Things to do to remember my Dad on Father's Day

Toss a frisbee. Make pancakes. Play cribbage. Take a hike. Sail a boat. Tell a corny joke. Go bowling. Build a cupboard. Scratch my back. Drive a station wagon. Love my family.

What would you do?

Put flowers on his grave.

Make sure the bird feeders are full.

Well, I’d watch football, but there isn’t any right now.

Complain about the government?

I helped someone else get a new grill home (I’m the friend with the pickup, and it’s a bit grill) to their husband/dad so *they *could have a great father’s day.

Every time I make potato omelette it’s Father’s Day. Because he made the best potato omelette in the world. At one point when us kids were all in our teens, he’d make two: one wetter, one dryer, to satisfy different tastes. As our appetites diminished, he started making only one, but he tilted the pan just enough that one end of it would be wetter, one dryer.

Every time I DIMyself, it’s Father’s Day. Because one day he came home and couldn’t open the door, and when I opened it for him he said “I’ve been saying I need to change that lock, guess I can’t put it off any more… please take out the toolbox while I change,” and I said “no need,” and handed him the key for the new lock I’d put in place. Because hey, any kind of DYI an accountant can do, a girl ought’a be able to do too!

Any day in the year can be Father’s Day.

Eat ice cream. My dad was crazy about ice cream and ate it almost every day. This cone’s for you, Dad.

Yeah, ice cream.

And a whole lot of unhealthy food. Gee, maybe I shouldn’t memorialize my dad that way…

Let’s see, there were the bourbons and cheese ‘n’ crackers as “cocktail hour” to get ready for the huge steak and mashed potatoes and no veggies, washed down with a bottle of wine, followed by a 10-scoop sundae (The Kitchen Sink was a favorite), then another drink and coffee…with a scoop of ice cream in it!
Then off to bed – getting up early to bring a dozen donuts home for the family…

We marvel at why dad didn’t weigh 300 lbs. He somehow stayed in shape.
