The [you] Function

Wonder if the [you] function works on the SDMB?

Evidently not.

Unless it’s supposed to put the word “you” surrounded by brackets in the message, in which case it works perfectly.

No, it’s supposed to appear seamlessly as the name of the reader. It allows all manner of mischief, like “Attention America! [insert reader’s name here] gave me herpes, and dresses like a Bosnian peasant!”

It’s all the rage on some message boards.

Are you sure it’s not supposed to put the word “whoosh” between brackets, Krokodil?

I bet it’s also popular on boards where they let you edit and delete your posts and include images directly in the post. Boy are those boards fun, yes sirree…

I just wanna see… word[sub]3[/sub]

Okay, that works for subscripts. What about superscripts? word [sup]TM[/sup]

COOL! word [sup]googleplex[/sup]

For a while, when we were temporarily camped out at BBBoards during the “Winter of Our Missed Content” board outage, a similar function was active, to much mischief. It was promptly disabled.

It wouldn’t be the first time, but no. These are popping up a lot over at the yesand.com bulletin boards, and to see how they were done, I just hit “quote.”

[whoview] which will forever be known as [annoying tag]. Ugh!
