There is a war going on over there

I’m fascinated by the current events. American soldiers riding into battle on horseback. Trash left behind by retreating taliban includes a terrorist handbook. How to conquer 2/3 of a country the size of Texas in 1 week. The still defiant part of the enemy is probably going to fight to the death.Omar,is probably going to surrender.Atef is dead.
Geeze so much going on.

And my wife and daughter just turned off the news and are watching Bicentennial man again

I asked them how the war is going and my daughter said “WAR?”
My wife said “I don’t know you’ve been watching it all day.”

I don’t understand.

I guess some of us need to turn it OFF every so often. I can only take so much before I start getting depressed and cranky about the news, and start muttering darkly about how sucky the world is.

There is a difference between "turning it OFF every so often " and just not watching it.
They have both chosen just not to watch it.I know they don’t get their information anywhere else.

They are both keeping busy. My daughter with school,8th grade, and basketball practice,4H and babysitting.
My wife with work and college courses.

I wonder how common this is.

Until a couple days ago, I hadn’t even seen a TV in a week and a half. I didn’t know about the plane crash in Queens until 2 days after the fact. TWO DAYS! I have to keep up with the news. I don’t like how I feel when I don’t know what’s going on, especially in light of the events of this fall.

I don’t know that many people who knowingly avoid the news and the reality of what’s going on right now. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, I just really hope it’s not too common.
