Things you hate about fictional characters you love

Please… let’s get it right. It is LUG. (Lesbian until graduation)

Good gad, I missed one!
Fraser is alive?

Inara is intelligent, sexy, and cultured, but I’m having a hard time sympathizing with her feelings after she gives Mal the cold shoulder through all of the episodes and then gets all pissed off and teary after he sleeps with a prostitute. When the entire crew’s in a brothel!! Then, at the end, she’s still pissed off and conflicted, so what does she do? She decides to leave him!

Inara, honey, just do what anyone else in the explored universe would do in that situation. Fuck his brains out, and worry about the consequences later.

My favorite fictional character of all time has to be George Smiley. He’s got all the brains and sense one could ever wish for, and he’s still down to earth and human. That said, he needs to kick his wife Anne’s ass right out of Bywater Street. Seriously–he follows her around like a lost puppy through the whole Karla Trilogy, and I would have loved it if LeCarre’ wrote in a chapter about how Smiley told Anne to make him a a motherfuckin’ sandwich and get her cheating ass back onto the street and make some bread, while he went out cruising with his posse looking to bust a cap in Karla’s ass. That would have ruled!

Barely. The Light’s On At Signpost indicates that he’s spotted the end of the line, and is ranting about it. But Flashman On The March has been out for a year now. Where were you? I even started a thread about it.

Heh. I knew someone was going to come in here and say that. Me, I came into here to claim about her relationship with White Haven. First time the books hinted at it I had a little “uh-oh” in my head and it’s been as bad as I feared (especially since, falling into your “good at everything” complaint, her experience as an adulteress was far too painless). Hopefully he’ll be killed off soon.

(btw, wiki claims that she’s actually Admiral of the Fleet and Captain HMS Unconquered Lady Dame Honor Stephanie Alexander-Harrington, Steadholder Harrington, Duchess Harrington, Countess White Haven)

Waiting for the next McAuslan  apparently.

I was trying to minimise any spoilers for the end of At All Costs, since her promotion to Admiral of the Fleet, Commander of Home Fleet, Captain of HMS Unconquored Lady Dame Honor Stephanie Alexander-Harrington, Steadholder Harrington, Duchess Harrington, Countess White Haven, Butcher of Baselisk (I wonder how much longer we can make this title?) doesn’t come until literally the last chapter of the book.

That said, her claim to the title of Countess White Haven is tenuous at best, since Hammy has an older wife who would presumably have first dibs at the title. I’m not sure if she or anyone else even tries to tag the Countess White Haven title onto her. And yeah, the fairy tale ease with which she engaged in her romance with White Haven was kind of annoying, but thankfully that was a relatively unimportant part of the book. Man oh man, I can’t wait till the next book, which I hear will center around Victor “The Iron Fist of The Revolution” Cachat and Anton “The Full Nelson” Zilwicki. That’s gonna freaking ROCK.

I pretty much interpreted it as Willow being pretty dead set on not getting into relationships with guys, given how poorly those have turned out for her (Xander was oblivious to her until she was in another relationship, Oz, in addition to his monthly issues, had the fling with the she-werewolf and then left, and the only other guy I can remember showing interest in her tried to eat her, since he was a vampire). Her relationship with Tara DID last much longer than any guy she was involved with, and was ended mostly due to an outside issue (ie: Warren spraying bullets like mad) rather than an issue with the relationship itself (Xander beign a jerk, Oz running off because he couldn’t control himself, etc.)

That said, I’m still a Willow/Xander shipper. I’m a hopeless romantic that way.

And that dollar sign thing.

Well I did see Cook talk about that in his wiki but I don’t know who they are. I just don’t like the kind of success Garrett’s having now. It really rubs me the wrong way.

Garret is Archie. The “Dead Man” is Wolfe. Garret’s cook is Fritz. More or less.

If you like the Garrett books, you’ll like the Nero Wolfe books.
