Things that infuriate you well beyond their actual importance

It came up with … fifty posts by me in this thread.
ACK!!!

I need to get a life!

And now it’s fifty one.

102 for me, and I’m really busy. I just mowed the back yard before my 11am work meeting.

I actually got up my courage today and said something!

A pet peeve of mine is that we live on a street that gets parked up every day, and now the city’s started “No Parking Tuesday” on one side and “No Parking Wednesday” on the other.

Everyone who lives there can park IF people space their cars rationally (or, I should say “considerately”, because that’s the issue).

But nope, someone will show up and park midway between two driveways, leaving room for a SmartCar on either end… but in terms of normal cars? There’s only room for their car, whereas any driver with the least bit of awareness would leave room for a second car.

Well, I was working in the front yard this morning and an older neighbor pulled up, hoarding the entire curb… and I called her out for it! “Excuse me, if you could just pull up six feet or so…”
I was sure she’d never talk to me again, but she was very gracious about it! And even a bit chagrined.

I don’t even post very much!

I can see how that would be irritating, though.

The trouble with that is you don’t then get the “in this topic” option.

ETA: unless you remember to click “in this topic” first, then enter @me (or @pjd)

Something that bothers me in real life and on message boards. Sometimes it bothers me so much I catch myself arguing out loud hours later talking to myself.
Will be following a conversation or possibly involved in it. I want to know what your logic is behind your opinion, I also want the opportunity to give you my logic. Sometimes logic is based on cites, sometimes on observations, regardless I want to know. It bothers me when a party is not curious about the logic, not willing to give their own. Sometimes I run across threads here where logic is clearly expressed, accepted at face value and then debated. This is like a breath of fresh air to me. Other times I see just the opposite and I watch a great topic degrade into a pile of shit. I think it is a control issue with me, I want to jump in and become the referee.

If it makes you feel any better, sometimes I find myself arguing in the shower with people who posted here years ago. I have a hard time letting stuff go.

I used to be like that, and am still like that a little.

I think it’s come up in this thread before, but I’m gonna bring it up again: with anything software related, something can work perfectly fine, but the devs will never stop trying to “improve” it. Just leave it the hell alone!

I got hit with the latest Android update a couple of days ago. I guess it was a major one. The first thing I noticed was they changed swiping down from the top to notifications only. If you want the basic settings like wifi, sound, and so on, now you have to swipe diagonally from the upper right corner. Huh? Why the f’in hell would I want that? So, I had to waste time looking up how to revert this “improvement.”

And then when I started up my music player, all of the sudden there’s a scrolling ticker in my notification area, and controls on the lock screen. I don’t want or need this crap. I had a hell of a time trying to figure out how to turn that off. I couldn’t find anything online, and finally stumbled on something called the “now bar” in the settings. Disabling that seems to have fixed it.

Then stuff about Gemini, which I had previously disabled, suddenly starts showing on my phone. I guess it was “helpfully” re-enabled it for me. WTF? So now I have to waste time going into the settings to re-disable the app.

Earlier today I needed to restart my phone, so I held the power button for a couple of seconds, just as I’ve always done. Instead of getting the power menu, Google Assistant pops up. Which, of course, I had previously disabled. I guess the devs were being “helpful” again. So more time wasted online trying to figure out how to set things right. Seriously, why the hell do the devs think someone would want the power button to not, you know, bring up the power menu?

I was about ready to let out a blood-curdling scream when this last bit happened. Can’t wait to see what else in in store!

I just came here to post the same thing. I finally got that fixed, but there are other issues.

I’ll try this.

The Quick Setting for Dark Mode has disappeared from the available ones. Have you been able to find it? It’s a nuisance to have to go through the main phone menu.

I didn’t notice that. I always leave my phone in dark mode no matter what.

Someone apparently mistyped their address when ordering stuff online from Micheal’s, and all their packages are coming to me. I’ve gotten four packages for this person so far (I suspect at least some of them replacements for the orders that they never received because they’re all being sent to me), and quite frankly I’m getting tired of sending them back. But here’s the kicker: I few minutes ago I returned from the UPS Store from returning one of their packages, and when I got home I discovered another package for them sitting on my doorstep.

Have you tried contacting the company shipping them?

Same thing happened to me - I found the person’s name on Facebook , messaged her, found out it was the right person. Turned out she lives across the street - I hadn’t known her last name. Don’t ask how she got her own address wrong when she was ordering - it wasn’t even a matter of digits being transposed.

It infuriates me when people try to enter a store through the “out” door while I’m attempting to exit the store through the same door with a couple of bags of groceries in my hands. It’s like some people just walk in through whatever door they get to first, completely oblivious to the fact they’re going against the flow of traffic and getting in the way of people trying to leave the store. This is right up there with people who get on an elevator without letting people off first.

Dust ruffles. They serve no constructive purpose, there are no fewer dust bunnies under the bed, and they make tucking in sheets an even more irritating chore that it already is. Without fail, the dust ruffle gets caught in the sheet as I’m tucking it in and disappears between the mattress and box spring. I can’t be bothered, I just leave it that way. I leave it to the Bed Fairy to sort out.

Plus, if I lose something under the bed, and I’m holding the dust ruffle out of the way with one hand, while shining a flashlight with the other, how am I suppose to retrieve said lost object?

My fury is totally justified!

They are aptly named, they are dusty ruffles. They get dirty and gross looking. Dog hair sticks to them. It’s a feat of strength to wash them. Unless you have the kind that are held up by elastic around the bed, you have to lift the mattress to get it out. That’s the easy part. To get it back on straight and even is next to impossible. Every time you drop the mattress back down and adjust it so it’s squared up, the dust ruffle shifts. Arrrggghhh!

I thought you were going to say, “the creature under the bed can jump out and grab me by the face.” Ah well, never mind. Probably won’t happen.

You could always get the dust ruffles off the bed once, throw them out or turn them into dustrags, and not replace them.
