Not having the employer model is not the same thing as single payer.
No matter how you try to spin it, your post “He never said he’d try for a single-payer system during the campaign.” is a LIE. He DID say his was trying for it, even if it took longer than his administration. Why do you keep saying otherwise?

I hardly think that the difference between “single payer” and “choice and competition” is as small as you seem to think.
DOn’t you get, a public option will be so efficiently run by the government that it will wipe out the private insurers, who are clearly not as efficient. And we don’t want that because the government is extremely inefficient and the market is very efficient.

Obama doesn’t want public health care as an option, he wants it as a mandate for everybody.

We should listen to the President. He’s wiser than we, and has surrounded himself with all sorts of advisors from all sorts of political persuasions. He listens. And then he decides. Do what he says. He is our greatest president of the modern era. (And yes, I do mean it, goddamit.)

That’s not what I mean, and you (should) know it. I’m saying we should USE our brains. Having done so, we will give him a chance to do what he thinks is best. There is nothing wrong with having a leader. I’m not saying let him get away with murder if he wanted to. I’m saying that he has the wisdom, the leadership, and the courage to get the job done if we would just get the hell out of his way and let him do it.
So, we need to think, but then let him decide for us. We need to act, but then get out of his way so he can do what he wants.
He’s just a dude. He’s a smart dude, and I have a lot of respect for him. But he’s still a person. No one is wise enough for what you want.
