Things of which you did not realize you were a fan

Over in the Game Room, I’m participating in a thread on 4e D&D. I know a fair amount about it, but I hadn’t realized that I’d become a fan willing to defend the game until after I was halfway through my first post in the thread.

I surprised myself, I guess.

(note - D&D talk should go over in the other thread, I’m posting here in MPSIMS to talk about the odd feeling of discovering your own fandom, regardless of topic)

Leonardo DiCaprio…goes like this -

Me: God, I hate Leonardo DiCaprio.
Me: Well he was pretty good in Basketball Diaries…and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape…and Gangs of New York…and CRAP! He is a good actor.

Johnny Cash. I mean who’da thunk it?

Firefly- The first thing I thought was…Cowboys in space?..Christ.

I was never a Buffy fan although I really didn’t give it much of a chance. A friend of mine had the boxed set of Firefly and insisted I watch it, so I ended up watching the first episode on a Saturday morning and liked it well enough so I watched the next and the next…

I ended up watching them all twice on the same weekend. Then I watched Serenity the following weekend. Good stuff.

Alison Krauss. I had never heard of her until a friend went her concert and raved about it. I listened to a couple samples on iTunes and felt she was too twangy/country/blue-grassy for my tastes. Then on a whim a couple weeks ago I downloaded a live double album of hers, and now she’s my new favorite artist. Absolutely beautiful voice, and some really nice songs. A couple that are too twangy, but generally I’m a fan.

The Beatles. I knew they were pretty good. I heard they were now available on iTunes. So I figure I’ll download some of their songs, the ones I really like. Well, I ended up downloading about 90 songs!

Back when I was a kid, boxers. I always wore briefs. Boxers seemed too loose, or something. I didn’t really have a rational reason, but once I switched over I never looked back.
