There's no diversity like liberal diversity

Link

I’m speechless. Absolutely speechless.

This is what passes for higher education now? Jesus fuck! Why don’t thy just rename their stupid school the Ministry of Truth. The football team could be the Orwells (or the Smiths. Actually, either one is better than the chicken that is their current mascot). Why is it that the people who aways scream loudest for diversity never seem to know what it means?

The title of your OP is accurate. Few liberals think this way, just as few conservatives are real actual Fascists.

More here. I’ve not read this comprehensively to get a grip on who is right, but have no dog in this fight.

Barack Obama, who is of European descent, is racist. Necessarily. Interesting.
These people are loonies.

To be fair, the quote in the OP is not from an official University of Delware publication, but from a handout given by hired speaker Dr. Shakti Butler, an “inspirational facilitator” from Oakland, CA.

Not that she’s not a total nutjob, but it’s a bit disingenuous to claim this is from official materials distributed by the University for the purpose to indoctrinating the students. Exposing students to nutjobs is a bit different than officially promoting nutjob points of view themselves.

And the link in the OP stopped working for me, so here’s a direct one.

Is it just me? The link, it goes nowhere…

Dave’s link ,that is.

ETA" Never mind.

EETA: New link don’t work.

And, hence, from her definition, a racist.

In the spirit of the OP–there is no disingenuity like conservative disingenuity!

It seems more like a statement to discuss than a statement of the university’s intent. Since I’m sure plenty of people come to college thinking like this, it might be a good idea to get a discussion going.

This reminds of an incident we had in a hotel where I worked. One of the banquet rooms was being used for a racial sensitivity seminar. When the (black, high-school aged) houseman came in to clean up, he saw a whiteboard that said:

He stopped me in the hall and said, “What the fuck is this?”

I’ve heard this “all white people are racist” bullshit before. (And “all men are [potential] rapists” from rabid feminists - well, duh, all women are potential murderers, child molesters, etc.)

No interest in getting involved in your partisanship, but allowing total idiots to speak about what the fuck they like in an academic context is part of the great tradition of free speech, no?

Except that she was hired by UD to train “staff and Whole New World facilitators”. Link to UD website. In light of that, I would think that the university does bear responsibility for the garbage she spouted, and a it could reasonably be inferred that her training does represent the position of the university itself.

I for one am sick of people who take a few egregious examples of misdeeds from one group and choose to apply it to an entire extended group. We can all agree that’s wrong, right?

Fine, except for your dig at liberals. I’m sure that many conservatives’ ideal of diversity is negroes in white jackets serving drinks, but you don’t see me calling all conservatives racist assholes.

Kill The Pigs!

Yes, we never see thread titles or posts on this board that are blanket statements about Republicans or Conservatives based upon the actions or statements of just one or a few people, do we? Face it, this kind of PC garbage is liberalism run amok. I don’t recall seeing any posts from you castigating, say, Der Tries for his inaccurate and prejudiced depiction of anyone against abortion as someone who hates women. Since conservatives as a whole are often held responsible on the boards for the misdeeds of a few extremists, since Republicans are frequently branded with the idiotic rhetoric of the religious right, I have no problem laying this one square in the lap of liberals. This, right here, is where your philosophy leads if it is not leavened with a good dose of common sense. Deal with it.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. -Gandhi

IOW: “I know this is an irresponsible overgeneralization about liberals, just as bad as the irresponsible overgeneralizations about conservatives generated by some prejudiced leftists, but I’m just going to go with it anyway as an act of retaliation.”

Yes, that’s a useful contribution to the fair and reasoned debate you claim to wish for, all right.

I also note that if you look at more of the quotations from the “facilitator’s” materials cited at the above link, you will notice that their position is considerably more balanced than the OP is claiming:

That is, this “diversity training” stuff (for which I hold no brief in general, btw) is not actually claiming that nonwhite people can’t be prejudiced, hostile, discriminatory towards members of other races, etc.

Rather, it’s essentially just using “racism” to refer to a social phenomenon rather than an individual psychological one.

Fuck you! How do you know Dr. Shakti Butler doesn’t vote Republican huh, how do you know that? Answer me that.

Face it…nawwww, too easy.

Der Trish has to be once of the most castigated posters on this board, liberal or not.

Are you trying to whoosh us? Claiming that a few posters comments makes it okay to tar liberals with the charge of claiming that a few persons misdeed makes it okay to tar all white people? The mind boggles.
