Things that suck, but could have been worse

(1) My car’s heater is broken, and I can’t afford to fix it until next spring.
(2) Thank goodness I live in Los Angeles.

Your car engine always produces heat. Which part of the system is broken?

Heater core?

I slipped down the stairs and caught my arm in the banister, so now I have bruises all over my arm and on my hip where I landed. But I could have broken my arm.

Don’t have a clue. It worked fine last week, but now the heater just blows cold air.

I’ll survive, though – just have to avoid driving during those rare nights when the temperature drops below forty. (Brrrr!)

I’m getting kicked out of my apartment, but I landed a sweet-ass 3-bedroom place that I already have four people fighting over the remaining two bedrooms.

I fell down the stairs and snapped off the top of my wristbone!

But I’m much better now.

I know I’m hijacking here: sorry.

Can you buy an electric heater that plugs into the cigarette lighter?

You should be able to find one at your nearest Canadian Tire.

  1. 2 weeks before we were to close on the new house we were building, my husband got laid off, we didn’t get our beautiful dream house (which has since sold)

  2. The builder refunded our entire deposit, we still moved (but to a cheaper place), severance package paid off our debts and we are doing okay on one salary

(if he had been laid off two weeks AFTER we closed, the bigger mortgage would have been a very scary thing)

Yer funny. I wouldn’t wish Canadian Tire on anyone.

That sounds like a busted thermostat, and if I recall correctly when I had the same thing fixed, it was an easy, cheap fix. Have you had it looked at yet, fuzzy? You might be pleasantly surprised.

The last week of cold weather and snow storms sucked, but the chinook is here melting everything now, and last year the snowstorm happened right ON my birthday (tomorrow), so I spent my birthday alone, stuck in a house in a blizzard (and Jim spent it in his car, trying to get home for six hours). There isn’t supposed to be any blizzard tomorrow.

I fell down a flight of stairs, fractured my femur, and suffered a concussion. I’ll be walking with a cane for the rest of my life. But it easily could have broken my neck or my spine and I wouldn’t be walking at all. Compared to the possibilities, my injuries don’t suck at all. Except they do.

I had my drivers license cancelled for DUIs I got in 1979 and 1982.

Please…go check your radiator. Having no heat can be a sign of no coolant left in your engine. Also, when you don’t have coolant, the temp gauge won’t reliably tell you if your engine is over heating.

I cut my hand at work. Had to get stitches and had to spend two and a half weeks only using my left hand because the damn thing wasn’t healing right.

But I got workers’ comp, so that was good

And I didn’t have any tendon or nerve damage, so that was good

And another co-worker, a few months ago, cut his finger entirely off (at his home), so uh… definitely could have been worse.

I’ll have it checked tomorrow. I’d check it right now, but it’s kinda chilly tonight.

I broke a filling and the sharp edge is cutting my tongue. But, it could be worse. I could have a toothache.

My mom just spent five months in and out of several hospitals with fevers, chest pains and exhaustion. She underwent dozens, if not hundreds of tests, some of them pretty unpleasant.

Turns out she had Legionnaire’s Disease. That means she had a very good chance of dying before it was diagnosed. So yeah, it could have been worse.

Heater update: I took my car by the mechanic’s shop today, but apparently they changed their Saturday hours w/o informing me first…on the bright side, my radiator’s full, no sign of leaks or overheating, even though the heater was still blowing cold air.

On the way home (while debating whether or not to visit my secondary mechanic, who I don’t trust very much) I started fiddling with the knobs and levers and – out of the blue, my heater started working again.

Go figure. :smack:

Another clue that it’s the thermostat. Gets stuck and unstuck.

Naah – I’m confident that it’s the controls themselves which are glitchy. Which kinda sucks but…it could’ve been worse. Hey look, back on topic!

The holocaust.

Hey, at least those fuckers didn’t win the war.
