(Old) Digging things up in the MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and cloudy. Weather app says “You may feel like fucking walking around your yard naked. Your elderly neighbour, however, wishes you fucking wouldn’t.”

Spring is on the horizon, gardening begins in earnest soon…and on the subject of digging things up, today marks the death in 1939 of Howard Carter, the British archaeologist who found King Tutankhamun’s tomb.

What are you digging up today?

Mornin’.
Apparently it’s 11oC here and sunny.
Looks like it.
Nothing planned today, so I’ll just veg out.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 45 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 76 and sunny. A definite Spring like day. Also looks like the annual tree orgy is beginnin’ in earnest. No biggie plans for the day which suits me just fine. Sup will be meatballs ‘n gravy, smashed N.O.T., green beans, squishes and rolls. I feel the need for so e down home comestibles.

BooFae I am not a garden or plant person, so the only thing I dig is rock ‘ roll music.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Today is (dammit, it better be!!) the last frosty, miserable day of winter. We’re starting with 29 Ferrets (-1.7 Centipedes) with a forecast high of 36 Ferrets (2.2 Centipedes) and chance of rain/snow/icky precip later today and overnight. No real accumulation expected, and by Thursday, we’re looking at 73 Ferrets (22.8 Centipedes), unless things change.

My plan for today is a trip to the Mart of Wal, then Aldi. I’ll need to do some digging soon. Otis had been using the plantings outside the shop as his bed - my liriope are crushed. So I’m going to dig them up and move them to a bed outside the back yard. We’ll also have to do a lot of un-digging to fill all the holes in the yard. Then we need to figure out how to stop Otis from digging all the craters. Idiot dog. Not sure when any of that will happen, tho.

I will try to hack back some of the wisteria before it leafs out. The nekkid branches and tendrils are easier to deal with. Maybe when it’s warmer later this week. I think my little chainsaw will be a great help.

From the last MMP:

OMG, yeah. And they all say “Download free schedule” but you have to sign up for the program before you get the “free” chart. Nope. They’re not getting my email or money.

Are you using videos or working from memory? There are so many choices on YouTube and I’m not sure how to proceed, since I don’t have a “free schedule” - I haven’t found sequential lessons yet. But I need to do something about my balance before I take a bad fall.

And so my day/week/month begins. What adventures lie ahead??

Happy Moanday!

Good morning, Mumpers! My phone says it’s 20 ferrets outside, rising later to 42, maybe.

I tried chai tea, but it didn’t help my balance. I’m going to Rock Steady Boxing later today, which also promises to help balance.

Right now, I need more coffee, and breakfast.

It’s a cold, rainy Monday. Appropriate.

This week is shaping up to be utterly prosaic. Going to work, going home, going to bed, rinse and repeat. Next week is spring break. So I have that to look forward to.

Big thing in my life now is trying to figure out a new car, and what to replace my Fit with.

On to the morning ablutions.

for some reason i got to watching aquarium videos on youtube this weekend. i did have a beta every now and then. now i have a hankering for a beta. the difficult thing is finding a way to keep koritza away from it. she can get anywhere. perhaps i’ll just do plants and snails in a small vessel.

no snow or work from home day today. back in the office.

The biggest thing I’ll be digging up is my kids’ enthusiasm for the eclipse. It’s a school night (or will be when the eclipse starts) and these two, both in their mid teens, have somehow gotten stodgy and practical on me. Really! When did my own kids turn into old farts?

Even if my kids won’t miss an hour’s sleep or get up briefly to see a blood-red moon, I’m going to be bundlng up (It’s currently minus 4 degrees F. here) and marveling at this ultra-cool phenomenon.

The New York Time says: “Moongazers in North and Central America, as well as the western coast of South America, will be able to see the lunar eclipse early Tuesday morning. It will also be visible from East Asia and Australia on Tuesday evening.” Here’s a gift link.

I hope the MMP is an OK place for something that doesn’t happen till Monday evening.

Good morning!

It’s 34F and clear outside, and today promises to look and feel springlike with sunny skies and a daytime high of 59F.

JtC, I, too, would like to learn how to diaper a raven. How cool would it be to have such a raven as a daily visitor? I miss my daily crows, as well as all the other birds that would visit daily. It got to the point where some of the chestnut-backed chickadees would jump into my hands to eat. And, while the birds still frequent my yard to flit amongst the plants and seedheads during all seasons, it’s not like it was. The crows and stellar jays used to peck on my slider or line up on the fence and let me know if I was late with the peanuts.

I didn’t do anything but be an RDOS yesterday, so today I need to get busy. I need to bust out the blower and get all the fir tree needles off my back patio, front porch, and driveway. The rain is supposed to return starting tomorrow evening (I think), so I should take advantage of this little window. I could probably mow the back lawn, too. Well, what remains of it. The dog-free zone is growing, but the area the dogs have is patchy, at best. Can’t be helped.

I’m itchy to get outside and start gardening, but on the other hand, it’s also a lot of work, and with the projects I have lined up for the front, it’s going to be hard. My husband doesn’t help with any of that because he thinks that I enjoy all that hard labor. And, while I don’t mind transplanting or putting plants in the ground, digging up twenty-plus-year-old shrubs is incredibly hard work, and I could use some help. He would help some if I asked, but he’s not in good shape. I need to find a company that will dig this stuff up for me without charging me a fortune. I can take care of widening beds and planting stuff, but tearing out the old stuff is really hard.

I suppose I should finish my coffee and get to it. Please take care of yourselves.

I dig a pony.

Sunny and going up to 44F which I will believe when I see it. Going to the ortho PA about my ankle which has been hurting for about 8 weeks. No bruising, no swelling, no accidents. Probably the usual old age arthritis diagnosis.

Good morning. It was 48ºF and very slightly drizzling this morning. Chloé and I had a very special guest on our walk this morning. Mrs Magill decided she needs to start walking again, too. It was amusing. I went into the laundry room to let Chloé out of her crate and into her harness and light-up vest, all the while getting her excited to go for a walk. Lots of “Are you ready to walk? Do you want to walk? Let’s go walk!” Followed by a “I’ve got a surprise for you.” We round the corner to the front hall, and here *Mrs Magill is. You could hear the dog’s thoughts:

Oh my GOD!!! It’s Primary Human!!! Primary Human is going to walk with us!!! This is the best day of my life!!! (Looks back at me.) Look!!! It’s Primary Human!!! Why aren’t you as excited? What’s the matter with you?
I handled her leash and Mrs Magill walked in front so (for once) the first mile was not a drag. Tomorrow morning, we’ll get up a little earlier to (hopefully) see the eclipse. I like walking with her. Maybe I should get as excited a Chloé, but I draw the line at licking her face and accidentally (?) sticking my tongue up her nose.

@JaneDoe42 I’ve got a couple of lentil soup/stew recipes that use the instant pot. I’ll try to dig them out for you.

Good Moanday morning all. Slept in until about 7:30am and have installed the TurboTax on my computer, so that will be my main activity for the day, so I guess digging up all my W2 and 1099-R documents need to be done. Will leave after finishing this message for the usual Monday shop-n-sammich run, then come back and get down to the tax thing, Turbo Tax says it should take about 2 hours…we’ll see.

Weather is good, 63F heading to 75F and a 1-in-6 chance of rain, so I like those odds.

And seeing what the rest of crew is up to today…

FCM, hope March will come in like a lamb and stay that way.

Knots, hope the stuff you got helps with the exercises.

Pavo, now you know what the life of retired folk is like…at least for the lazy ones like me…what kind of car are you looking for, may I ask?

Nyvaak, kids probably watch so much Science Fiction (or are awash in so much technology), that the wonders of nature may seem ‘boring’ to them. In respect to Isaac Newton and astronomers everywhere I’ll try to see the eclipse.

Taters, never been much of a gardener, hope you can find the help you require.

Wet one, hope the sore ankle is treatable.

Maus, lovely interpretation of dog-speak. Gave me a grin to start the day with.

And time to dress for being among the populace and get my Jersey Mike’s #8 today. Have a good one all.

Oh, it goes on all week.

I get that from Nelson when I harness him up too. Nothing like a dog’s tongue up your nose as a wake up.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I need to pay rent today, then call DPS (Texas’ version of the DMV) to see what I need to bring to change my driver’s license. Other than that, RDOS.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I don’t know. That’s part of the problem. Probably something in the Honda/Toyota/Subaru diaspora. Not too big, but room for luggage. So far I’ve been narrowing my search to 2022 and newer.

The problem with buying Hondas is that they last a long time, so I don’t have very much practice in car shopping.

The thing I hate about loading on Mondays is that the being doing the Saturday load’s loading style is best described as “Hovitos Death Temple Architect”. But I made it work, even if half the cars were jammed full(56 boxes of water bottles for 1 person?. I did my Aldi run($43) and filled up Carmen(3.5 gallons, $10.00, so the Apocalypse pricing hasn’t hit yet). I’m having a bowl of oatmeal(apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar) and a bagel(everything with veggie cream cheese), then hitting the hay.

So you’re saying it’s Mummy’s Day?

The MMP is for 24 hour Mundane-ness. And welcome!

Up to 35F at 1107 and it may hit 50 this week. Plant life will start waking up soon and we’ll be looking at finding a tomato plant starter. Spring is when we miss our Portland home the most, especially when the peonies started blooming.

Exercise included some isometrics with towels. I almost had the wife talked into starting up again, but she backed out. She’ll turn 80 this year, which is hard for both of us to cope with. She still looks at least ten years younger, but the lack of exercise has to be taking a toll. I notice that her balance is poor and she tends to shuffle when walking, both danger signs.

Egg sandwiches this morning and small fruit yogurt cup. I found out that I can get those on Amazon for half the price we pay at the local market. I’ll have to figure out what to do with that extra $.50. Woo-hoo!

As long as you’re not asking for money to underwrite dodgy behavior, anything goes in the MMP and any time for any reason. It’s not like there’s any order of discipline here. And, frankly, if the dodgy behavior is good for a laugh, some of us might contribute…

I can highly recommend Hyundai products. The Sonata may be a bit bigger than you want, but the Elantra is quite nice. In fact, were I inclined to replace my Sonata, I’d be looking at Elantras. You can trust me - I wouldn’t lie to you! I’ve racked up over 223K miles on my 2012, taking it to my car guy every 5K for oil changes and whatever. There have been a few other repairs (too lazy to check my records) but never anything that had me wanting to dump the car. My goal is 250K or more. If I live that long.

I dunno - one of our local station’s price of regular jumped 15¢/gallon since yesterday. And it was nowhere near $2.30 to begin with.

Anyway, back from erranding. I even got my hair cut because I hated how it was looking. Now it’s shorter and layered better. Plus the stylist told me about color gel - I’d like to try a non-normal color for my hair, but I’m a coward. She said this stuff washes out, so I may get some and give it a go.

BIL just called - I manage his medical bill payments and he wanted to let me know he just got a bill. Then he was telling me all about the cat he adopted. His case worker arranged with the apartment to permit him a therapy animal, and he got the so-far nameless cat a couple of weeks ago. He said she’s about 2 years old and pretty skittish so far, which isn’t too surprising. I think it’ll do him a world of good to have something other than fish to interact with (well, apart from his case workers.) And I can tell he’s lonely - he wanted to talk and talk. Anyway, glad he’s got a kitteh.

The afternoon is stretching out ahead of me - what to do, what to do?? I guess I’ll figure something out.

I do too, very much.

batteries from the hearing aid?

Well, taxes are done for another year. Unlike last year I’ll get some cash back from the US Government and the State of Ali-bama refunds all the tax money they collect from me since I don’t have to pay tax on my Government Retirement so I don’t make enough to cause it to kick in. So about $800 should be coming my way in the next month or so.

Pavo, don’t know if you have a CarMax dealer near you, if so you might want to check them out, they have quite a variety and in my experience (selling my 2017 Dodge), they seem to be straightforward with you without the smarmy pressure tactics you can get at used car dealerships (IMHO). And based on my first several months, I can also recommend Hyundai products as FCM does.

Cookie, hope wife does decide to exercise, even a little bit will help, it’s done wonders with me.

FCM, hope the feline and the BIL hit it off, might be just what he needs.

And now I need to go digging in my dresser and get the workout clothes in the gym bag, have consumed around 1500 calories today so far so need to work some of them off.
