It’s not that Palin is stupid, it’s just that she is not smart. I have never heard her say anything insightful or original. Taxes are bad, let’s cut them. OK, forever? Does the fact that we have lower tax rates than under Reagan enter in to the equation? What specific Federal spending are we going to cut? Should the Federal govt continue to spend $1.84 in Alaska for every dollar in tax revenue it collects? Drill, baby drill. OK, how much would that affect US oil imports? Would it cover 90%, 50%, 5%…
It’s like she has conservative Tourette’s syndrome.
You could have had a better conversation with my son when he was 10 years old.
Palin's Former Ally Calls More Lies to Rogue | HuffPost Latest News Palin is a low class woman who should not be taken seriously. She bitches in her book about a "left wing conspiracy’ that chased her out of office in Alaska. Except the players are long time republicans. Andree McLeod who she calls " falafel lady’ , she is Armenian decent, is a staunch republican who ran as a republican for the Alaskan House. She called Palin’s spending and that of course makes whatever she said is a "witch hunt’. Yet almost everyone involved in trying to clean up Palin’s administration are republicans. Apparently she referred to Obama’s Inaugural Ball as the "Watermelon Ball’. She is a petty little brat and she should be ignored.
Of course the SDMB (or certain vocal particpants therein) would do that.
But they haven’t done that here. If the comparison is Palin and Gore, then the simple truth is that Palin’s lies have been exaggerated and false accusations of lying have been leveled against her and used to suggest she is stupid, corrupt, unreliable and evil — BUT it’s also true that apart from the phony accusations, she has told actual lies. Provable, non-factual statements that have happened far too often to be innocent errors, especially since they uniformly favor her.
Gore has exaggerated the science to make his point, and has mangled some basic science facts, no question. But I don’t see from him a large set of proveable, non-factual statements that uniformly favor him. I’m willing to be educated on the point, but from where I sit, it’s simply not fair to lump them together or suggest that all misstatements from Gore are equivalent to all misstatements from Palin.
Obviously I’m not a fan of Gore. And I spent a good forty-five minutes on that stupid list from Andrew Sullivan, and found roughly half his attributed lies to Palin to be suspect. But… I found the other half to be pretty well founded. So yes, she gets a raft of shit – but she’s earned at least half of it.
I would think it is fairly obvious that they have. Al Gore has put himself forward as an expert on environmental issues and alternative energy. At least one of his assertions is flatly wrong, and several others are unsubstantiated. Therefore, would you not agree that the conclusions he pushes are suspect?
Come on - Sarah Palin gets ripped to shreds because her state is next door to Russia and she said so. Al Gore claims to be an expert on Wisconsin dairy farming because he spent the night on one once.
The MSM will minimize, ignore and deny misstatements and lies by Democrats that they will publicize and promote for Republicans. You said yourself that at least half the time the AP accused Palin of lies were bogus.
You are verging on the fallacy of selective perception.
WhenObama or Biden make a blunder, the commentators leap in to correct him. When Palin makes a blunder, the commentators leap in to condemn her.
I am sure the MSM would dearly love for you to rely for your impression of politicians on them - because for the last thirty some years, negative coverage of Republican Presidential candidates has always been greater than negative coverage of Democrats, no matter what.
The dialog runs, figuratively, like this:
MSM: Sarah Palin is stupid and dishonest. Here are some examples.
Everyone else: Okay - how about Joe Biden? He is the other VP candidate.
MSM: Sarah Palin is stupid and dishonest. Here are some more examples (half of which we made up).
Everyone else: Wait a minute - what about Joe Biden?
MSM: Here are some more examples. Palin’s stupidity and dishonestly make it clear that she is not qualified - she has no foreign policy experience.
Everyone else: Does Obama?
MSM: Did we mention how stupid and dishonest Sarah Palin is?
No, you don’t understand because you’re stupid. Sarah Palin is a car-wreck. She’s everything the 21st century conservative loves. Ignorant, arrogant and evangelical.
Shodan, you understand, of course, that using the phrase “mainstream media” automatically marks you as one of the idiots, right?
Anyway, “Al Gore claimed to invent the internet” has been more widely reported, laughed about and discussed than any poltical blunder. Guess Gore must have been a Republican back then or something.
SHODAN have you no shame? Palin responded to the question about what were her foreign policy credentials, and she mentioned from an island in Alaska you could actually see Russia. She was not just giving trivia or a geography lesson. It was a stupid remark and you can not dance around it.
I have reviewed the page in your link, and I believe most of them do not amount to lies, much less serious lies. For example, the very first item criticizes Gore for being unable to come up with the word “mammogram.” Another item takes him to task for saying, “He is proposing to privatize a big part of Social Security and he’s proposing to take $1 trillion, a million billion dollars out of the Social Security trust fund and give it as a tax incentive to young workers.” His lie? That a trillion is one thousand million, not one million billion. This is undeniably true, but it’s not an example of a lie.
Rather than simply providing a link, why don’t you quote two or three of the examples from your link that you believe best illustrate serious lies.
