Things to do in Vegas when you're dead - a holiday MMP

Happy Monday everyone!

I stayed in Vegas for one night on the big move drive from Wyoming to California as it was a handy midway point. I was by myself but I had a ball! I saw the fountains at the Bellagio, ate dinner at the buffet, wandered the strip, took a bunch of pics. Mr Ems-to-be and I have decided to so the legal wedding stuff in Vegas in Feb/March time then have the wedding blessing at home in the UK next August. I only live 4 hours away form Vegas so I have no excuse!

My weekend went by way to quick maily because SUnday was spent on the couch

Gah this is now the third time I have tried to complete this damn post!

I was on the couch recovering from the Christmas Party Hangover From Hell. We had a ball but it all gets a little hazy after I called a BIG operator a weenie for not drinking his drink and then the tequila challenge started.

When I got home I must have just started stripping at the door as every couple of feet from the door to my bedroom there was an article of clothing or some jewellery on the floor.

:frowning: Sorry to hear that… and I admit I probably wasn’t reading the same threads where you were writing. Here’s hoping for a much better 2008.

And you better fire 2007 quick, because it’s about to give two-weeks notice in a week’s time :stuck_out_tongue:

**Cutie **-- that sucks, too :frowning: Especially when the reason you have to go through this trouble isn’t exactly a happy one, either!

**ems **-- some people know how to live

**Shadow **-- yay on starting to get rid of stuff. Like everyone else said, easy does it. Don’t try and undo years’-worth of problems in a weekend. It **will **work out.

**Haze **-- I wonder, I have a (probably stupid) ides, but I wonder if it has any merit at all… students will be told that all printed work will be scrutinized for plagiary with a fine tooth comb… but not so much (as in, only spot-checked – not given a complete pass) if they submit work the old fashione way – hand written! Then at least you’ll know they had to copy the material, word by word – and hopefully at least some of the stuff will sink in. Do you think this is a completely screwy idea?

Bobbio… wow. Just wow  And thanks for making the world a slightly better place by your service to other people.

**Rigs **-- yeah, eye-care sucks big-time. Especially, it sucks all the money out of one’s pockets… I know what you mean (and have been putting off getting a new frame for at least 2 years now. There’s always something better to do with the money!)

I have a cold. Boo, hiss :frowning:

Jose Cuervo!
You Are A Friend Of Mine!
I Like To Drink You With A Little Salt And Lime!
Did I Kiss All The Cowboys?
Did I Shoot Out The Lights?
Did I Dance On The Bar?
Did I Start A Fight?

Sing it with me mmmmmms!

I tried to find the lyrics and music but gave up after a good three minutes of searchin’.

Ok, I’m all learnt up for the day. Or at least enough for one day.

Swiss steak, rice, butter beans, squash and cornbread for supper. 'Twill be good. A Certain Burly Somebody best be appreciative too.

First off, neato OP! The only time I spent in Vegas was lunch at the airport. It was back when I was taking flying lessons, and I needed a long cross-country flight, so my instructor and I flew from San Diego to Las Vegas, had lunch, then got back in the plane and flew back. I’m not much of a gambler - I’m too frugal - but I’d love to see the place, just to get my fill of neon!

**swampy ** - learning about insurance? You’re gonna be an insurance salesguy?

Today, I finally got my evaluation done with my boss. No big surprises. My share of the pay pool (I’m not going to try to explain the NSPS idiocy…) was divided as half for a raise and half for a bonus. I’d have liked more raise/less bonus since my retirement pay depends upon my last 3 years of salary, but I understand why they split it like they did. And really, the bonus will cover a big chunk of my kid’s wedding expenses, so it’ll be nice having that up front.

We also talked about this coming year. Because I’m earning near the top of my pay band, more is expected of me than of the junior folks. Fair enough, but if I don’t get assignments that require more of me, what the heck do I do? I expressed this to my boss and he agrees, but the fact is, at the moment, there’s not a whole lot of work in house anyway. Now, if I wanted to volunteer to go to Iraq for 6 months… So, yeah, I expect another year of underperforming unless something happens in my area of expertise.

Speaking of Florida, I’ve got an appointment to get my van checked over tomorrow to ensure it’s reasonably sound to take to Ocala and back. We’ll drop it off tonight, and with luck, nothing scary or expensive will be found. And we’ll be able to bring back a load of the kid’s stuff to lessen our load in May.

That pretty much sums up my exciting day. I hesitated to mention any of it, lest I make **BBBobbio ** look like a lazy slacker. I’ve got a load of jeans in the washer and when **FCD ** gets home, we’ll drop off the van. Oh yes, you read that right. Envy my life - I dare you!

Bwahahahahaha  Lemme check:

Cowboy Kissin’ - Nope mine was at his own Party in Texas
Shootin’ - Nosir!
Dance on the Bar - Maybe like I said it got a little hazy
Start a fight - Tequila challenge!

My Safari web browser is acting funny. Showing some coding instead of images and such, and I could only see a couple of BooFae’s pictures. Looks and sounds like you had fun. The GF and I almost went to Vegas from San Clemente when we were there in September, but chickened out at the last second.

I got to see the Stanley Cup yesterday. It was at the Navy Exchange in Norfolk, and I had stopped in there on a whim to finish up my Christmas shopping. If’n I had a camera with me, I would have got in line to get a picture of me next to it.

Got all the leaves in the yard cleaned up Saturday, and put up the outdoor lights yesterday. Of course, before nine o’clock last night, half of them were drooping from the gutters. So I got that to look forward to tonight. After I get home. In the dark.

Well, I’m trying to teach them academic honesty here - they don’t seem to realize that claiming someone else’s work as your own is basically fraud. It’s a question of ethics. I could never give my students even implied permission to plagiarize, regardless of whether or not they learn anything from the text. Also, I know from first-hand experience that it’s possible to completely zone out while writting stuff by hand. My history teacher in high school would make us copy the textbook word for word, and all I had to show for it in the end were cramped fingers. Besides, I’m teaching a writing class. Copying stuff won’t teach them anything.

(Sorry, I’m not railing against you; I’m just venting my general frustration.)

If they edited the stuff they cut and paste in a way that created some kind of coherent whole, then maybe I’d be more impressed, but the stuff they hand in is either copied word for word or slapped together in a way that makes it obvious the paragraphs are not supposed to be part of the same text. They wouldn’t know a transitional phrase if one bit them in the ass.

Grumble.

ems, sounds like a fun weekend. Just the thought of tequila makes me shudder, though. Bad experiences.

Drive-by. Insanely busy today. Going home to soak my head. Ta!

Going for first post, second page.

Also, I want to hit Mr. Lissar’s Blackberry with a rock. He’s off work now. Stop trying to contact him!

Damn it, didn’t work.

first?

Those blackberries are sturdy lil buggers.

At last I got a human at the driving school! I’ve been calling and calling to get #1 son another appointment. Jeesh. He can’t do it until Saturday Dec. 22.

I am rereading Harry Potter. It’s interesting–there actually is a bit of foreshadowing from like Chapter 2 on. Also, while Rowling is by no means a gifted writer–she does have a good ear for dialogue. I never noticed that before. No idea why I’m rereading–Ok, I do have an idea: I have no ambition to get to the library anytime soon and I want mindless entertainment. Also, DVD #5 comes out tomorrow.

Pthibbit.

Very nice OP, BooFae! Really enjoyed seeing all the pics of the Grand Canyon too; I’ve never seen it, even from the air. Glad that you’re safe and sound back home, and thanks for sharing with us.

Wow, BBBBobbio, you really had some weekend! I enjoy reading your EMT/Fire call stories too. Hah, a bit odd to see those red painted toes, though. And his naughty bits poking out too! Good golly …

Haze, thanks for sharing the tales of your plagirizing students! It’s okay to search for stuff on the 'net, but geeze, at least write it up in your own words! You’d think they’d have learned by now, but I guess some folks are just hard-headed. LOL

Had an interesting day at work - one of the bosses threw the time sheets book at me this morning!! I had ticked him off, but that didn’t give him the right to throw the binder at me; he then went back to his office and slammed the door. I don’t think I’m going to report this to HR, but a couple of people did advise me to do that. sighs I’m just so sick of him and his little group (it’s just three people); I have more problems/trouble doing their time because he’s extremely anal - they have to account for practically every second of their time! Today was the day the timecards (heh, they’re actually online) get signed, so I usually go and check to see if anyone used leave on Friday afternoon. I couldn’t check on his people, though, because he had taken the binder with the sign-in sheets into his office and closed the door. So I asked him, “how am I supposed to do that if you’ve got the information in your office and your door is closed?” That’s when he threw the tantrum (and the binder! LOL). Lord, I wish they’d just let people do their own time, because I’ve just about had it. Some folks credit time is all messed up - and that supervisor is one of them! … argh, I’m on a rant, so I’ll end it here. Sorry! At any rate, I’m glad the work day is over and I’m at home!!

… and is it Firday yet?!

OK I am about ready to kill the heating contractors - I still have no heat by the way and it was 36 degs outside this morning when I left for work.

I finally lost it about 20 mins ago - I have ran round and got the permit that is needed ($50 and 20 mins of my time downtown as opposed to the $500 they wanted to charge to do it). Then I call them and they want a check in their hand before they will arrange the crane - they are a 90 min drive from here which I just found out. The office guy said it was a check only or nothing so I went off. This guy has been giving me the run around the entire time changing his story. So I spoke to his manager and yes they take credit cards and yes she will call me back in 30 mins with a day and time.

I am calling the warrenty people and complaining about this bunch of idiots. JEEZ!!!

I am learnin’ up on how to be an insurance agent because I’m leaning heavily toward taking that job as QA person. The bad part is it’s boring. The good part is I don’t have to pay for it. I think the good part outweighs the bad part. Plus, with this I could keep doing some outside consultant work if’n I want. Plus, I could sell some insurance which pays pretty good commission if’n I want. Plus, they’re offering pretty dang good pay for the QA stuff which is about thirty hours worth of work a week. Plus, the benefits are reeeeeeeeeealllllllllllly good. I can’t think of any reason why I shouldn’t take this gig. It’ll start in January. January 7th to be exact.

Then again, there’s this consultant work I spoke about last week plus the headhunter people who I should hear back from tomorrow. Looks like I’ll have a lot of choices to think about. Still the insurance thing does sound good.

Such is my possibly impending employment situation at present.

Supper tonight was good. So good, in fact, it’ll be supper again tomorrow night. Da bear likes leftovers.

It is strangely warm here and will be all week. Like low 80s for highs and low 60s for lows. Freakish.

Speaking of weather, how are you midwesterners gettin’ along with this storm thingy? Is it headed toward New England? I gave up trying to figure out what the weather folks are sayin’.

Jan 7 is my mom’s b-day. Thought you’d like to know that.

Back from dropping off the van and grabbing a burger at Bert’s. Along with getting a once-over for a safe trip, I’ve been noticing that the van always feels like it’s driving over a bumpy road. I’ve got this sickening feeling that it could be an expensive issue. If it’s just a matter of comfort, I can deal, but if it’s a safety problem, well, there’s no question it needs to be fixed. So we shall see. Stoopit van.

(Sends warming thoughts to ems) I hope you get that mess straightened out very soon. So frustrating.
The chicken isn’t thawed, so I think we’ll eat stew I dug out of the freezer for dinner, and I’ll make the curry tomorrow. I still feel crappy, so I’m putting off heavy cooking. I hope drugs will mean better sleep and more useful activity tomorrow. I should bake (white, whoile wheat, egg bread, and black pepper and ham), and I’ll do bean soup (with a smoked turkey leg) in the crockpot overnight. Good stuff.

I’ll do sump’n insurancey in her honor that day.

I’m sleepy and it’s only seven p.m. here. Ol’ y’all know who has gone to his place cause he brought home some paperwork stuff to do, poor thing. I told him ok, but that tomorrow was a spend the night night.

:stuck_out_tongue:
