The original post was going to be a brief one about fonts. Then I started writing.
I am a project manager for a translation company and am on call for the weekend, we have an urgently requested translation about the coronavirus. I sent it out to 16 linguists, DTP is required. I am monitoring emails, other team members are handling this job, and I saw an email from one saying they were missing the font. My wonderful colleague Mariana, in Argentina, where half of our staff works, sent it to them
Anyway, this is one of the few times in my career where I feel like I am doing something worthwhile . Almost all of our clients are in health care and every now and then I have to remind myself that this is important. I used to work, for 15 years, as a project manager for a company whose clients were almost always financial firms, translating annual reports and financial disclosures for “millionaires and billionaires.”
I don’t begrudge millionaires and billionaires, let me be clear about that. I think they should be heavily taxed at a certain level, but I am wandering off the point a bit.
What my company and my colleagues are doing now may actually save a few lives.
