At 10am gas was 3.04 per gallon. At 12:45 gas was 3.49 per gallon. I filled up at 10 am….
The ankle needs an MRI. OH JOY. I had 5 MRIs in 2025. I do not want to even approach that number in 2026. PA is concerned that the pain has been going on 8 weeks and is over the bone. Plus there is fluid. I am to wear one of my many ankle braces and ice until the MRI results.
I’ve accepted a conditional offer to be a Rural Route Associate at the Bellingham Post Office. I was already starting the onboarding process in Blaine, but the supervisor said I would probably get more hours in Bellingham.
My sister sent some texts yesterday, and I told her that tomorrow is my last day in my 19-year position. She reminded me that ‘Uncle Red’ had been a mailman. I don’t know if he was my mom’s brother, if Aunt Rachel/Rachel was my mom’s sister, or if they were my uncle and aunt [something] removed. I don’t remember his given name, so I can’t really find anything. I just remember they lived in Orange County, and that I have a cousin whose name might be Kenny. (Or not.)
In other news, I picked up a beef Polska kielbasa the other day. I had the second 25% of it today. I made it the way they did at the San Diego Navy Sailing Club when I was a kid: Score the sausage most of the way through, about one inch apart. Turn the sausage over, and score it the same way between the scores. Fry in some oil. A slice of Sara Lee Delightful Multi-Grain bread, spread with Best Foods mayonnaise served as the bun, and I chopped up some red onion to go in it. (SDNSC used chopped white onions.)
Happy Moanday y’all. I was somewhat productive at work, I 3d printed some more nose hair, they came out looking a bit too much like sperm, so they go in the trash, I’ll do some more tomorrow. The program we have to use do to 3d printing and I don’t get along. I simply don’t think the way the developers did.
Ever see the TV show Cheers? Cliffy was the resident mailman.
Good evening everyone, I hope you had good days. It seems most of you were busy…
I didn’t go the the capital today. The spirit was willing but the flesh was weak. I just cannot take that much walking and standing anymore I did hear that everything has stayed very calm so far, but its just going dark now and cowards like to hide behind darkness and masks. The theory now is that while they are more than willing to shoot into a crowd, they aren’t as willing to be shot at, especially by ignorant hillbillies who look like they are used to blood.
I also needed to clean blood out of our newish (I opened the box in December) sheets.
Hubs never listened to me when I nagged about sun protection and is now paying for it. He keeps getting bits and pieces cut off and rubbing creams on his head. The cream has caused two small sores to become big ones and they seep constantly. The cream is also greasy so he can’t use bandaids. I tried using gauze to wrap around his head, but they slip off during the night.
Usually he throws the top sheet and blankets off during the night so he only bleeds on his pillow case, last night he got the top sheet as well. I’m planning on replacing his pillows when this is all over, but I want the sheets to stay nice so peroxide and cool water it is.
Between the time I pulled the sheets off the bed and went to the closet for new one, both cats were occupying the bed. My back hurt too much to mess with them so I put the pile of sheets on the bed and walked away. When I came back they were both curled up on the sheets. Jerks.
We did do some errands today. Our new medicare plans sent us some pre-paid card for OTC medical stuff, but it must be spent in the same quarter it was issued or it will go away. I made a list of the vitamins and supplements we take and we went to Walgreens and spent almost all of our money. I still have ten bucks on my card, I’ll need to try to remember to use the rest by the end of the month, but we were done shopping and I wasn’t going to go back and finish it off today.
Congratulations! I hope you love it and they love you. Be sure to start drinking lots of milk, LOL!
Braces and an impending MRI, your joy must be overwhelming! When its your ankle can you just stick you leg in with your head out of the tube? If so, that is a bright spot in a bunch of ick.
WV doesn’t tax my retirement either. They make you pay your vehicle taxes separately and to a different entity than where you get your registration updated so we still get to mess with them anyhow.
This probably won’t be that helpful, but Tai Chi friend recorded one of her lessons for me. I already know the moves but I need verbal cues so I don’t rush. I’ll try to figure out how to get it here if you want, but it is an audio recording and no instruction.
Well darn. Maybe tell her that you need her there to spot you? I hope she doesn’t start falling.
I would appreciate it, thank you. We had lintel soup today and it could have used a little more zing.
I’m glad you had a good walk. I’ll look at the sky in the morning, but between the mountains and the clouds, I don’t expect much.
Can you find a handyman in your area? I’ve had good luck finding that sort of worker on Nextdoor.
I used to like doing the heavy gardening work as well, but that’s behind me now.
I will confess to much jealousy over their relationship. When I see one of them, all I have to do is look around to find the other. I’ve noticed that Raven is looking decidedly stout, but Harry says he’s just fluffy because of the cold. Harry says his cats are just fluffy too and I’ve had my hands on them often enough to know better.
I’m so sad that you had to give up feeding the birds, not only is your neighbor a jerk, he’s not helping the cats at all. Grrrr.
Well darn, you can’t call for emotional support from your furry overlords when you are in the office.
Did they not brew it strong enough? That blast of caffeine straightens my spine wonderfully.
My dad worked outside a lot over the course of his life. His bald head now resembles a golf ball with all of the divots from having bits removed. Has Hubs tried a satin do cap to sleep in?
Congrats!
If / when you would like to try more, let me know. You may want to check out some Indian recipes. They tend to be vegetarian and have plenty of zing.
I checked out the requirements to change my DL from Tennessee to Texas and it looks like I’ll have to bring a whole stack of documentation. They also want my Texas vehicle registration. I’m still tagged in Tennessee and will be until June. I’m going to tell them that I don’t have one, but am shopping and need a license to test drive.
I pulled some chicken cassoulet from the freezer for supper. That stuff is good right after it’s cooked, but wonderful after being refrigerated or frozen. I’ll devfinitely do that one again.
What’s a few white lies between spouses? Falling off chairs is a thing, yanno?
Recipe please. It looks like red meat is off the menu for good (not that I really mind), but chicken is still acceptable (no rice, potatoes or noodles. sigh). Lintel recipes will also be appreciated, I’ll be in the learning and experimenting stage for a while.
While I do like Indian food, he’s not as big of a fan. He will choose it over seafood if those are his only choices but I cook to make other people happy so Indian cuisine will probably not be something I will explore.
Changing my DL from AZ to WV was a bit of an ordeal as well. Folks told me that I had done good by only having to go back twice, natives often have to go back at least three times even if they are still living in the house they were born in. Bureaucracy never goes away, they just add extra layers as needed.
He has not. Some of us are not as clever as others, I’m going to go and suggest it right now. He thinks that’s a very good idea, he has a couple he wears under his helmet to protect the liner. Thank you so much for the awesome idea.
I fully expect Hubs to look like that shortly. I only managed to get him to give up his mesh covered baseball caps 15 years ago. “cloth ones are too hot!”
Knowing that the war would start Friday after the stock market closed, I made sure both of our cars were topped off Friday afternoon and insisted Hubs top off his bike. This morning I noticed that gas was 80 cents a gallon higher than it was Friday afternoon. This isn’t the first time in my life that a republician president invaded the middle east, I knew what to expect.
Harry learned his lesson about listening to me though. He needed to get his heating oil price locked in for the year but thought he had time so didn’t do it when I told him he’d best do it last week. He said he thought he had had a stroke when he looked at his account this morning because none of the numbers made sense. He gave me three parsnips as an apology for doubting my word.
Howdy Y’all! As predicted we have been RDOS sloths all day. The big effort was haulin’ the neighbor’s and our biiiiig trash cans all the way back up the driveway after trash pickup. Well, sup required prep so I guess that was also effort. Sup was nummy and there are leftovers for tomorrow. If I awaken in time I will look at the blood moon. However it may be too cloudy when it happens.
FlyBoy conga rats on the new gig! Any idea when you’ll start?
Oh, crap, heating oil. Dammit. We’ve probably got enough to get us thru the next few months. Dare I hope sanity returns before I need to refill the tank next fall…?
My late BIL’s widow is ultra right wing, which is somewhat surprising as she’s an immigrant. Then again, she’s white and European so what does she care? Anyway, I think I’ll put her on ignore on FB after some idiotic posts in response to my perfectly sensible comments. I knew BIL was hateful, but I didn’t think she was as bad. Glad she lives so very far from me.
The snow didn’t come down very long and I expect tonight’s rain to wash it all away. Guess we’ll see in the morning. What I don’t think we’ll see is the eclipse. Stoopid clouds.
JtC - I was just curious if you were using any YouTube videos. There are so many. I think I found a channel that will work. If I send you a link, would you mind checking it out sometime and share any thoughts?
Speaking of, I think I should pick out the next one to try.
Evening all. Have exercised and then come home to add back most of the calories I sweated off. Did manage to lose a couple of pounds despite the amount of food I consumed Sunday, my weight (201.8lbs) is the same as it was on New Years, so doing pretty good discipline-wise. Agreed to handle setting up a couple of divisions for the Spring soccer season, the only problem about being an all-volunteer league is that the majority lets those few dedicated volunteers do it all…I’m helping out a lady who have FIVE separate age groups to manage by taking on the U7 and U8 Boys for her. So next couple of week may be busier than planned…
Doubt I’ll get to see the eclipse, been cloudy all day and is likely to remain so through the night. We’ll see if my bladder will get me up around 5am or not to check.
wet one, haven’t watched the gas prices here, but will look around more tomorrow. Hope the MRI is worth the hassle; I’ve had two in the past couple of years and have no great wish to get any more.
FCM, thought you folks were done with snow for the season…guess not. Although I see it is very short-term.
Flyboy, might not be the job you really want, but it’s something and you can build from it. Best wishes.
VanGo, yeah, nose hairs looking like sperm could lead to some awkward questions…
flyboy, used to watch Cheers, but with you on Seinfeld and the other one.
JtC, too borrow from our British brethern, bloody hell on the sheets and pillowcases. And the cats simply assumed you were providing them some further comfortable resting spots, as minions are supposed to do…
Coppertone, planned outage for the water or something wrong?
And need to take some time to review the soccer stuff (looks like 65 players in the U7 Boys and 79 in the U8 boys, with a couple days left to register, so sounds like fun…
They do it kinda weird here, once you have locked in a price for the year, you get everything you need for that price no matter what it actually costs other buyers. Apparently “betting” on heating oil costs is a bragging thing. The one who bought it cheapest gets to brag to the others.
We don’t use heating oil, our house is only 40 years old and has electric heat. I do wish we could lock in our yearly cost for that as well.
Want a lazy cooking tip? Most soup, chili and stew recipes call for chopped carrots, celery and onions to be sauteed for the base. If you (well, me) chops up two celery stalks and weighs them, then writes the weight down, then does the same for the two carrots and one onion, you will know how much the whole thing weighs uncooked. Next, saute it and weight it again. Write all of the weights down and write down what each is. (yes I have screwed up all of those steps at one time or the other.)
So now that you know all of that, next time you go shopping, pull out your food processor and chop up all all of the veggies, weigh the end produce so you know what you have, saute it, split it up in meal sized portions and freeze them.
You really will save a lot of time and money doing it this way.
I would be happy to, but think that you need to find something that you like and will keep doing. Oh, saw the link and will check them out in the morning. It’s always good to switch things up a little, helps keep the brain plastic.
One of the moves I do is to stand on one foot with the other knee lifted with the opposite arm lifted as well. Slow count of five, then switch feet. This is really hard for me to do in the middle of a room, but not so hard if I do it in my very small bathroom. I think that’s a mental thing, if I fall in the middle of the room I will struggle to get up (but I can do it unaided), if I fall against the wall I won’t hit the floor.
So, I shared that to say that you don’t have to follow the vids or instructors exactly, do what is comfortable for you and just do it at least every other day.
You are touching the future, thanks so much for doing this. Today’s kids need all the social and touch grass time they can get.
Unless you go with poultry smoked sausage, there’s red meat in this, but here you go. It’s delicious.
When the truck driver caps came out, my dad was given one. He wore it a couple of times and went back to the ones with no hole where the adjustment strap is. He had a burn through that. He loves it when us kids get him a nice, traditional ball or engineer cap that fits (easy for me, since what fits my head with hair fits his bald head).
@ janeDoe42 , this is a wonderful lentil stew. I use soy chorizo (funny story, the first time Sis saw this in the store, she thought damn, they sure are proud of their product, calling it I am chorizo) because it is good and not as greasy. Another one that I like is this one. I have a whole bunch more if you decide that lentils work for you.
