OK, time for a group hug - everybody gather around - and watch where your hands go!!!
I got my van back from the shop - boy, are my headlights bright now! They polished the lens thingies and they’re no longer all yellowed and scratched. Plus the ride is a lot smoother - I guess balancing the tires did it. We just need to put one of the seats in and we’ll be ready to head south.
Other than that, it’s another night in paradise. Without chocolate. Life can be cruel sometimes… <insert deep sad sigh>
Am vertical for now. I am trying to rest as much as possible today, since the next 3 days are all busy and out and about days for me… I just wish the damned thing would settle in my chest and be done–I hate drippy noses on anyone, especially me.
Rebo–you look very nice. He is as tall as that Xmas tree!
My parents sent 2 boxes of Xmas gifts–but there are none for #2 son. I do hope another box arrives soon, otherwise I will have to call (you all may remember that my grandmother used to “forget” to include a gift for me–out of all 5 kids. Long story, left scars for life etc).
OK…that truly sucks. Have you tried making it up the ladder of supervisors and managers? You’ve been waiting a truly unreasonable amount of time. You might want to tell them that you’ll be reporting them to the BBB and the state Attorney General (do they have the same type of consumer advocacy function that we have in our Attorney General’s office?). Also, are home warranty companies regulated by the state’s Department of Insurance? Companies seem to fear them a lot.
Sorry everyone’s feeling tired, sick, etc. Hugs to all. Please update us as soon as you can, Shadow and Pie.
Yay for internet at work, snowbunny and boo on the broken mug, swampy.
Happy Anniversary, kai and skiffman (don’t know how I missed that earlier)!!
Long day at work today and tomorrow promises to be longer. I get to go in early because I have meetings straight through from 8:30 to 12 and there are people I HAVE to meet with tomorrow who are only in in the morning. Maybe I’ll find a way to get out of there early.
Will you be making a third drive-by today, MBG? And if so, in which direction?
Most of my Christmas shopping is done, but I still need to get out and find a couple of items I want to send Mom and I really really need to get Christmas cards out.
Off to wander the internet and consider further dinner. (So far we have: cereal with a side of carrots.)
oh - I remember some of what was in the disappeared post:
Congrats to Sean and Future Mrs Factotem
Happiversary to kai & skiff
Also appropriate greetings to everyone else. grope. hug. finger-shake. etc.
I am tired. I went to the doc today, my temp is slightly elevated but not quite a fever, and she said my throat looks a little irritated, so I picked up a Z-Pak on the way home, but (dammit) I forgot to buy yogurt/acidophillus. <sigh>
Heh heh heh…I’ve been a book-hoardin’ fool the last couple of days. Here’s the current spoils:
(What I’m currently reading) From the public library Moonheart, Charles de Lint The Death of Sleep, Anne McCaffrey & Jody Lynn Nye
From the closet outcropping of Mt. ToBeRead Sunshine, Robin McKinley Black Elk Speaks, John G. Neihardt
From the university library: fun version The Importance of Living, Lin Yutang The Last of the Just, Andre Schwartz-Bart
From the university library: thesis version
Thirteen books about Puerto Rican history, politics, and identity
Links to three e-books about same
(Additions to the Mt. TBR outcrop) From the used bookstore The Briar King, Greg Keyes Children of Dune, Frank Herbert
A complete, matched set of The Lord of the Rings with the movie covers!
My Christmas present to myself The Simpsons Season 2, found at the cool video store for $20!
Extra Credit Question: What is Spaz doing over Christmas break?
Hazel-do you have a hardware store near you? Or a Home Depot? Hell, they may sell them at Jewel…
There is product you can buy, that you install using your blowdryer. It’s a transparent plastic film that sort of shrink wraps your windows. You can still see through them and it’s much more presentable than duct tape. 3M makes it. No idea what it’s called. We used it in this house before we got most of the windows replaced–it makes a huge difference.
Here is one such item: cheapwarmth
they have cheaper ones as well. Figure out what windows are the draftiest and go from there.
Oh, and put on a sweater–and start baking. That’ll warm things up.
Just my 2 cents.
Now I find I have to take #1 son to church. Today I hate having kids–I’m sick DAMMIT–I was about to take a hot bath and crawl in bed. He has to go shopping with his youth group for poor people for their Christmas Angels program–giving gifts to whole families who otherwise wouldn’t have a Christmas. Fck that sht! I’m sick!
Haze space heaters will vastly increase your electric bill is all I am saying. Here in Cali 'lec-tric-ity be spensive! Gas is cheap at half the price.
Thanks for the thoughts about the heat or lack there of. I did go up the chain a supervisors at idiots-r-us-heating and she told me not to call there anymore they would call me. The woman today at the warranty couldn’t understand why I was upset as why couldn’t I see that I had to wait…erm I belive I have I have done every part of my side of the bargain inculding waiting now they aren’t delivering.
As for BBB idiots-r-us-heating have had numerous complaints against them none of which they have responded to.
I am in tears again now - sorry - I am not normally a cryer but damn this is frustrating. It is horrible going home to a house that is cold that has no chance to warm up.
I think you need to take your complaints up the ladder at the home warranty company. They’re the ones you should be reporting at this point, mmmmms. If they sign contracts with vendors to provide service to you, they should be in a position to get you some service. Tell them specifically how long you’ve been without heat and tell them who you’ll complain to if they don’t straighten things out promptly. Do they have a service level they’re supposed to be meeting? My home warranty company (which I never had to use) had guaranteed response times. I can’t believe it’s not fixed yet…
Glad things are going better, Cutie.
I’m watching Jonny Quest (and typing at the same time, so I’m not paying lots of attention). It’s rather amusing. I’ll be interested in seeing what my niece and nephew think.
Gotta go search for Christmas cards. I should update my list too…
I love anything Robin McKinley touches. She’s probably the best fantasy writer out there today IMNSHO.
I’m working my way through the de Lint books at the public library. I had read a few of his short stories in several of The Year’s Best Fantasy & Horror anthologies and I picked up From a Whisper to a Scream and Svaha for my own bookshelf. I love his take on urban fantasy, especially when the crowgirls show up.
gt I was going to give it one more shot at idiots-r-us-heating tomorrow then I was going up the ladder at the warranty company. Like I say the woman today didn’t understand the concept of why I was pissed off at having to wait and I was to upset to deal with it rationally.
You know what is pissing me off most of all I manage a multi-million dollar Oilfield Service district and I am staggared at what passes for customer service in other places
First off, congrats to **Sean ** and soon-to-be Mrs. Sean!
I’m sorry you’re feeling so crappy Rigs, I hate having colds, and I especially hate the world expecting me to go on when I all I want to do is curl up in bed and stay warm.
Hugs to both **Pie ** and Shadow.
Good luck and fingers crossed on the job hunts for Mr. Rebo and Dotty.
ems, I’m sorry to read that you’re still having heating woes and the serious lack of cooperation with the warranty company and contractor. I think that I would be e-mailing the State Attorney General’s consumer protection branch and cc’ing the warranty company. That’s complete and utter bullshit. It’s not like this is summer. Anyway, hugs to you. It sounds like you need them.
Who was it that asked if we were done with our Christmas shopping yet? I’m not done; I haven’t even started.Mr. Taters and I are going Friday evening after work.
Tonight I need to bake brownies for tomorrow’s monthly birthday social. I was going to take my RDO in lieu of the one I have to give up next Friday. However, since I had already obligated myself to make brownies, I will honor said obligation. I have to give up my RDO next Friday because that’s our Christmas party day. I kind of feel like I have to go, so…I guess I’ll be a good office mate and attend.
Once again, nothing exciting is going on here in Taterland. My son is upstairs snoozing, my daughter is upstairs on MySpace or something, and my husband is sitting at the other computer here in the den.
I shall have to make chop-chop soon. I have boneless, skinless chicken boobies out. I haven’t decided how to prepare them. I’ll make some rice and green beans to go with the boobies.
Well, I guess I should start dinner. I didn’t realize it’s almost 6:30.
You have fine taste (says Lissla Lissar ). Have you read Dragonhaven, her new one, yet? And I like later De Lint better than earlier, too, although he’s not one of my alltime favourites. Our cat is named Lady Aerin, Dragon-Killer. Mr. Lissar wants the next one to be Narknon. We’re not McKinley nuts around here, oh, no. I wish we’d named a more intelligent cat after Aerin-sol- the kitty’s so dumb it’s painful.
And Haze bough Sunshine at my work. Rebo, you and the husband look cute!
Hugs for everyone who needs them. Which is 3/4 of the MMP
We had a fantastic visit with the midwife, talked about medications, intervention, positioning, what Mr. Lissar’s going to participate in and what he’s not (no cord-cutting), when to call them, what to bring (food, slippers, pillows). I would like to have my midwives move in and take care of the baby with us. They’re wonderful people.
Off to bed soon. Everyone feel better tomorrow, please, especially rigs, ems, Pie, and Shadow. Love you all.
Well, I think I’m beginning to get the hang of the basics at this job. Talking to guests, no sweat. Talking to them while trying to get the really ancient and quite non-intuitive computer program to cooperate, definite sweat. I’ll get it, I feel really good about it, but oy vey, that program is upwards of fifteen years old. Unfortunately, new software would be an incredible hassle and more importantly would cost a medium fortune to install, so I guess I get to learn the ancient stuff instead.
My coworkers, however, are amazingly patient and helpful.
I got taken out today to see a bunch of the condos and stuff so I have some idea what I’m talking about when booking them. It was about 18F and while I was being driven around the property, there was still a fair bit out of outdoor walking. Brrrrrrrrr! But the other two getting the tour with me who work front desk are really cute and polite and nice young (as in 20 at the most, I think, cradle-robbing young) men who were opening doors and getting a stool so I could get out of the SUV without breaking my neck on the ice and stuff…I felt so pampered. Really great guys. I’ll be seeing them around work a lot and will enjoy it.
Appropriate hugs and whatnot all around, I haven’t been able to keep track of all of everybody’s developments because I’ve been a bit obsessed with my own life.
How do people know when I’m reaching for the phone to log off for the night right at 5 when I’m due to leave? Quite literally, I reached for it, and the damn thing…rang. I ended up leaving about fifteen minutes late.
ding [Bdoggio[/B wins the song contest! I am a mother who is getting old and it is a drag, but my pharmaceuticals are by prescription! And they are blue, not yellow!
(((Shadow)))
rigs I hope that you get better quickly, I hate colds too, and they always seem to coincide with the children needing you to get up and cart them around. Stay warm. If your throat is still hurting try drinking some hot lemonade
mmmms isn’t there some authority you can appeal to in order to get you some heat? This issue has gone beyond tolerable. The best of luck in getting this resolved as quickly as possible, and if it were me I would spread word far and wide how awful this company is. Maybe a detailed letter to the editor of your local newspaper? A local television station which does a consumer watch type of program? Picketing the office? You have my sympathies, being cold bites at least as much as having a cold does.
Hey SpazzCat! Please let me know if you like The Death of Sleep. I really like Anne McCaffrey’s work, and could use a new book by her. It may or may not be a new book, but I haven’t heard of it.
Very nice photo of rebo and the mister!
Well, you all should be admiring me for my restraint, my daughter, son-in-law went in for a family portrait and my daughter sent me copies of the proofs. I really am restraining from sharing some 50+ pics of them, especially all the Tea pics. I am goofy over that little girl!
And thanks for the anniversary greetings. Sadly, I am home and skiffman is out on that stupid charter, so I guess I will drink my bottle of sparkling wine and watch a movie after the kids go to bed. Or at least to their bedrooms.
That’s all from me, barring anything exciting happening between now and the morning, sweet dreams everyone!
