"They think it's all over...it is now!"

Hi, soccer liking Dopers,

I was reading about the death of Kenneth Wolstenholme in the current Four Four Two today, particularly about his famous play-by-play of Geoff Hurst’s final goal.

I’ve searched here and Googled several different ways, but was unable to find some kind of audio file that I could play off the Internet to listen to this particular sound clip. (I live on the other side of the Atlantic, and have not heard it hundreds of times.) :frowning: But…it did beat doing my work!

If some kind Doper could point me to an appropriate link, I would appreciate it… Thanks.

It’s sampled on ‘World in Motion’ by New Order, circa 1990. That might be more interesting than the olde commentary and it’s sure to be somewhere online in MP3 format. Besides, it’s, IMHO, the best football/World Cup/sports diity ever:
“Loves got the world in motion
And I know what we can do
Loves got the world in motion
And I can’t believe its true…”
…just don’t mention penalty shootouts…

The British TV show “They think it’s all over” uses it in the theme tune, which you can download from http://www.geocities.com/tvthemes2/t.htm

Thanks!

(BTW, the Canadian equivalent for this is Foster Hewitt’s play-by-play of Paul Henderson’s final goal in the Canada-Russia hockey series in 1972. It’s sometimes used for other things too…a current TV ad for Canada’s magazine publishers’ council, urging Canadians to read Canadian magazines and not US substitutes dubs it over footage of elephants playing soccer! )
