To the 2 other people out there who care about this show. . .
Here’s an article indicating HBO’s “The Wire” will return for a 4th season.
In short,
Person 1 says: Yay! A very nice surprise…
Person 2 says - Woo Hoo!!! I’m really, really glad that HBO decided to have a fourth season.
Surprise! Person 3 checks in…yippee!!!
And I had just heard someone tell me it looked like it was over for good.
This show grows on you, and at the end of the season, you somehow feel you were there and not just watching it.
This is also from the article
Supposedly, it’s going to focus on the educational system, which has me excited.
David Simon has just shown an ability to take on the most complex issues and show every angle of them with compassion and understanding and contempt on all sides, along with an understanding of the “shifted morality” that occurs within the system. He always gives a sense of how we got there, how it’s maintained, the way it interacts with the beurocracies.
And, he basically presents it with the viewpoint, “this is the way it is, and this is the way it’s gonna stay.”
The Baltimore School system (and I’m sure this is true of any big city school system) is a mess. And some blame the parents. Some blame the kids. Some blame the teachers. Some blame the city. Some blame the whites. Some blame the blacks.
And they’re all right. And they’re all wrong.
As far as I’m concerned, this could be the most riveting season yet. I couldn’t imagine a better guy handling it.
Number 4 checking in. I had given up on The Wire, what with The Shield FINALLY back, but I’m glad we’ll get to see McNaulty and crew back again.
I e-mailed HBO in support of the show’s renewal, so I am truly delighted that there will be more episodes of The Wire. It’s the best show on TV, doesn’t dumb itself down or pull punches. As a teacher, I am excited to see Simon’s take on the educational system in a big city. Plus, it has Omar Little, my favorite TV character.
Yay!
Oh, good goddamn, this makes me happy. I only got into The Wire last year, what with the DVD releases and all, and am currently making my way through the second (and my buddy has the third season on VHS). Between The Shield and The Wire, I’m a very happy camper.
Y’know what my favorite thing about The Wire is? No forced anger. The characters joke and banter and rib each other, but always do so with a smile (except for Rawls). They’re genuinely pleasant people (well, mostly).
“These are for you, McNulty.”
That’s great news. The Wire is simply the best cop show ever, bar none.
I was kinda bored when I started watching the first few episodes, but after a while, I was hooked. It’s so refreshing to watch a show that actually FEELS real without all those contrived drama, simplistic morality and romanticizations that make you roll your eyes over and over again.
Bref, it’s a true classic and a must see for anyone with good taste.
I agree. In my opinion, there are no episodes… it’s the most continuous feeling show I’ve ever seen, one big story from start to finish, like a 13-hour long movie. Pure brilliance.
My patience in finally figuring out who everybody is has paid off!
I figured that someone that liked The Wire couldn’t have bad taste so since you mentionned The Shield, I gave it a try. I just watched the first 5 episodes an I like it so far so Thanks!
Hooray! **The Wire ** is so complex, so well-written and acted, and so believable. I have loved all three seasons so far and marvel at the quality. It’s a show that you have to pay attention to–you can’t be balancing your checkbook at the same time and hope to keep up.
Here is my sad Wire story: My husband and I usually tape each week’s episode to watch later (I go to bed early, and having it on tape allows me to rewind if I missed something or want to watch a particularly good scene again–like the “fuck” murder investigation scene with . . . was it Bunk and McNulty?). Anyway, this past season, we had taped the next to last episode and HE taped over it with no more replays on HBO and, believe me, we searched. So we had a dilemma: do we watch the last episode not having seen the previous one or do we wait until HBO repeats the entire season as they usually do during the summer? We agreed that we wanted to see the whole arc unbroken and decided to wait. I still haven’t seen the last two episodes of the recent season. Well, yesterday, to my great dismay, I spoilered myself in Entertainment Weekly reading an interview with Idris Elba (Stringer Bell). I was sooooooo mad. I really don’t like spoilers. Now, not only do I know what happened, I have to hope very fervently that HBO repeats the season this summer. And that I get TIVO.
