I have regular Medicare. I also have Medicaid. I don’t know if that makes a difference.
I’m also supposed to be getting $100 from Hochul; I think everybody who filed taxes in NYState gets that ($200 for couples); it’s supposed to be to help with inflation-affected bills. So I suppose you could say I’m getting bribed in both directions. I haven’t seen that yet either.
We haven’t received our bribery checks yet, but My Beloved and I agree that half will be going to the Democrats, and the other half to Tina Kotek’s campaign…both in the name of Donald Trump.
I awoke to the news that the goon squad raided Ilhan Omar’s home this morning. I sent the $90 I didn’t get from the Medicare slush fund (not eligible) to her campaign.
Though I doubt that $90 makes all that much difference to people at the top of that range; though in some cases it could make a lot of difference to people who don’t reach the bottom of that range.
Mods, feel free to close if this is a repeat I didn’t notice.
As for me and spouse, our combined $180 goes to Troy in Maine, because Susan Collins is among the worst hypocritical Trump enablers I am aware of. A fucking shoelace elected would send an important message about the value of actual, y’know, INTEGRITY, in politics. I hate Susan Collins in an above-average way because she of all people should have known better.
We discussed sending it to James Talarico (my first choice), but spouse (who follows these things better than I do) says, “nah … he has gobs of cash already.”
Anyway, where does YOUR bribery pay-off go, if you got one?
I think ‘teelabrown’ on this site started a similar thread. If I were old enough and in the right segment, I would put the $90 to a higher insurance premium for next year; that’s all hypothetical as I’m only 50. I heard the feds were originally drawing to bridge each person on a higher premium, or however the economists might put it.
In other words … keep the money and spend on your fungible expenses. A perfectly reasonable response. But for those of us for whom it isn’t hypothetical - we actually saw the money show up - I’d like to know if you will hold on to it for your expected costs (which is cool) or if you plan to donate it, how?
Mine arrived in the mailbox today. My wife asked if I were going to cash it (feeling that I might not accept anything that originated with Trump) and I said, “heck yeah, and promptly donate it to the Mary Peltola campaign.” (local Democrat with a good chance of unseating the Republican senator)
It’d be tempting to use my $90 to buy a bulb of the coveted Amorphophallus titanum, whose sinister bloom emits foul-smelling gas, in keeping with the Briber-in-Chief.
Same. I live in a deep-water-blue state, so I googled up ‘where in the US would my donation have the most impact’, read a bit about the choices, and sent mine there.
