Apparently that’s for when the keys get entangled due to too rapid typing on the really old manual machines. Especially keys that are right next to each other. In later models I think it just overrode the margin setpoint.
I remember reading about that! Didn’t Cecil do a column on that’s why the QWERTY keyboard exists?

Not a QWERTY problem per se, but I don’t like the “insert” key which toggles to overwriting text mode, instead of inserting text, the way God intended. For some reason (I blame being dropped on my head as a baby), I keep inadvertently pressing that key, then forgetting what key caused the overwriting.
I also hate the placement of the “keyboard light on/off” on the F5 key. In the dark, I need the keyboard lights on so that I can find the “keyboard light” button. Either put that key someplace easier to find in the dark, or keep it always lit.
Thanks for mentioning that. I just realised that with Num Lock off, 7 is Home, 1 is End, 9 is Pg Up, and 3 is Pg Dn.
