Things I (we?) should buy in the MMP

Morning all. Bladder was working overtime last night, up 3 times and nearly full each visit, so hopefully pretty well drained by now. Have acquired the Sunday NY TImes and some Thomas’ muffins, so have broken fast and have puzzles for working during dinner at Longhorn’s. Will be going early as this is Mother’s Day (HI MOMS) so I expect it will be busier than usual. 58F when I woke up but 65F now and heading to 82F later. Not much planned, may get to the gym later but that depends on if I can work up the energy to get ready. Otherwise a day of sloth.

Mollie, glad you had some face time with your peers.

VanGo, had my roof done at around 20 years, so probably wouldn’t hurt if you can swing it.

Shoe, working in a restaurant enviornment such wounds are commonplace (as you probably well know). Still have a visible scar on my right palm from trying to separate two frozen steaks with a butcher knife… But Viaduct?? And the word ‘yeah’ can convey so many meanings/emotions, it is a most useful four letters…

Happy Vergering swampy.

boo fae, dog-fussing is one of the greatest parts of life IMHO and I always try to pay my respects (after asking the owner, of course).

FCM, sorry about Ziva, I know you’ll make here final time here as happy as possible. Enjoy the 3-hour tour…

Taters, confusion is common in old folks suffering some sort of dementia as is asking the same thng over and over (I know you know that but I went through it with my Dad and can sympatize). And yeah, over $50 here for gas and I had a $1.60/gallon discount. Glad I have a hybrid now. And I thought Zeus was going somewhere else?

Ad onward into the day (and my Bladder is sending up warning signals again, dagnabbit..

We only have fur-babies, but Happy Mothers Day to those who have skin-puppies.

My son is still trying to make it work. It’s been seven days since B took him home. It takes dogs a while to adjust, especially if they’ve been shuffled around a lot. We’ll see what happens.

Just got back from the hospital, she must be feeling somewhat better because it was five solid minutes of griping as soon as I entered her room. She’ll be there another couple of days, at least. The early-morning and evening confusion is constant. The nurse talked about her care and appetite over the last couple of days. She was eating well yesterday and scarfed up breakfast while I was there. I once again showed her how to change the channels on the remote and which button was the call button for the nurse.

Anyway, getting ready to leave in a bit for my son’s place. I’m sure it’ll be an enjoyable time and I’m looking forward to it.

T’aint mother’s day this side of the pond, that was a few weeks back, which is probably why the ungrateful rats didn’t get me anything.

The height of excitement today was doing some laundry, putting it out on the line then bringing it back in cos it started raining. I also did a proper deep clean of the fridge, even though there was nothing visibly mouldy in there. I did debate going to the shops, but decided to make do with what I had in the house, plus a bunch of fresh picked herbs from the garden to add a touch of smugness. Some rhubarb and strawberry crumble is in the plan for later, as the rhubarb plant is attempting world domination and I found some frozen strawberries in the freezer- the strawberry season is imminent, so I may as well empty the space in order to fill it back up fresh.

Fast has been broken and early dinner prep has begun. Spike has asked me to make this monstrosity:

Mrs Magil thought it would be fun to try, and so I’m about to put the potatoes in the oven.

I am still so happy from last night. Is this how people normally feel?

After looking at all the possible causes and remedies for hip pain on the toobs, I settled for the simplest and least aggressive of them all: sleeping with a pillow between my legs to reduce the torque on the hips. I happen to have a pillow designed for just that thing that I picked up when I had knee surgery. Tried it last night and slept through without any pain waking me up! Hopefully, this will continue.

I had enough energy after a good night’s sleep to make cornmeal pancakes this morning, which were, as always, fantastic.

For excitement, I’ll do some laundry this afternoon.

Laundry does sound exciting! I’ll give it a go. Today holds very light housecleaning (like wiping kitty nose-boops off the windows), a writing contest entry, and an online writing from prompts activity with one of my groups, plus setting up the logistics for a Zoom author talk in Germany later this month. Looks like filtered sun out there, so I’ll try to go for a walk.

Thanks for the sympathy. I’m not in a lot of pain, but do want to be sure everything is healing correctly, and I’ve never had a hysterectomy before  so I don’t know what to expect. I’m having some very mild hot flashes, which is odd since I’ve been post-menopausal for years. I consider that it might mean my uterus or the cyst on one of my ovaries was still producing some estrogen, which in itself means the surgery was a Good Thing, as I had estrogen-receptive breast cancer. I’ll lt you know how my bone density is next time I get a DEXA.

The aforementioned housekeeping is deeper than usual because I have a friend staying here while my lovely wife takes a vacation with a friend. I can drive, lift the cats, prepare food, but it’s still good to have a person around to carry the trash out and open jars.

Taters, you don’t have to go every day. She’s going to complain no matter what. If she’s developing dementia, she may well forget you visited and complain to your sister or staff anyway. If there’s a whiteboard or bulletin board in her room, consider writing/tacking up a note each time you visit–“Sunday May 10. Happy Mother’s Day! It was good to see you! Love, :potato: :potato:

Happy mother’s day to all who need the good wishes!

I haven’t called mom yet, I’m going to get myself around a few hard ciders first. One of her pregnant granddaughter’s moved in with her two year old and I’m just not in the mood to listen to more of that drama.

I realized that I need to buy some button up shirts because my normal pullovers won’t work well after shoulder surgery, so that’s on my list for next week. I also realized I was late for my covid booster and got that done at Walgreens twenty minutes later.

I had to wait a few minutes after checking in and noticed that my medicare money could be spent on a battery operated water-pic that would fit on the bathroom sink. The taxpayers also bought me a new electric toothbrush. My old one is just fine, but my dentist keeps telling me that I need a round headed one, so thanks taxpayers!

Taters I’m sorry about all the fuss and drama with your mother. Be sure and start leaving cookies and carrot sticks at the nurses station, if she’s a trial to you, consider how they must be feeling.

Thanks also for the recommendation about the bird feeder pole. The one I have is also holding three plants because I gave up the tube feeders. Stoopid starlings. Now it has that firetail I showed pics of, two fushias and an umbrella covered hummingbird feeder. The flying jewels are pretty happy about it

I know that my pole wasn’t going to fall over though. The one I had last at our last place held that much weight and didn’t fall over or bend in 8 years, so I wasn’t worried about this one being wonky. Besides, it was cheap and the solid ones cost about 4 times as much.

Hubs has just turned into a real fussbucket over the yard since we moved which is super surprising to me.

In the past, I was the one who was calling the yard guy when I thought things were looking shaggy, Hubs just had trees and shrubs cut down behind my back because he hates anything that grows.

Now he’s out on his mower a couple of times a week and power washing our front porch every spring. My wonky garden pole bothered him every time he looked at it, I also had to LOL when I saw the bird poop on the fresh black paint.

Yeah, I should probably do that as well. Now that it’s fledgling season, the glass is getting a lot of boops.

I’m glad your recovery continues to go well.

Nellie, I’ve been thinking about you as well and hoping your pain levels go down soon. I’m glad you kids are able to help during your recovery, I know that just being with them is helping to keep your spirits up.

I’m so happy for you Mollie. Now is your time to shine and you are rocking it!

Well, its about an hour post-shot and I’m starting to feel feverish so I’d probably better call mom before I decide to go to bed and sleep the vax off. Weird that I’m feeling this one so much, the last four or five have really been nothing.

Have a great rest of the day everyone!

I also found Asiago cheese ciabatta rolls for toast and melty bacon bread cheese. So very yum!

Between the potato broccoli mash-up and the croissant loaf French toast, I think I’ve already my calorie goal for the week.

It was closer to 4 hours, but it was really nice out there. A tad chilly in the breeze, but a beautiful day anyway.

Before we left - ain’t she purdy??

We couldn’t have asked for a better day on the bay. The kids had fun taking the wheel and looking thru the binoculars and even sitting on the swim platform (when we were out of gear and at idle) and splashing their feet in the bay. When we got back, they sat on the platform again and Tobias fell in. He was, of course, wearing his life jacket, so he was just scared and upset about getting all wet. But they seemed to enjoy the day.

Dangling tootsies. You can barely see the top of Tobias next to Daughter, and Roxy’s head is right by FCD’s hand. Not sure why SIL was looking grumpy - he really was in good spirits today.

I spent most of the time on the helm, alone or helping the grands, so I had about the best view. There weren’t a whole lot of boats out, tho we did see one ship transiting southward.

Glad to be home, tho. All that sunshine and fresh air done wore me out!!! Tomorrow will be work-in-the-yard day.

I cleaned, dusted, and vacuumed. I cleaned spot’s box, took out the trash and recycling. Spot has alternated napping, and attacking sunbeams. There’s a chipmunk at the feeder

< adds to list >

Yep.

We’d like that, too. And yay for help.

When I took my car to the carwash for the first time down here, one of the interior people asked me what kind of dog I had, given the nose prints on both front seat windows.

Your shoulder wasn’t too bum to swim for the last few. That likely makes a difference.

Howdy Y’all! I survived two services this mornin’. I done good except I forgot to put a big Host in the paten and had to go in the Sacristy to get one just before Priest started with the Eucharist. I blame it on the candle lighters as I had to refill one of them with liquid parafin so that was an extra thing and threw me off track. OK, I didn’t look at the Verger checklist to make sure I did everything. An Acolyte that served this mornin’ finally got brave enough to have a go at ringin’ the bells durin’ Communion and did a great job. So proud of her. Now if I can just get the two other fraidy cats to get brave enough. The other Acolyte this mornin’ is gettin’ braver about lightin’ candles. She’ll do it if I am standin’ with her the whole time. Baby steps. We had a McLunch and the afternoon/evenin’ has been spent in high sloth.

VanGo ugh about the roof. Those dang things be 'spensive. We had what is I hope the last roof replacement of our lives about five years ago. Now that I have typed that out, no doubt a hurricane or tornado has perked up its ears and will head to da cave.

MOOOOOOM hope it was fun on the boat today. I see in a later post that it was indeed a good day.

{{{Taters}}} I know you must be frustrated with all that’s goin’ on right now. Maybe when she gets to the SNF your mom will settle down into some kind of routine and be a little more satisfied. Good to know your son is attemptin’ to give it a go with Zeus. Hope that all works out.

Mollie glad you took the clue by four to the haid. No doubt Mrs. Magill will be happy with the new bottle of perfume. Impressive tale of little Squeaky! Ummm… the N.O.T. thing ummm… it probably is good, but I wonder if it’s worth the work.

Cookie hope the hip pain remedy continues to work.

JtC I think I would drive your husband crazy if we were neighbors. I am not a yahd person. My goal is not to be the worst in da 'hood. Second worst I’m good with.

Dicey I am not a ‘rent, so must find other outlets for my naggin’. Hope it helped.

Very pretty.

FCM, a thing of beauty!

Hey, everybody might want to look at this thread: An important note about AIs and personal information

And evening all. Glad I went to Longhorn early, the Mom-day crowd was already forming up and by the time I left around noon there wasn’t a seat in the house. Did my gym thing and came home to replace most of the calories, but pretty much a slothful day at home. Have my Annual checkup on Tuesday, hopefully the Doc will confirm I am alive and more or less healthy.

Taters, get what enjoyment that you can, I’m afraid this is not the last time you will be be called on to look after Mom.

Nut, thanks for mentioning that, need to clean my refrigerator innards too, will add it to the list of things I mean to do…sometime…

Mollie, looks like an interesting meal, I’ll keep scrolling and see how it came out.

Cookie, happy you have a solution that’s easy, economical, and appears to work. Getting all three things is usually the difficult part…

lily, sounds like your work schedule hasn’t suffered for the operation. Glad you have a friend staying around, though.

JtC, guess Hubs doesn’t want the family talking about how he keeps the yard…

FCM, great pictures, great family outing. And the boat actually got used to do boat things!!

And while it’s only 8:30pm I was up at 6am so bedtime won’t be too much later. Catch y’all on the next MMP.

It was… okay. The cheese and broccoli soup was the best part. It probably needed another two garlic cloves and a teaspoon of salt.

I’m coming down from my day long high, but I’m still feeling positive.

I’m frightened, but still think I’ve got this.

I’m not a hugger, but wanted someone to hug me last night.
