What songs were you surprised to learn were sung by a particular artist?
I was surprised to learn today that Amy Winehouse sang “Rehab.” To tell you the truth I had assumed it was some black girl group from the '60s - what can I say, I didn’t pay that much attention to the lyrics when I heard it before and didn’t even know the title of it. I had just assumed she was saying “They said I should go to Ahab.” And I didn’t really know all that much about Amy Winehouse, other than she appeared to have massive drug issues.
There’s also a song on “The Sopranos” soundtrack called “Thru and Thru,” that I would have sworn was sung by Bruce Springsteen, which would make sense seeing the New Jersey connection. But, nope. It’s the Rolling Stones.
I remembered “I dig rock and roll music” as being by the Mamas and the Papas:
Of course, it’s by Peter, Paul, and Mary. It’s actually an attack on the Mamas and the Papas, as well as various other popular rock groups. Peter, Paul, and Mary do such a perfect imitation of the Mamas and the Papas early in the song that it’s easy to mistake them for the Mamas and the Papas.
