There are about a bajillion Kia Souls on the road

My mom’s car is a shade of gray that I can only call “invisible”. Ford’s paint engineers somehow managed to find the exact center of the color gamut, the single color among all colors that is the least distinctive from all other colors. When I’m looking out for her car, the only part of it that even registers is the license plate, a 15-year-old design that isn’t seen much any more.

When I get a car, I’m going to specifically request the rarest color they have available, just so that I (and others I’m meeting) can identify it. Orange would do nicely.

I don’t really care for the Kia Soul itself, but I like that there are colorful cars on the road, I wish there were more. I’ve only ever bought used, so color is not really a priority or even much of an option at all. My current car is white, but I’ve never washed it, or any car I’ve ever owned for that matter, so it’s slowly becoming off-white on top, then sort of fading to brown/black down towards the ground. If it were intentional it might look cool, but it’s obviously just dirty.

There’s one around the corner from here that has a Soul Eater decal in the back window.

It’d be even better if they just put up the “Eater” part, and let the actual car lettering “Soul” stand in for the first part. Or – better still – if they got a vanity plate that read “EATER”

My soul is silver - I thought the green ugly.

It’s a car. It rolls. I can fit stuff in it. And, most importantly, it’s the easiest car to get in and out of that I’ve ever been in. Given that at the time I was shopping for cars I was literally folding myself up to try and fit in the other cars I was test-driving, that mattered.

The downside to the name of the car is that, as an atheist, I’ve long held the position that neither I nor anyone else has a soul. Nowadays, er…

Since I bumped another thread about Souls a couple weeks ago, I’ll drop it here.

Short story, I’m a big fan. I bought one a few years ago, then my wife and I replaced her car with one recently. I was leery of the styling at first, but once I sat in one I was sold. My lanky ass fits in just fine, thanks!

Mine is the darker green, wife’s is the…interesting Alien green. I wouldn’t drive that color, but SDGAF and it was a good deal

I’m sure the his-and-hers Souls in the driveway garner jokes from passers-by.

I tend to notice them, as well. And yes, especially the Alien Green. I’ve seen some in really great colors too, though. There’s a dark blue that’s awesome.

Good ideas! Actually, “Soul Eater” is a Japanese animated series (My son was heavily into anime at one time.) The sticker on the car was the series logo (in the “decal” link above.)

I don’t get the Alien Green Soul hatred. I’ve started researching cars for a purchase probably 6 months out, and that exact car is in my top 3. Of course I currently drive a pumpkin orange Honda Element, so the Soul is just a smaller version of the same car, in an equally wonderful bright color.

It’s all a matter of tastes (of chocolate).

I’m the sort of guy who always and only wears dark blue clothes with no logos, designs, and text on them whatsoever, so yeah - “wonderful bright color”? My eyes! They burn!

There can’t be any more of those than there are of the Hyundai Elantra. After getting my hair done on Saturday morning, valet parking gave me my key. After getting in “my” car, I was shocked that the key wouldn’t work. Turns out it was another Elantra of the same year and color as mine parked 20 feet away from my car. At Mariano’s a couple of weeks ago, I was miffed that my remote battery was dead. Turned out that I was trying to open the door of the wrong Elantra, again the same year and color as mine. LOL

Different vehicle, similar situation. My husband bought an HHR a couple of months ago, and now I see them everywhere!!!

And when we bought our Sonata 6 years ago, I started seeing them all over the place. Still do, tho rarely do I see the same blue we have.

They were fairly common for rentals a few years ago - when you asked for a Compact, the most common was the Ford Focus, followed by the Soul. I chose the Soul every time I had a choice between the two - much more roomy inside.

In the past couple of years, all my Compact rentals were Toyota iM or iA.

I agree, but you also highlighted the problem with unique colors. Everyone says “I want a unique color, but not this ugly color.”

The Chevy Spark and the Fiat 500 are also available in some nice colors. I was very tempted by a mint green Spark last time I shopped for a car.

Soul tail lights look like a couple of old telephone handsets when lit up at night. That amuses me a bit.

I too lament the lack of vibrant colors on cars these days. New car dealerships in the 50s-early 70s used to be spectra of bright colors. Now, they’re mostly black, white, silver and red. Chevy Sparks and Sonics do come in some nice greens, however.

Bear in mind re: paint colors that the neutral colors, like black and silver, are the remaining few color choices that manufacturers rarely charge extra for.

If you look carefully, you’ll see that many, many models of cars are sold with paint that costs extra. Sometimes a LOT more.

Some of the Kia sedans look an awful like BMWs on the front ends. I pride myself on being able to spot and identify Bimmer models/series and have been fooled more than once by a Kia.
