Why did Robert Kraft go to a cheap strip mall massage parlor? They get off on it.
Exactly. Bill Cosby didn’t need to drug women to have sex. He just liked having sex with drugged women.
Someone once said, “You don’t pay a prostitute for sex, you pay them to leave afterwards.”
If some unlikely tragedy wiped out the Waleses and the Sussexes then Andrew simply wouldn’t be allowed to be King. Parliament can and has deposed monarchs. Some loophole would found. Beatrice could be made Princess Regent then assent in her father’s name to act depriving him of the Crown. It could even be made retroactive so that his brief reign would be expunged. Or Parliament could simply declare a republic and that would be that as long as the people and military dide with them.
The point is, he doesn’t. There are such things as groupies and social climbers who are attracted to fame and position, and Andrew likely had his share of those. (Recall he famously - and briefly - dated a porn star). However, there are also social climbers - Epstein is the classic example - who know what their target likes and will appreciate, and they supply it for the closeness to high society it provides… My guess is Andrew had to know that the girls were hired, not groupies or hangers on - but didn’t care beyond that. Whether he knew or could tell a 17yo from a 20yo - I guess that’s up to the courts if it comes to that.
She was an actress and photographer who had appeared some years previously in a mildly erotic art-house movie. That was enough for the UK tabloids to label her a “porn star”, but she wasn’t a porn star in any commonly-understood sense of the term. The relationship continued for about two years and reportedly broke up because of the pressure of media scrutiny when the “porn star” headlines started to appear.
At the time she put up with the headlines, but in later years she recovered libel damages from newspapers that continued to refer to her as a “porn star” and a “soft porn actress”.
She was almost in Star Wars too.
I guess Luke in a bucket hat and being called “Wormie” was too much for Lucas.
That is only part of the equation.
Back in my time, average guys looking for no strings attached sex could occationally find it.
Spending time learning who to look for helped. Better looking, more experienced or richer people had better odds, but despite the promised of pick up artists, no one is going to get someone 100% of the time.
Even the best looking, richest guy in the world would have to work at it at times and spoiled people don’t want to be bothered making the effort. Or, they enjoy the power over people. Or, other things. Not rich, not powerful or that good looking so I don’t know how they think.
There are also crazy people, and making it a transaction reduces that number. This is all on top of having them leave afterwards, although that’s overly rated. People who are that selfish aren’t worried about ghosting women.
My question-apologies if this was addressed upthread-is why now? QEII stripped him of his duties and some of his perks years ago and he’s been in disgrace and semi-retirement since. His brother becomes king and three years later strips him of his remaining titles and perks. Why now? Didn’t the UK consider this a closed issue? What’s changed? Is there something else that happened or is about to happen that the UK government knows about but we don’t? IOW, have they seen the Epstein files and are getting out in front of it? If so, if someone over there could leak them to the US public, that would be great, thanks!!
There was a whole feeding frenzy a few weeks ago because it came out that Andrew had been sending friendly emails to Epstein in 2011, even though he claimed in his disastrous 2019 TV interview that he had cut off the friendship in 2010.
Also, the memoirs of his victim Virginia Giuffre came out post mortem around the same time, which raised the pressure for King Charles to take further measures against Andrew.
And a Congressional committee was asking him to testify. The story won’t go away.
On the one hand, we should be saying “alleged victim”, since it hasn’t gone to court yet, and probably won’t ever.
On the other hand, we should be saying one of his victims, since he almost certainly had multiple.
There likely were crimes committed (sex with a minor) but proving it is probably difficult to impossible.
You’re technically right, and this is FQ, but personally I’m 100% convinced that she had been (one of his) victims.
The thing that I think about this, is that unlike Fortune 500 CEO’s or even the average senator or congressman, (ex)prince Andrew would be recognizable by a lot of teen-age girls, as would many movie stars. If he was that frequent a visitor seeking to enjoy the surf and turf, you’d think there would be a lot more accusations. According to the Florida police, they traced several dozen of Epstein’s teenage victims in West Palm Beach.
On the one hand, we should be saying “alleged victim”,
Why? We’re not a law court or public media.
To quote the late Norm MacDonald when discussing Oscar Pistorius murdering his girlfriend:
“Allegedly, but also, really.”
But I think Andrew would be very vulnerable to a charge under Sexual Offences Act 2003 s. 47.
The problem with that theory is Andrew’s meeting with Virginia Giuffre in London took place (is alleged to have taken place) in March 2001. While English law does permit ex post facto laws if Parliament specifically declares that intention, I don’t think the Sexual Offences Act 2003 does, making it irrelevant.
Good point. I’ll have to research the state of UK law in 2001 regarding offences involving trafficked and/or underage sex workers.
