"THE WIRE": Your Favorite Characters from: THE STREET

The poll will be for the sub-group: **“THE STREET.” ** These are the characters directly involved with the criminal drug trade in Baltimore, “The Game,” in other words. If you feel a character may be missing, check the other polls as they have likely been included with another subgroup.

======================================

Per the discussion of HBO’s “The Wire” in this thread, as well as the discussion in this threadregarding polling to find out who people’s favorite characters from the show are, here is the first poll of several that Zeldar and I will be posting in the near future.

The idea was to break the entire cast (over 300 people have appeared on the show) by sub-groups based on how they fit into the story. We then we narrowed those groups down a bit by cutting out characters that appeared in under 10 episodes.

Of course, there are many recognizable and unforgettable characters in that under-10 range (Brother Mouzone was only in seven episodes, for example) so we cherry picked the ones that we thought should be included in the poll. We were pretty liberal w/ the choices but if you feel we missed somebody, feel free to post your thoughts in the thread for the group that character belongs to.

We will be allowing EIGHT (8) votes per person for this poll. Once we find the favorites from each group, we’ll create a master poll to determine the final results.

Characters will only be included in a single sub-group each, based on our best judgement as to which groups/storylines their character best fit into.

Lastly, in case your memory is fuzzy (I know mine was when we started working on this) here is a Wiki pagethat will help refresh your memory on who somebody is.

Here are the characters that will be voted on in this poll. Please note that the character’s name appears first, followed by the actor’s name and the number of episodes they appeared in.

We’re 7/8 in sync. No doubt we’d fare even better with more votes to spread around.

Well, if Omar had been in this one I’d have voted for him eight times. So I had to think a lot.

Really, really hard. By far the hardest of these polls. But one vote I had to get in was for the relatively minor role of Kenard. That was about as chilling a portrayal as I’ve ever seen - the hardened child soldier par excellence.

Lots of love for Bodie, which I agree with but am surprised by.

For the longest time, I thought The Wire would end with Bodie on top of the Streets.

I hate to be That Guy, but this poll is incomplete without Omar.

I know that you’ve already found the Omar thread, but in case someone else reads this and wonders about Omar - Here is a link to the Omar poll.

I think that being at the top of the poll, and appearing in so many episodes, really helped him out here.

Or maybe it was his fabulous do-rags.

And his fabulous expectoration skillz.

We used to call that technique “skeeting” so "skeet skillz?

God, just looking at those names makes me want to watch the entire series again.

Netflix… queued!

Obviously, Bubbles is in a different category…

There was something about Bodie’s personality that I enjoyed…he actually had some perspective on the events going on aound him.

Y’all need to show some more respect for Slim Charles, by the way. That sentimental motherfucka just cost us money!

Here is a complete list with links to all eight of the sub-group polls, in case someone is looking for them. I’ll be posting this in each of the threads, but not all at once. I don’t want to clutter up the forum w/ all of our Wire threads worse than it already is.

You’re a soldier Bodie.

Hell yeah.

I think this was awesome. “What’s your name man. Bony? Biddy?” “You know my name.” “yeah”

I’m a big fan of Slim Charles. Not only was he a character i liked, but that voice of his is awesome.

One of my favorite scenes in the whole of The Wire was in season 3, when Slim Charles dresses down the two Barksdale soldiers for taking a shot at Omar on a Sunday morning.

“On a Sunday mornin’, y’all try to hit a nigga when he takin’ 'is wrinkled ass grandmas to pray?!?”

I also loved that he knocked off Cheese at the end of Season 5, in retaliation for Cheese giving up Prop Joe to Marlo.

And he was always so calm and self-controlled. He’d get angry, but he wouldn’t get flustered.

I saw him as almost a father-figure to the corner boys. Maybe I’m projecting, but I think he cared about them, at least a little bit.

Yeah, that’s the scene I’m quoting up above.

BANG!
Old guy: Why’d you wanna do that for?
Slim Charles: That was for Prop Joe.
Old guy: That sentimental motherfucka just cost us money!

I thought Omar was the best character. He was awesome. For some reason he didn’t make the list.
