The Wii Fit Thread

Yes.

I’m becoming a walking advertisement for the game. I know I mentioned when I first got it I was too heavy to use it. I am now 20 pounds under the maximum weight.

I go to the gym, but most weeks the Wii Fit is my main exercise.

I also have found that my biggest problems have been resolved with more use. (Notably that the Aerobics exercises were not very long. Who wants 5 minutes of Aerobics? But I’ve opened up longer ones that are 15+ minutes)

I’ve had mine for a week. Not really noticing much weight loss yet, but I do have a bit more energy during the day.

I love the Fit. But I haven’t done it much in the last week due to the heat, being busy, and straining the hell out of my thighs doing the lunges. I’m going to be revving up on it again soon.

K, I’ve read the first page, and am posting before I take the time to read the rest. I’ve got work to do, dammit!

I’m lucky in that my sister has access to the Nintendo employee store. I hadn’t heard about the Fit until a couple of days ago, and when I tried to get it, I found that it was to become an Expedition of Epic Proportions to find one. So I called my sister. Lucky me.

I love it. I’m 35, my first Wii Fit age was 47 and I am now down to 29. I’ve unlocked all the balance games, still working on unlocking the others.

And I’m addicted to boxing…

This thing kicks ass. Although my wife’s still wary of it.

Well, thanks to this thread posting the Wii alert site I managed to order a Wii console bundle. I didn’t even sign up for the alerts, I just refreshed the website this morning and saw a Wii in stock at Circuit City. The ordering process took forever, I was sure it would get yanked out of my cart but the order went through and I still haven’t received anything saying it’s backordered so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I will probably regret spending all this money when it’s time to pay all my bills this month but I’ve wanted to get one of these for a while and this was the first opportunity I’ve had to actually get one. This thread and the posting of the Wii alert site convinced me to just go ahead and get one at the first opportunity. Now I have to keep checking the site for the Wii Fit.

OK, so I got it unpacked and set up last night, and here are my first impressions:

It’s got a good mix of activities, some that are a breeze for me, others that are really hard for me.

Some things that I thought would be simple and useless are challenging for me, in particular the yoga. I knew I was not very flexible, but I didn’t realize how bad I was.

In general, I wish there was a little more guidance/info. Two examples: first, when I set my fitness goal, it would have been nice to get a sense of whether my goal was too aggressive, standard, or not aggressive enough. As it was, I was just guessing. I suppose I’ll see in a couple of weeks how I’m progressing, but I wouldn’t have minded a little more info at that point. Second, the running exercise. The first time through I jogged along and got an 84% “burn rate.” I have a vague idea what that means, but not really. It was pretty good, though, so I didn’t give it much thought. Then I tried it again a little later and ran a little “harder” in hopes of increasing the rate. Of course, I bumped into the Mii who was leading me several times. Is that good that I’m pushing him or bad that I’m not keeping to the pace he wants? No clue. Result of that run: 54% burn rate. Huh? It would be great if they told me what exactly burn rate meant and how to do better at it.

As I suspected, my shallow living room causes some problems. To do the push-ups/arm lift thing, I need to face the balance board 90 degrees from the TV, making it impossible for me to watch my trainer and do the exercise simultaneously. I’m not too concerned about this, though. Once I get the routine down, I can do it without looking at the screen. But for now it makes it harder.

Overall, though, I’m finding it fun and good motivation. I put in almost an hour of exercise time last night, and 20 minutes this morning. (I never get up in the morning to exercise, so I hope the appeal lasts).

I’m thinking of getting one of these for my brother (57). Are there WiiFit games/programs that would appeal to a guy who doesn’t like video games, but loves to ski. Is the skiing one for adults or is it very childlike? any other recommendations? Boxing? I’m mainly concerned with how it “looks”. If it looks too childlike I know he won’t get into it. Thanks.

I just checked the wii fit alerts and it showed Wal-mart had them in stock and it had only been listed one minute. It was out of stock again by the time I got the webpage open.
