In hockey news: Canes become the first team since the 1985 Edmonton Oilers to sweep 2 consecutive series.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Dawn (detergent) should do some advertising featuring the Oilers and the Ducks.
Especially since the Ducks overcame the oil.
Also:
Scott Wedgwood lets in 3 goals on 12 shots for the Av, gets replaced by McKenzie Blackwood.
Me: Avs pull wood out, put wood in.
Late night final time, haven’t done much since my last report except eat dinner, wish my brother a happy birthday, and pretty much internetted the evening away. Temperature is down to 64F so should be comfortable sleeping.
FCM, lovely pic, looking forward to Captain Tobias taking the helm tomorrrow…
You and me both. The back fence will need replacing next year I think, hopefully it’ll hold up the rest of this year.
And off to Slumberland I go. Catch y’all tomorrow.
I did it!
Mrs Magill took the boys to Costco - we have very little in the way of snacks for Spike the human vacuum cleaner - for dinner. “We got off cheap. Well not cheap - we were at Costco after all. Dinner was cheap.”
I stayed home, did my makeup[1], and changed clothes. It took a little longer than I expected, so I was fifteen minutes late. This time I had a pair of flats in the car for driving.
For the first time in my life, I met people like me. I am very happy right now. I’ll enjoy this feeling for a while, I think.
No pics, sorry.
My liner was perfect! ↩︎
Sorry to keep posting, but today has been so good that words cannot express how happy and positive I feel right now.
Must. Resist. Temptation. To. Spill. The beans. To. The. Boys. Before. The AP exam.
You go Mollie!!
I got a quote to replace the roof on my garage, which really needs it, and on the house, which doesn’t really, but I’ve been here for 20 years, so it might soon. A bit of ouch, but I think doable, with help from my folks.
You got Otis to clean the boat? Nice training!
When I lived in Dallas, there was a store that I sometimes went out of my way to “Ooops, tee hee!” magically pass by, and I mean, who doesn’t need random spice mixes.
The smell right when you walk in is, like you said, heaven.
I snerked.
You’ve earned this happiness.
Work was …well, let me put it this way. S.M. sent me to the corner store for smokes, early-ish in the evening, and two people there were like, “You gonna be busy tonight, your boss gonna NEED them smokes.”
Why? Two local high schools were having prom night tonight.
The clerk, and the random dude buying lotto tickets, were absolutely correct, and I’d like to anonymously send a virtual thank you to them for the heads up. May karma bless both of you.
Also while cleaning a fryer, I ever-so-BRIEFLY brushed against one of the heating elements. Just the teensiest owie. But S.M. caught me holding a bag of … some random shit from the freezer … and bless her for immediately going into Mama Bear mode. I assured her that if I’d really burned myself, I would 1a.) be whining, and 2b.) be slathering the BurnJel we have by the break table.
… still stings a bit, though. Coulda been way worse, but dammitalltohell burns hurt even when they’re piddly nothingburgers.
In happier work news - and just in time for Mother’s Day - we have a temporary unofficial mascot.
A mama duck - probably a mallard - decided that the roughly square foot between our building (right by the front door!) and a trash can was the ideal spot to raise a family. She is sitting on a nest, though since we don’t wanna disturb her no pics are currently forthcoming.
I brought birdseed & cracked corn in for her, and S.M. brought her water in one of the steel restaurant bins (her description of gently nudging it all over to her while trying not to startle Momma Duck was so cute) so we’re watching over her as best we can.
Oh, yeah, forgot one more lil vignette from Saturday’s WTF marathon:
Shoe: “Ack that’s a mosquito.”
Shoe makes accurate slap against wall.
Shoe: “Correction. That WAS a mosquito.”
Shoe washes hands triumphantly.
I need to correct, by store I simply meant a Penzey’s location. I blame Monkey (and his incessant need for treats when I finally reemerge from work) for my terrible posting.
My tired butt is going to bed now. I gotta open → close tomorrow, and we’re gonna be slammed for M’s Day. And I should probably carve out a few minutes to call mine.
“Quack!” ![]()
Oh, wait, one more!!!
S.M. sent me to the window (“they have a cute lil girl!”) and the customers indeed did. She was a rambunctious but sweet tiny girl babbling at me.
They also had a toddler boy doing his best chimpanzee impression, sorta between back & front seats, although he was being relatively polite.
I said, “Oh, you have quite the entourage!” and both parents, without looking at each other, in absolutely perfect unison, sighed, “Yeah.”
To understand, whisper the word … yeah … now look defeated & exhausted.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 82 and partly cloudy. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Verger duty, so must do the nine and ten-thirty services. OYKW hinted last night that he might not go today. Guess he’ll decide for real once he awakens. I foresee some kind of McLunch for today’s main need to feed. I also foresee an afternoon/evenin’ of RDOS sloth.
Mollie glad the meetin’ went so well and that you got to present. Yay for perfect eyeliner!
doggio my inner ten year old boy is gigglin’ over what you posted.
JtC I must check out Bread Cheese next time I go to Aldi’s.
shoe awww about the duck! Hope she hatches the young’uns successfully. No doubt she will have plenty of food and water.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Jumpin’ back in to wish a happy Mother’s Day to all the moms of creatures human, furry, scaly and otherwise!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning, and afternoon sloth are on the agenda. Spot is in the sunroom watching his shows. It’s 58 degrees Ferret Height(14.444 Centipedes) outside.
Yay!
I miss being able to sniff the spices.
Pizza Duck!
I actually caught a housefly with my hands once. Everybody is class was impressed.
I celebrate, because I get called “mother” a lot. ![]()
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/52f with a predicted high of 14c/56f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “This is the perfect day for a fucking Brony convention. Just fucking because.”
Very glad to hear it, although I am sorry that it’s more painful than you were expecting. It’s good to know that your kids are there to look after you and make sure Sir Charles gets an appropriate level of fuss!
It’s a kind of gothic horror-themed café-bar. If you google images of Merlin’s Café (Birmingham), you’ll see what I mean. I had hoped the website would have a gallery of interior photos but they haven’t.
She is a keeper, I am so happy you have so much support from her. Also, Chloé is adorable!
I am sorry that recovery is slow and that’s getting you down a bit. I hope you feel better today, and setting yourself a schedule gives you things to look forward to.
No mechanical bull, but I know somewhere in my home town that has one! I’m sure the bartender was not quite on the planet, that’s for sure. No taxidermied stuff as far as I could tell, but at the top of the stairs, there’s a corpse on a table with its guts all over the place.
That’s not weird, that’s cruel and inhumane! I’m glad your friend could ask you for help, and hope everyone’s feeling brighter today.
He has something on his phone that tells him when the front door alarm sensor is triggered. It told him that he came in at 3.31am. By 3.31pm on Saturday, he was putting coins in the jukebox at the Posada ![]()
Hold on to that feeling, and bask in it. You’ve worked hard for that moment, and you should get to enjoy every second!
Yesterday was a fun day
I got home from the gym and a quick supermarket visit, waited for 'im indoors to surface and have at least one cup of tea before we decided on our plans for the rest of the day. We had a late lunch at home, then headed into town and went to the Posada for a pint. There were two very cute doggies in there, one belongs to the landlord’s g/f, the other belongs to a friend of theirs so there was much dog-fussing. We popped across the road to the Lych Gate afterwards, and then decided to go home via the Clarendon Hotel. I had suggested the Clarendon as 'im indoors went past on the way to his gym and told me they’d got a board outside advertising a new Indian/Nepalese curry menu.
We weren’t planning to eat there, just to have a look at the new menu. Went through the door and were hit by the delicious smell of fresh curries. That sealed the deal…we stayed and had some fantastic food there. Then we went home via the pizza shop as that will be today’s lunch. We were back home before midnight, the cats got extra food and treats to compensate for our absence, and all was well in the house.
No plans for today, I was up before him so I had a nice soak in the bath as I’m aching a bit from the gym yesterday. Other than that, I’ve got no real plans for the day so I will make like a sloth and give the sofa some serious attention.
Pffffft - right!
I wish I could get him to put his chew toys back in is toy bin. Why he needs all of them all over the living room at once is beyond me!
There were paw prints and bits of litter in our shower - Ziva goes in there and I think she gets lost. Poor baby is truly on the downslope of her days. I give her treats and she eats maybe half of them before losing the rest - is her sense of smell going too? I’m guessing the only way she knows that anyone is near her is by vibrations from footsteps. She’ll be 18 in a month… if she makes it. I hate this…
I should make a list of the stuff we’re not supposed to forget today for our boating excursion. It’s a non-meal trip - just snacks and drinks because I don’t want to deal with food aboard. There are a couple of lounge chairs that need to go - they’ve been living in my studio while boat work was underway. And I was making lots of ice last evening - I hate the thought of having to buy it.
Oh, and there was an interesting accident at the marina on Thursday. They’ve got a mobile crane that they use when a sailboat needs its mast installed or removed. Well, as it was moving in the boatyard, it somehow fell over and the boom crashed thru two small utility buildings. (I’m pretty sure the boom isn’t supposed to be extended when it’s driven.) No one was hurt and somehow they were able to get the crane righted, but I’m guessing corporate isn’t too happy. Less than a year ago, the travelift got off track a bit and broke thru a section of the wooden ramp. And now this. Here’s hoping there’s not a third incident.
We’re promised sun and 80s today (after starting at 54 Ferrets) so it should be a loverly day on the water. Must remember sunscreen and a hat. We’ll see if I get some good photos to share.
Happy Sunday and Happy Day to all the mothers among us!
Mornin’ all and Happy Mother’s Day to mothers and those who are in a motherly role.
Lily, I’m sorry the healing isn’t progressing as you wish.
VanGo, sorry about the roof news; having just had a new one installed last summer, I know how much it hurts.
Mollie, I’m glad yesterday was so good. I hope you continue to bask in those good feelings.
Nellie, I hope the pain has diminished.
Yesterday, I drove to the German deli, picked up some German magazines for my mother, along with two freshly baked pretzels for my husband and I, and then drove to the hospital. I spent an hour and a half visiting with my mother, repeating myself every thirty seconds, and told her that since I had to be in Olympia this morning that I wouldn’t be coming by today.
Last night, she called, all in a panic, and begged me to come out to the hospital again last night. No one but me is visiting her…ugh…it’s all on me to keep her entertained, apparently. She was going on and on about a surgery today; she had surgery last Tuesday. I understand she’s lonely, bored, and probably worried about what’s happening with her.
However, she sounded much stronger yesterday, and her arm looked better, too.
So now, I have to drive out there this morning, drive back home, pick up the dogs and my husband, and then drive south to Olympia to spend the day with my son. I spent 87 bucks (with a 60-cent discount!) on 15 gallons of gas yesterday.
I tried explaining to my mother that I can’t come out every single day, and she came back with “My house is not that far from you”, so once again, she was unsure where she was. When I told her that we were not at her house, she flinched and then said, “I know I’m in the hospital, I’m not that far gone”. The trip to the hospital is a 30-mile round trip, plus I have to stop by her house on the way home, which is out of the way, and that adds miles, too.
I know I’m bitching and moaning, but that’s what she does; she runs stuff into the ground until you become resentful. I’m trying not to become resentful, but I’ve been out there every day since she was hospitalized, and it’s not a life-or-death situation.
On the way home, I stopped at Lowe’s and Home Depot, hoping to find some plants, and although I bought some, they were not what I was looking for. Once home, I watered everything, pulled up some baby weeds, and transplanted a few things. After that, I cleaned up the kitchen, and then did some dusting.
I was hoping to run to the fancy nursery this morning, but now that plan is shot to hell. We need to be in Olympia around 11:00 a.m., and since I have to run out to the hospital today, I don’t have time.
The thing is, once my sister returns, she and her husband plan to drive to California to drop off some stuff at his brother’s place, then make it a longish trip, too. So, this crap with my mother won’t end anytime soon. I have to dog-sit Zeus the 18th through the 21st, so I don’t know what will happen with my mom. Hopefully, they can put of their trip a little. I can’t leave Zeus unattended for long whiles because he become destructive. He’s getting slightly better, but it’s going to take awhile.
Zeus now has puzzle/treat toys, and he seems to enjoy those. He hates the crate, so he can’t be crated. Crate training will take a while, too.
Alright, I need to get going. You all take care.
Good morning and happy Mothers’ day!
Fang managed to talk his mother into allowing his brothers to stay up late and play a multi-player game last night. It was part of her strategy to allow me to slip into the house unnoticed. The unfortunate side effect is that they are too worn out for church or wishing their mother a happy Mothers’ Day.
It’s possible they were hungry while they were at Costco last night. We now have two loaves of croissant bread, one of which I’ll turn into French toast in a little bit, using the extra eggs they bought last night. Pro-tip: Never go to Costco hungry.
I still need to wrap her presents, which I’ll do in a bit. I found a little wooden woman and her puppy-dog figurine and a bottle of her favorite perfume. Yes, it’s a little cliched, but I felt the clue by four smack me upside the head a couple of weeks ago when she mentioned that her current bottle was running low, if anyone was still wondering what a good Mothers’ Day gift would be.
I am still running high from last night. Thank you all for giving me the encouragement to get out.
Crap - I’m tearing up.
FCM - Have a fun boat day.
Shoe - I hope you can recover from last night.
When Squeaky was little, my parents took him to a McDonald’s. There was a fly buzzing them, and Squeaky did the equivalent of a 360° no-scope, and smacked the fly with his hand, looked at his grandparents, and said, “I am awesome!” His Grandma was grossed out, but his Granddaddy was suitably impressed. My Father still talks about it.
Taters - You’ve got this with your mother. It’s hard, but I’m sure she appreciates you, even if she never says it. Just know we’ve got your back.
May I ask the subject? Also, get crackin’ on your studies!
… also, good luck!
Thanks.
Project Management, but just as an associate. Which means I should understand all the terminology and concepts, but have very little experience. I did the training just before Christmas, and should have been refreshing my studies since then, but…
Howzzat?

Went for a walk, because it’s going to rain all next week, so last chance for a while. Made sweet & sour chicken for lunch and hubby made lattes. He got out the ultrasonic cleaner and cleaned all our eyeglasses and my engagement ring, so everything’s all sparkly.
And I told my self at 16:00 I’ll go study. I’ll be zooming with my mom (and dad) at a bit before 18:00, so I might have some braincells left.
Happy Mother’s Day to those who celebrate.
When I lived in Dallas, there was a store that I sometimes went out of my way to “Ooops, tee hee!” magically pass by, and I mean, who doesn’t need random spice mixes.
The smell right when you walk in is, like you said, heaven.
I get the same rush when I hit the bulk spices at the Indian grocery. So many good smells / flavors!
{{{Moooooom and Ziva}}}
Happy Mother’s day to all of the Mumper mamas!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Supper is in the crock and the rest of the day will be RDOS.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
