Excuse me, Mr. Cynical? A poster states that I am a “bigot” and a “horrible” person, and bases his conclusion on a false claim that I asserted that fat people shouldn’t be allowed to earn money.
And I’m the one in the wrong?!!
I tried to parse it out so that he wasn’t insulting me, but it didn’t work. He said if I had said X, I was a bigot. And he said that I had said X.

But I do agree with you that it is an reasonable justification for a Pit thread. It doesn’t matter whether you or me or WV_woman or Joe Shmoe would have bothered to start a thread about it. Sua didn’t do anything wrong in starting this thread.

Sua, did it ever occur to you that if you were less aggressive than other people would be too? dalmuti entered that thread like a lamb–the first in a hoard to defend a lawsuit that everyone else thought was nonsense or worse. You could have made your points just as thoroughly without coming on so strong.
And yes, that’s from one Pontiff to another

hawthorne, I didn’t read his comments and think “my God, my reputation on the boards is ruined.” If he had called me a moron or a subliterate, this thread would not have been started. But he called me a bigot. Call me that, and I react. If that is a weakness on my part, so be it.
Mandelstam, I have no problem with people being aggressive in response to my arguments. If you note, I responded to the (aggressive) arguments dalmuti made in the same post.
But that particular comment wasn’t aggressive. It was offensive.

SUA, those of us who know you know how much of a bigot and “horrible person” you are – or, in fact, are not. Reputation may be all we have around here, so I can see why you’d zealously guard yours, but remember that you earned it yourself, and a single dumbass comment cannot dent it, much less take it away. No, only you can do that yourself.
Does that apply to me, too? How many dumbass comments can I get away with before my reputation is dented? Is there an algorithm?
