My buddy told me yesterday that there was a whale in the Santa Barbara harbor. I remembered this today as I was having lunch so I walked over to Stern’s Wharf. On the way I saw what looked a spout. Indeed, there is a gray whale in the harbor hanging out around the mouth. Damn, it’s pretty windy and cold or else I’d go out in my kayak and have a closer look. I kind of feel bad for the guy because of all the kayakers trying to get a look. They say he looks pretty skinny. Here’s an Santa Barbara Independent article.
My mom had a Northern Right Whale appear off her beachfront condo balcony the other day, just beyond the breakers she says. I would have sped over there in a heartbeat if I didn’t have to work.
I’d beware the kayak thing if I were you and the creature in question was an Endangered Species (Greys got taken off IIRC about a decade ago, but point still stands). Harrassment, be it perceived or actual, can be a federal crime.
It might be the weather girl from our local news station; I’m pretty sure she’s migratory.
It’s apparently a grey and I just heard today that there might be two of them.
Yup, that’s her alright.
Interesting. The local PBS station here said there was one in San Diego Bay today too.
It’s an invasion!
Now, don’t go spouting rumors. It’s probably just a fluke.
snerk!
Oh, go blow it up your hole.
