What have you searched for and been unable to find? (Feel free to either post your own, or point me towards something I’ve missed)
(1) The Bud Light “Limo” ad with Dr. Galazckeweicz. On the IMDB I found out that the actor in it was the same guy who played the nervous techie in Ocean’s 11, which is awesome. And lots of places TALK about that ad. But it’s nowhere to be found
(2) Another ad: Charles Barkley selling Right Guard deodorant. “It’s clear… with no FLAKY WHITE STUFF”. A few places talk about it, no video
Both of those were national and popular enough that I was actually a bit surprised not to find anything. These next two are shots in the dark:
(3) Another TV ad, this one for Philadelphia soft-rock station B101.1. This ad ran during the mid-90s, when I was in college, and featured the tag line “More music in the mornings… that’s the difference”, said in a hilariously goofy voice by a woman-on-the-street.
(4) One of my prized possessions is an old advertising poster for Andy Boy brand broccoli which features a young blonde girl dressed up as a bundle of broccoli, and features the tagline “The Tender Years”. It’s simultaneously extremely campy and slightly pedophilic. But I inherited it from my grandmother, a woman of impeccable taste, so I figure that has to mean it’s acceptable. I’m curious if it caused any controversy, or if there are any stories about it or anything. (I mean, why is there a poster for broccoli anyhow?). Or does it have collector’s value or something? (Not that I would sell it.) But nothing.
I have noticed that while seemingly 99% of music videos are available, there are a couple missing –
Mary Blige’s original “Dance For Me”, only exists in remix form.
Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry”, only a partial of the original.
I’ve also never been able to find any decent clip of “It Came From Hollywood”,despite being able to watch virtually the entire movie of other titles.
A song by a band called Soul Phoenix. It’s called “Somebody’s Superhero” and I have no idea where it came from, but it was on a cd at my parent’s house and I love it I’d settle for the info on the band, and I’d gladly pay for the full CD.
Too difficult to tell. It really should pop up under a lyric, or partial lyric phrase, but I am not having any luck at all. Sent you an email, you’re more than welcome to try.
A toy I used to collect as a kid in the 80s. They were these little plastic pieces of “jewelry”–large fake plastic gemstones set in another piece of plastic, on a necklace string or something–that opened up to be little plastic animals. I think I had a red gemstone set in yellow that became a bear and a green pickle-shaped one that became a bird.
OH MY GOD! I tried to find these months ago, but had no luck at all. But just now, a few more tries brought me to “Sweet Secrets.” The parrot. I never had any of the dolls, I only liked the animals, which were much rarer, apparently. That’s why I had trouble finding them. Huh.
My father had a book called The Easy Way or the Hard Way. He lent it to a friend, who moved and left no forwarding address. I don’t know the author, and I’d LOVE to get this book for my dad, as he’s been talking about it for over 30 years, I believe.
In the 1980s, there was a Spanish drama on TV called encadenados. I remember it being about a plantation, and there was a good deal of friction between the male lead and his girlfriend/lover’s father.
And I missed the series finale. :smack:
I always wanted to find it again, but neither the internet nor conventional rental options seem to have this thing.
The magazine “The Wittenburg Door” (yes, it’s misspelled) ran an album review for what was probably a vanity record. The artist was The Wauhobs, some family who thought they had musical talent, so they made a Christian record.
The review was skeweringly backhanded in its compliments, with things like “breaks free of constraints of normal meter and time signature”,etc. This somehow became sort of a meme even in the days before the web, and they were hired for concerts, where people cheered them in what was probably a very sarcastic way, really. The problem was that the family thought they really were hot stuff, and began having conflicts, brought on by their success.
There’s a book I checked out so often from the library when I was a kid. IIRC, it was set in Scotland. The heroine was named Kelpie, I think, and she had the sight (I can’t recall what they called it in the book). And there were two brothers, one who liked her and one who hated her. I paid so many fines on that dang book because I never wanted to turn it in. I wish I’d just kept it and paid for it, because I haven’t been able to find it at all.
