are really hard for me.
Some things that I thought would be simple and useless are challenging for me, in particular the yoga. I knew I was not very flexible, but I didn’t realize how bad I was.
In general, I wish there was a little more guidance/info. Two examples: first, when I set my fitness goal, it would have been nice to get a sense of whether my goal was too aggressive, standard, or not aggressive enough. As it was, I was just guessing. I suppose I’ll see in a couple of weeks how I’m progressing, but I wouldn’t have minded a little more info at that point. Second, the running exercise. The first time through I jogged along and got an 84% “burn rate.” I have a vague idea what that means, but not really. It was pretty good, though, so I didn’t give it much thought. Then I tried it again a little later and ran a little “harder” in hopes of increasing the rate. Of course, I bumped into the Mii who was leading me several times. Is that good that I’m pushing him or bad that I’m not keeping to the pace he wants? No clue. Result of that run: 54% burn rate. Huh? It would be great if they told me what exactly burn rate meant and how to do better at it.
As I suspected, my shallow living room causes some problems. To do the push-ups/arm lift thing, I need to face the balance board 90 degrees from the TV, making it impossible for me to watch my trainer and do the exercise simultaneously. I’m not too concerned about this, though. Once I get the routine down, I can do it without looking at the screen. But for now it makes it harder.
Overall, though, I’m finding it fun and good motivation. I put in almost an hour of exercise time last night, and 20 minutes this morning. (I never get up in the morning to exercise, so I hope the appeal lasts).
