I love myself some ambiguity when I see it
LOL I see the ambiguity now that you mention it.
People who do not drive the speed limit under normal weather conditions.
I came back to say, I do not have road rage, it’s just damn frustrating .
We have posters here that have claimed they have never, ever driven as much as 1MPH over the speed limit, and anyone who does should get a richly deserved ticket.
Of course that claim is impossible.
I feel like I have mentioned this numerous times in other threads, but I will mention it again as it drives me crazy. Please don’t pronounce Italian as Eye-talian.
Or Iraq as Eye-rack. That conjures up a weird image.
And I’ve noticed some people from your side of the water think there’s a tennis competition at some place called Wimbleton.
Why do all touch screens in the wild have to suck so bad?
Apple nailed it in 2007 when they released the original iPhone…that was 17 years ago.
So when I go up to the coffee machine at work or a kiosk at Micky D’s, why do I have to thump on the buttons three times before the dumb thing registers my button presses?
I get that they will use cheap technology, but this is not new tech–even the cheap touch screens ought to be pretty darned good nowadays.
WAG: If the iPhone screen had lots of random strangers thumping on it all the time, it would get dirty and wouldn’t work all that well either.
My new pixel 9 screen isn’t as sensitive as the old pixel 5 it replaced. And don’t get me started about how bad the new fingerprint sensor is compared to the old one.
Pedestrians who don’t pay attention to cars and signals when crossing streets. Many seem to blithely step off the curb without looking or acknowledging/being acknowledged by drivers, often not using the crosswalk just a few yards away. Some seem to be making a big deal of avoiding eye contact with drivers so they don’t have to pay attention. Also, and this will create a Doper storm, pickup truck drivers who back into spaces in urban parking spots. I know all their arguments, but it is an etiquette question–don 't make people wait for you, ask them to let you out instead–not a “safety” question. In fact, pristine pickup trucks in urban areas without “Bob’s Masonry” or whatever signs on the side bug me. And people with deployed umbrellas who seem unconscious of the extra space they take up. Hey, the thread says “things that infuriate you well beyond their actual importance,” which I read as “things that irrationally and unaccountably and perhaps incorrectly set me off.” Thanks for listening, doc, same time next week?
I’ve remarked on this previously:
I won’t say it infuriates me, but it surely baffles me.
Not a chance. The touch screens just suck. The coffee maker at work is probably a $10k device, with all kinds of fancy-schmancy coffee options, and it is almost brand new. But the UI is still flaky.
And the kiosks at McD’s are essentially giant iPads, with a gloss surface, that are cleaned regularly. There is no chance that this is caused by smudges.
Totally agree!
I live in a fairly urban area and it is not unusual to see people walking across four lanes of traffic after dark with no concern for their life, just casually looking the other way. Wow!
Oh yeah, seeing guys in all black, with a black hoodie covering most of their face and disabling their peripheral vision, with their eyes focused on the phone - just walking across the middle of street at night. But of course, all car vs pedestrian accidents are the fault of the drivers.
Why pick-ups, specifically? Do you not see other cars doing this, or do other cars doing this not bother you for some reason?
Cars do it much less in the parking lots I habituate, though perhaps this is confirmation bias. Pickup trucks tend to be slower to park, because it is a tight squeeze. Also, pickup trucks are the devil’s right hand as the basic family “we take the kids to soccer and get groceries and twice a year maybe grab some 2x4s” vehicle in big cities. Hey, the thread doesn’t say “things that any reasonable person would find annoying.”
It may be I see few cars backing into spots because many cars have hatchbacks or some similar configuration that are more accessible if you park with the rear in the parking lane rather than butted up against another car in the stall in front.
I too am baffled, and often alarmed, and in typical toxic masculinity fashion, alarm turns to some sort of anger, I expect. “Yes, officer, I ran him over–twice–because I was concerned that he was not paying proper attention to traffic and was in danger of being injured.”
Cars or PUs backing into spaces- unless they block the aisle for a long time doing it, dont bother me.
Pickup trucks are okay, except two kinds of drivers- tailgators, and those that complain about the extreme amounts it cost to get a fill up- when they are driving a truck with a huge gas tank that gets 10 MPG. And then they blame it on Biden.
Now, sure all tailgators annoy, but a huge PU looming down on you is more annoying than a low sports car.
You are apparently my brother, as we had the same Dad.
Those who spit their gum into urinals.
