Things to do in Omaha, Nebraksa? Shortest thread ever?

Okay, since my biggest vendor is there, I will be making numerous trips. I’ve been there once…and we got so bored, we drove to Iowa.

Doesn’t say much when you go to Iowa for entertainment!

From the Things to Do In Omaha page: http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2829804-cat-Tourist+Attractions+%26+Sightseeing-omaha_things_to_do-i-rec-y;_ylt=Akt.Ph2MTjyovNdZEjgblpiNFmoL

Sorry dude. I suggest investing a few bucks in some good porn.

In Omaho, finding it shouldn’t be a problem

The zoo is quite nice, especially the tropical forest walkthrough.

I remember going to a music store in Omaha called Homer’s and snapping up a terrific Bob Mould bootleg CD for about a third of the price I would have expected to pay.

Well, I live here, and while it’s no big city, it could definitely be worse. Are you travelling year round? If so, the winter just isn’t that great. Nebraska weather is so unpredictable…

As Frank mentioned, the Henry Doorly Zoo is one of the best, anywhere.

You might want to keep up on what’s going on at the Qwest Center – U2, the Stones, Aerosmith just went through, Coldplay coming in a few days. I believe the opening rounds of March Madness are coming, maybe next year.

The Holland Performing Arts Center recently opened as well. Very nice.

Also in the summertime, the College World Series is fantastic. Two to three weeks of solid taligating with 8 schools from around the US all merging at Rosenblatt Stadium. Every night, the downtown is a riot.

Village POinte recently opened up out West (about 170th and Dodge), restaraunts, shops, comedy club, stuff like that. Recently went and saw Lewis Black, the nut.

Downtown, the Old Market is pretty popular, again, more or less in the summer. Mostly an older crowd, except at night.

If you’re into fine art, the Joslyn Museum is very nice.

This site might have some current info. Of course, there are a ton of great restaurants in Omaha, ya know, the whole cow/steak thing pretty much comes to mind for most people not from around here.

Of course, you’re right too, you can always cross the river into Iowa for the strippers and casino’s!

Omaha.com is a good place to check for local attractions and events.
We’ve got museums, sports (especially big are hockey, baseball, and football), parks, a great zoo, tons of local bands, a symphony orchestra, theatrical productions, bars/clubs, many many restaurants, shopping, fishing, hiking trails, art galleries, arcades…

What kinds of things are you interested in? I might be able to give you specific recommendations.

One time I drove to Nebraska for entertainment. Turns out, it wasn’t.

Just…wow…

The Strategic Air Command Museum just west of town off of I-80 is very good. Lots of interesting aircraft, including a SR-71 Blackbird.

Rural Nebraskan Not Sure He Could Handle the Franctic Pace of Omaha from The Onion.

Also, see what’s playing at The Sokol when you’ll be in town.

Lincoln is just a hop and a skip down I-80, and The Rococo Theatre often has good national bands.

Try V Mertz, The French Cafe, and La Buvette for dining, all in The Old Market.

If you golf, you could play a round at Quarry Oaks.

I was going to say let me check with my brother – poor guy is 21 and stationed there – but other people seem to have come up with some ideas. He’s not a partier that I know of, but from what I’ve heard even for a non-partier Omaha is dull dull dull.

Of course, I don’t live in an exciting place myself. I still don’t know how we’re going to entertain my SO’s parents this next week. At least we have casinos, but not much else.

Omaha has lots of good restaurants and plenty of bars.

All there is to do is eat and/or drink; unless you’re a health nut.

If you’re a health nut in Omaha, you ride your bicycle or jog or "power walk"anywhere but the recreational trail system. And you do all of this inappropriate roadway excercise in the dark or near dark, the fog or the rain–wearing dark and non-reflective clothing just to startle and/or piss off us fatties.

Here’s the website for the Greatet Omaha Convention & Visitors Bureau. Has event calendar, itineraries, nightlife, restaurants, galleries, etc.

The one time I was in Omaha, I toured the USS Hazard and Marlin, in Freedom Park.

Yeah, Sokol is pretty great. Nice, up close feel and atmosphere. I saw Wilco there a couple of years ago, and the Strokes. Both great shows, although I prefer Wilco.

:Hijack:

Yeah, missed that show. I’ve missed so many Wilco shows due to circumstance and bad luck that I’m starting to think the one time I saw them in Austin is going to be my only time.

Jeff Tweedy is playing at the Rococo soon. I think. Unless that show’s already done.

:End hijack:
