The Wire Finale **Spoilers**

Well, I didn’t think the finale was as good as the shows preceeding but I guess it was an apporpriate ending.

It’s almost believable that the show could end now. Bell dead. Avon in Jail for a while. The Wire, shut down.

However, there’s still some gold to be mined. I NOW believe, like one poster said last week, that the new season could start with Carcetti already mayor, but they might make a mayoral race a story line, too.

There’s new tension in the drug war, but is there really anything left for them to say after this season? They can’t just start all over again on Marlo and Omar.

Maybe they get something out of the “Cutty” story.

McNulty seems happy walking the beat, but of course there’s room for him to do something.

Don’t forget that during the “montage” at the end, they panned over a picture of Sabatka. So, maybe that’s a subtle hint that we’ll revisit that. Or maybe, they were just saying “goodbye”.

clue me in here. . . who was the woman that McNulty went to visit? A sister or something?

She (Beatrice Russell) was the dock inspector that teamed-up with McNulty and the special investigations unit working on the Sobotka/dead European girls in the container case. Last season, there was a portion of one show where McNulty started to put the moves on her. As they talked, he found that they both shared similarities (police work, of course, but also - kids, marriage in tatters, how to balance personal life and work). When they got back to her place, something must of happened to McNulty and he graciously excused himself for the night. My guess is that he saw that even though her life wasn’t exactly how she had hoped it would be, she had somehow found some sort of balance between her work and her life with her kid. And I suspect that McNulty didn’t want to mess with that balance by acting like, well, McNulty.

I think the scene with Beatrice Russell is an indication to us the viewers that McNulty has finally turned some sort of corner. That while being a cop (and especially a good cop) is important, it isn’t everything. Or rather, one needs to find some sort of balance where one’s work and one’s personal life can coexist harmoniously. Otherwise, you are only half a person. I especially liked how he said no to her invitation for a drink, but that he would really like to meet her kid.

We’ve seen little instances of McNulty changing (or taking steps towards changing) in other scenes over that last 2 years, but more frequently this year.
What clinches that the change is real when he tells Daniels he wants to go work in the Western District - he started there and he remembered that when he worked there he was happy. We see this as McNulty has a big grin on his face while sitting in a meeting in one scene; and in another scene when he walks down the street.

Who was the other woman Kima was with? I was a bit too distracted by that scene to notice whose face it was…

Dunno - but it definitely WASN’T her significant other. We get that from the cell phone call and the name “CHERYL” appears (the name of Kima’s SO). We also know it wasn’t Cheryl when during the scene where McNulty and Bunk are talking, McNulty gets a call from Cheryl asking him about Kima. McNulty made up some story about Kima transporting a prisoner (and we find out more about the story when Kima thanks McNulty on covering for her).

In short - Kima was being a bad girl (much like McNulty used to be a bad boy)…

Thanks that what I figured. But with “The Wire”, for all we know it could have been some character who was on screen for 5 seconds in the second episode of Season 1.

I thought it was a good way to go out, although it did sort of seem like the good guys had notched a “victory,” which isn’t what the show has been about. But it’s unsurprising that Marlo is still out there; the product is still flowing and the War will never be won.
