As soon as I heard that voice I thought “That’s the guy that does the generic viagra ad!” I’ve heard it other places too, but that’s the one that sticks out. (Er, no pun intended.)
Well, I feel vindicated. I’m apparently not the only one who hates the Burger King singer. He showed up in a Buzzfeed list of “Singers who can’t sing” celebrities.
I want my bloody taste buds back! The new strain of Covid has totally borked my taste buds. They are scrambled as opposed to dull. Nothing tastes right. Fructose I can taste, but all other sugars taste like manure. Importance to the world in general - none. But it’s pissing me off.
There’s a name for that:
That sucks @silenus I had two mild COVID infections. My tastebuds seem OK, but now that you mention it, lately I’m more sensitive to hot foods. I had a Mexican omelet yesterday, and holy cow, i had to take off t least half the jalapenos.
I thought it was just probably age related, but now I’m wondering.
Speaking of “bloody” and “taste”, a few days ago I apparently cut my gum right behind my back molar, pretty much where my wisdom tooth would be if I still had them. and ever since then I’ve had this metallic / bloody taste in my mouth. And it’s driving me crazy.
The metallic and bloody taste sounds bad. Have they implanted anything in the gumline - can’t figure out what it’s from.
Irritant: bad writing (by people who are paid to write for erstwhile respectable journals, not bad writing by nudniks on an obscure message board like myself)
At the recent Grammys, musical artists Chappell Roan continued her efforts to make outspokenness her brand by calling out the industry for its lack of benefits to those employed in it. A tangled issue, but the industry slapped back with its bitten hand with a Hollywood Reporter opinion piece with this horrible run-on, cliché-loaded sentence:
“Whether it’s Prince wresting back control of his master recordings at the height of his popularity or Petty funding his iconic album Damn the Torpedos himself — and then refusing to release it — and later taking on his label for raising the price on his LP, skin in the game earns a seat at the table. But that table requires a willingness to leave blood on the floor and to put your money where your mouth is.”
Ohh- snap.
How could anybody’s quality control let that sentence escape to the public? First that of the writer, you don’t even need an editor to wipe out that sentence immediately after typing it and then be embarrassed about it and glad no one read it.
… yep, I mean they could have easily added a " … before circling back to the safe space." or some other nonsense
I’m seeing a new type of plastic bag in the produce section of the market. They’re marked “compostable”, they’re somewhat opaque, and their texture is completely different from the old bags.
And the new texture sucks. It feels like HUMAN SKIN and is clammy and clingy. When I reach into the veg drawer of my fridge and encounter one of these bags I feel like I’m touching the cold flesh of a corpse.
Forgive me if this veers too close to the political, but must every article mentioning Elon Musk have to include “the richest man in the world”? Everyone knows who this asshole is and how much money he has.
Every media report about the recent mid-air collision at Regan National Airport refers to the CRJ involved as an “American Airlines plane”. It is not. It was a PSA Airlines plane. It is true that PSA is a wholly owned subsidiary of AA, but it operates completely independently and had a completely separate operating certificate from the FAA. Their crews are neither trained by nor employed by AA. If a PSA pilot wants to fly big jets for AA, they have to apply and be interviewed just like any other candidate.
One thing that I have experienced only a few times in my life (as it is such an outrageously evil reaction to being asked to listen), but that has always driven my blood pressure to the ceiling:
Me: Shh - listen!
Other person: What for?
Why are there so many parking spots still designated for curbside delivery? Wasn’t that a COVID accommodation? Maybe a few people still use it but the grocery stores around here have not changed the signage so they still take up the first half of the parking spaces. Folks are still avoiding those spaces even though I bet the usage is very low.
Curbside pickup has not really dropped off in popularity at least in the grocery business.
It dropped off from 2021 to 2022 but has increased from there.
ALL the companies I have worked for in the last ten years had “click and collect” offerings before COVID.
I just curbside picked up a snowblower this weekend from Lowe’s. To give you an example from another “vertical”. If I’m getting something heavy, it’s easier to get it curbside than to go in and try to find it, then try to find someone to help load it and hope I can hang onto that someone after checkout.
Plenty of people still get curbside delivery where I live. Maybe fewer than COVID but still enough. I think the issue where you live is that half the spaces have the curbside delivery signage - I’ve never seen nearly that many.
Yeah, 6-10 parking spots out of 50-200 total spots seems normal around here.
Speaking of not going into the store vis a vis Covid, this week I have been sick with a flu-like disease and fortunately the one Covid test I had left was negative. I went to get some more at CVS, and knew that you could buy them in the drive-thru. Or you supposedly could, because there was a poster in the drive thru saying that you can. Once I waited 20 minutes to get to the front of the line they told me I had to go inside to buy Covid tests.
Thankfully I had a mask and have a low chance of having Covid, so I walked in. But still, I would rather not spread a flu-like disease as much as possible even if it’s not Covid, and I definitely would have preferred to know that the sign was incorrect before spending 20 minutes in line.
