The Wii Fit Thread

Awesome - thanks for that suggestion. Fingers crossed!

You can install that from inside the game, but it’s just the body test - not the actual game. I want the whole shebang on there so I don’t need the disc to do the exercises.

Good. At the rate things are going, I’ll probably get a hold of that before I ever get my hands on a Wii Fit.

I’m on wiialerts.com, but it does me little good because I have absolutely no internet access at work. I get the text messages, but by the time I get home, the Wii Fits are long gone.

Your best bet to secure one is to call around your local stores on Saturday and find out if they have a shipment for Sunday. Many stores will feature the Wii Fit on their Sunday circular, so they generally don’t unbox their latest shipment until Sunday morning. Show up before the store opens, and be one of the first people at the electronics counter, you stand a good chance of getting one.

When I did that, their shipment was late, but I managed to get on a list, and after following up a couple of times, got my Wii Fit just over a week later.

I don’t know if I found this here or not but I’ll post it anyway.

This is hilarious!

Yeah, I’d say it’s about spot on.

You must have gotten a talkative employee, then. Every time I’ve asked if they know when they are getting some in, they say they have no idea. I’ve probably asked that 20 times at least. :frowning:

You probably spoke to the ones who’d been asked 20 times that day already. I’ve had a couple employees say “check the circular, go in on the first day it says it’s valid for”, but the rest said they were never told when they’d get shipments. Which is true, but less helpful than the other instructions.

My experience is based on trying to get a Wii console first, which turned into getting it and the Fit at the same time.

I ended up getting ours by going through several sessions of hitting all of the convenient retailers’ websites. Amazon had them via different resellers but for obscene prices, so I stopped checking there. Maybe every other or every third weekend I’d hit the web and search the websites for Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, EBGames, Toys ‘r’ Us, Kmart, and Costco (we have a membership). At one point I’d heard there were supposed to be more Wiis available in the US in May, in time for new game launches (for the Fit, among others), so I stopped looking until mid May.

One weekend I found the Wii bundled with Wii Fit on Target’s website - supposedly a special Target-exclusive bundle - and put it in my virtual shopping cart, searched for another game, and it sold out between me looking over my order and my hitting the “Buy” button! My order came up with some sort of “your cart has changed since you last added to it” message and showed only the game, so I cancelled the whole thing, and yes, the bundle now was listed as sold out. A day or so later I was up early and went through the searching routine again, and Target had the bundle again, so I grabbed it and whipped through the ordering process.

Between us, my husband and I have only seen a Wii console for sale in a store twice. We haven’t been dedicated at all about driving everywhere to look, and didn’t follow the “check the circulars” method. I think the first time was on a Tuesday in December of all months, and my husband thought (rightly) that it wasn’t a good time to be spending money on a game system. The other time was this week Wednesday; we went to Costco at around 6:30 pm to do some grocery shopping, and there was a wooden pallet just inside the doors with one remaining Wii bundle on it, and a guy standing there talking on a cell phone (probably talking to spouse/friend/whoever about getting it or not). I was kind of surprised that one was left at that time of the night, but maybe it was put out later in the day.

Forgot to add: I haven’t seen the Fit itself for sale in a brick-and-mortar store at all, and haven’t checked availability at websites.

I finally got one today - called around like I’ve been doing for a while now, and when she said “yes we do” it actually took me a minute to register.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t know I can’t do a real push-up, so it thought my girl-pushups were the best! pushups! evar! Crap.

Also, that crap at the end of every exercise ought to be a lot more skippable. Yeah, I KNOW I can’t do Tree. I couldn’t do it when I took yoga lessons either. Shut the fuck up. Am I paying you to yammer and then show me a graph and then tell me I suck compared to me? There ought to be an option about that.

Also, it was kind and said I wasn’t overweight. It doesn’t know I’m bird boned and that I’ve gone from a size 2 to a 12 in three years.

The “check the Sunday ads” method worked well for getting a Wii (twice! I bought one for my parents, too) but it has done no good with Wii Fit. I went to many stores the day it was released–all gone. The only ad I’ve seen it in since was Kmart a few weeks ago, and it was gone there, too, since I wasn’t able to go until later in the day.

Target and Walmart’s websites supposedly tell you if a certain product is in your local store. Unfortunately, this feature has not been very accurate regarding the Wii Fit. It said it was available at a certain Target yesterday. I went there, and the man in the electronics department said they didn’t have any, didn’t know when the next shipment would be, check the ads, blah, blah, blah. I have to call ahead next time to see if it actually exists before I make the trip. (I just checked–it still says it’s there. Grrrrrrr…)

Yesterday the Future Shop web site said they had Wii Fit in stock at the local store. So I drove over to get one… They had gotten 25 copies in that morning, and there were 34 people lined up outside the door to get them when the store opened. I got there an hour after the store opened, and they were long gone. These things are just as hard to find as the Wii was.

Yesterday, I called one Game Stop that had gotten two and sold them, three that had gotten none, and one that had gotten one and still had it (which was the one I got). The place I got mine hadn’t gotten any for weeks, though. It seems to be entirely a crapshoot. I did try that one because it’s a little off the beaten path and was rewarded.

Just coming in to say thank you to Lsura for recommending this. It took a little while, but I just got buzzed, ran to the computer, and managed to get one. And the big bonus: it was from Best Buy.com, so I got to use my gift card after all. Score!

Should be here in a about a week!

Darn it! I was in the dentist’s chair. I didn’t even notice the message until now.

Target had them in their ad this week. I woke up late on Sunday and didn’t see it until 8:30. Well, they open at 8 and the guy at Target said they were already sold out.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand, I got screwed by Best Buy.

I completed the order, got a confirmation # and estimated arrival date, then 2 hours later got another email saying that it was “back ordered.” When I called, the “customer service” woman said they didn’t have any and she had no idea when they would get any. I asked if that was true, why the hell did I get an order with a confirmation and a shipping estimate, and she could not explain. Since she had no idea when they would get any, I cancelled the order.

Fuckers!

Got a wiialert today and nabbed it from walmart.com. Should finally be here next week!

Jerks. :frowning: At least Target’s system was very much real-time with me, to the point where it yanked the item from my online “cart” when it sold out during my shopping.

I know you’ve all been waiting with bated breath to find out if and when I would finally get a Wii Fit. So I am here to report: got it!

I had pretty much given up on WiiAlerts and was just going to wait until I could get one in a store due to several aborted attempts to purchase one online (see above). Then I got another WiiAlert from Best Buy online. As I am a glutton for punishment (actually, b/c I really wanted to use that damn gift card on it), I ordered it again.

Same fucking thing happened: ordered it, got a confirmation and estimated delivery date, then a couple hours later I got an email saying it was back-ordered. This time, though, I decided to flow with the tao and wait it out. Since my plan was to wait anyway, I figured I would just hang out with the order pending and see what happened.

Well, sure enough, several days later they emailed me that it had shipped. I still didn’t really believe it, but then I started tracking the package and it was clearly wending its way across the country to me. Got it from UPS today! I’ll be unboxing and playing as soon as I get home tonight! Woohoo!

So, you guys still using yours?

I was out of town for a conference, and then had to send my Wii in for repairs, but I should have it back to night and I can’t wait to be able to use it again! And to be scolded for the time I didn’t work out.
