The Woodlawn Cemetery Tour

[highjack]
I really thought this was going to be a local connection for me… just my tough luck.

The main protestant cemetary in my current hometown is also called Woodlawn, and also runs tours. Their tours are a little different though - one weekend in September, local actors dress up in historical garb and portray the spirits of the local famous and infamous dead. It’s been going on for several years now, but I’ve only been to one.

It started in the Mausoleum with a woman portraying a local painter, and talking about Guelph at the turn of the century, and continued around the grounds with 6 or 7 stops. There was an uncle and nephew from one of the founding family’s that had been killed in a train wreck in Pennsylvania on the way to the World’s Fair, and a middle-aged brother and sister who’d drowned in Georgian Bay.

All in all, it was very cool and unusual, and a great way to spend a couple of hours for about 5 or 10 bucks a person.

And that’s what I thought you were talking about.

I think I will bump this once a week or so—I had tea with Grandfather Trout last week and he said he’d like to go, but hadn’t seen this thread . . .

You did (and he had a lovely time), and he still does, and now he has.

I’m in. I may even bring the Fabulous Boyfriend!

Hey! I’m in AND I live in Woodlawn! If people don’t mind taking a bus back to the 4 train, there’s plenty of nice places to eat on Katonah Avenue.

You live in the graveyard? Jeez, and I thought I was creepy . . .

We still going?

Weather permitting . . . Details are in this thread.
