The Wikipedia Game

Septimius Severus –> Pannonia –> Slavs –> Poland –> Borders_of_Poland –> Ogrodniki,_Sejny_County –> Gmina_Sejny –> Konstantynówka,_Gmina_Sejny
Next up:

Konstantynówka,_Gmina_Sejny –> … –> Yata_no_kagami

Ooo, that’s a good one.

Konstantynówka, Gmina Sejny > Lithuania > History of the Jews in Lithuania > Chiune Sugihara > Empire of Japan > Hirohito > Imperial Regalia of Japan > Yata no kagami

I was especially glad to be able to refer to Sugihara - I’ve been an admirer of his since seeing a PBS bio of him several years ago: Chiune Sugihara - Wikipedia

Next round - the second topic is the Wiki-supplied random article:

Yata no kagami > National Lacrosse League Entry Draft

Yata_no_Kagami –> Japanese_folklore –> Japanese_culture –> Theatre_of_Japan –> Japanese_cuisine –> Toronto –> Champion’s_Cup –> National_Lacrosse_League_Entry_Draft

Next up:
National_Lacrosse_League_Entry_Draft –> … –> Lago_di_Baratz

This one stumped me. I tried it from both ends, and just can’t find any link(s) between the two. Easy to get to Italy or Sardinia, but then I hit a brick wall.

It’s on the Sardinia page in the Geography section. In fact, that’s the only regular page the Lago is linked from according to “What Links Here”

Huh - thanks! I looked hard but didn’t see it there. Well, then:

National Lacrosse League Entry Draft > Loyola University Maryland > Society of Jesus > Latin > Italy > Sardinia > Lago di Baratz

Next up:

Lago di Baratz > Fissurella verna

[Lago di Baratz](Lago - Wikipedia di Baratz) –> Italy –> [Fauna of Italy](Fauna - Wikipedia of Italy) –> Annelida –> Mollusc > Limpet –> Fissurellidae –> Fissurella –> Fissurella verna

Next up:

Cake –> Death

Cake –> Food –> Starvation –> Death

Next: Top (toy) –> James Mill

Even though it wasn’t random, bonus points for the Eddie Izzard gag.

Top –> Antiquity –> Economics –> James Mill
Now, James Mill to the AIM-120 missile.

James Mill –> London –> The Blitz –> RAF Fighter Command –> Fighter aircraft –> F-22 Raptor –> AIM-120 AMRAAM

Now do AIM-120 AMRAAM to Oligokyphus.

[OOG] I want to interject a boring note on taxonomy.

The extinct Oligokyphus is considered a reptile and is, according to Wikipedia, in Superfamily Chiniquodontoidea of Suborder Cynodontia of Order Therapsida.

What is interesting, and demonstrates that traditional taxonomy leads to inconsistencies, is that all mammals are also in Superfamily Chiniquodontoidea even though those mammals form Class Mammalia, with Classes far above Superfamilies in the taxonomic rank hierarchy.

Ah, the joys of the Wikigame! There’s probably a more efficient way, but I came up with:

AIM-120 AMRAAM > Radar cross-section > Electric field > Electromagnetism > Physics > Science > Life sciences > Zoology > Paleozoology > Vertebrate paleontology > Synapsida > Therapsida > Oligokyphus

Next up (the second, as always, is Wiki’s random article du jour):

Oligokyphus > Quebec Route 309

Oligophylus > Jurassic > Sundance Sea > Canada > Quebec > Gatineau > List of Gatineau Roads > Quebec Road 309

Quebec Route 309 > HMS Stalker

Wikigame wikigame wikigame!

Still a little clunky:

Quebec Route 309 > Transports Quebec > Canada > Elizabeth II > Monarchy of the United Kingdom > Royal Navy > List of ships of the Royal Navy > List of active Royal Navy ships > HMS Ocean (L12) > List of amphibious warfare ships of the Royal Navy > HMS Stalker

HMS Stalker > Client Access to Integrated Services and Information

Now that’s not cricket. Posting a challenge that can only be linked through articles composed solely of lists in the body is going against the spirit of the rules.

I propose addendums to the rules of the OP:

  1. Exclude all links below the “See also:” header in the article.
  2. Exclude all articles composed solely of link lists, link tables, or other link collections.
  3. If the poster proposes two articles that cannot be linked without violating the rules at the time and date of their posting*, that poster forfeits and the prover of the rule violation, excluding the poster**, gets to propose two new articles instead.

*This is to prevent cheating by someone modifying articles after the challenge has been posted.
**This will prevent a poster from posting a challenge, then proving the articles can’t be linked so that they get to issue a new challenge.

What say ye? Will somebody second these motions?

Now onto my solution:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Client_Access_to_Integrated_Services_and_Information

And my new challenge:

Client Access to Integrated Services and Information to Göbekli Tepe.

Client Access to Integrated Services and Information > Toronto > Orthodox Christianity > First Council of Constantinople >Hagia Irene > Turkey > Göbekli Tepe

Göbekli Tepe > Circuit reliability

Circuit reliability to Marinoan glaciation. Bonus points for not going through the “Science” or “Philosophy” articles.

Circuit reliability>Time>Geologic time scale>Cryogenian>Marinoan glaciation

Cryogenian pnly appears in a table and a list though.

Marinoan glaciation > Clock Tower of Murshidabad

As always, my second link was the random article which Wiki itself provided.

I think your proposed rules are unduly restrictive, and I would vote against them.

Marinoan glaciation > Douglas Mawson > King George V Land > King George V Coast > George V > Governor-General of India > Hazarduari Palace > Clock Tower of Murshidabad

Next up:

Clock Tower of Murshidabad > National Bank Challenger Saguenay
