They're chopping my grandma's leg off today

Yesterday, the doctors made a decision to amputate my grandma’s leg. So they’re doing it today - talk about fast.

My grandma has cancer. Don’t ask me what kind, because nobody knows. No one in Australia has ever seen anything like it before. She’s getting written up in all sorts of papers. All the blood and bone marrow tests say that the cancer is systemic. But all the tumours are in her right leg. That leg is so ulcerated and tumour riddled that they have decided to remove it - partly because it’s getting infected, partly because it is so unbearably painful.

Yesterday, they decided to amputate as quickly as possible. They had wanted to give her a chemotherapy holiday before they operated so she would be in a better position to heal after surgery. But she has an infection somewhere in her body and they can’t find it. They’re taking the risk that the infection is in the leg and removing it will help fight the infection. Because of the infection, she’s last on the theatre list for today.

She lives interstate, so I can’t be there with my grandpa - I’m visiting next week. I just hope next week isn’t too late.

I’m scared for her.

My thoughts are with you Robinc and my best hopes are for your Grandma.
Visit as often as you can, and be sure to tell her you love her ( I know you do because of your post.)

Your Grandma needs love & support. Give her some.

And if you need to vent, e-mail me.
