Things to do with canned crabmeat

I bought three cans of crabmeat to make crab dip for the Superbowl. I decided on cocktail wienies instead. Now I have 3 cans of crabmeat and crab dip for one is too much and too rich.

Anyone have good recipes? I think I’m going to take one can and make a crab omelette, but other ideas would be appreciated.

I’ve never made crab cakes, but that seems to be a popular option.

You could make an alfredo sauce, add the crab meat, and serve it over linguine. Add a couple of crab claws if you have them. Garnish with a couple of smoked tuna slices, and a couple of Roma tomato slices topped with freshly-grated Parmesan cheese around the rim of each bowl.

Follow any clam chowder recipe, substituting crab for the clams. Crab chowder yummmmmm.

Mix it up with a little mayo and chopped green onion. Spread on English muffin halves and top with sharp cheddar. Pop under the broiler til all melty…nom nom nom

One can for dip.

Two cans for crab cakes.

An easy crab salad: add pasta, chopped celery, scallions, mayo and seasoning. Maybe a little diced red pepper for color.

This is a great move for a tasty, quick treat. (I always add in some cajun pepper sauce for a little hoodoo kick). Also, pepper jack cheese is a good variation…

Enjoy!!!

Smear some cream cheese (low-fat, of course) on a plate. Smear a little seafood cocktail sauce on top. Dump some crabmeat on top, put the rest away (if you are making only a single serving) Serve with Wheat Thins (reduced fat, of course).

I always made macaroni and shrimp salad for New Years day - teeny shells, chopped hard boiled egg, chopped onion/celery/carrot, shrimp, and lotsa mayonnaise. I can confirm that a can of crabmeat mixed in will do absolutely no harm!

One could also mix the crab with a little mayo and lemon juice, or mayo and curry powder, and use to fill the hollow in a de-seeded avocado.

I had crab quesadillas once at a friend’s house once, They just used a normal chicken quesadilla recipe, and substituted crab meat.

I’ve been craving crab cakes lately, I say make some of them…and then invite me to dinner!

Crab Hash.

Crab, potato(boiled) and cheese into a cassarole dish…bake slowly until cheese melts; then serve with eggs for a nice brunch.

spice it up a bit with some old bay or cajun seasoning.

Canned crab meat’s good in a bisque.

crab meat with avocado is fantastic. Choose a nice piece or two of butter lettuce. Halve the avocado and slice it over the lettuce leaf. Mix the crab meat with salt and pepper and a bit of lemon juice and arrange on top of the avocado slices. Combine a teaspoon of mayo, about 1.5 tea spoons of soy sauce, a dash of lemon juice, salt and pepper and drizzle all over the whole shootin’ match. Add a few pine nuts.

It makes a fantastic starter if you’re dining with someone, or sometimes I’ll have it as a lunch time meal. Ummmm, craaab.

Another option is a crab/mango salad. Take greens of your choice - I usually use baby spinach. Slice mango, mushrooms, green onion or leeks, avocado and radish if you like it. Arrange the tinned crab. The dressing is mayo, lemon juice, honey, paprika and salt and pepper.

Yummy.

This was traditional holiday fare in my house growing up. Sorry about the vagueness of some quantities; my mother wasn’t one for accuracy.

Crab Stuffed Celery

2 Cans crab meat, drained
2 Small cream cheese (or one large)
lemon juice
1 Tsp Worcestershire sauce
½ Cup mayonnaise (maybe less)
Celery stalks, rinsed and cut into 3-4” pieces

Combine all ingredients and pack generously into celery. Chill.

How about crab crêpes?

Just make a basic white sauce, add the crab, and use as crêpe filling.

Send it to that cat that was being totured.:o
