Things you know exist, but you can't seem to find anywhere

I know that chiplotles exist. I, however, cannot find them. I have searched in several grocery stores, but to no avail. I look in the produce section, the canned veggies section, the canned fruit section, the mexican/ethic foods section, and NADA. Nothing. Damn it, I just want som chipotles!

I also cannot seem to find a lunch bag. You know, an insulated bag that zips up I can put my lunch in. I have looked in a K-Mart and a couple Wal-Marts. The closest I found was the second Wal-Mart had a small area on a shelf with bags, but all were for children. They had Spiderman, Pokemon, or what have you on them.

I know these things can be found, but where? Argh.

When I was little I used to eat this stuff that was kind of like a thick edible paste (usually red or green, IIRC) that came in a little squeeze bottle. You’re supposed to just squeeze the stuff in your mouth and eat it. It was delicious, and I loved it. I can’t for the life of me remember what it was called, though, and neither can my parents; I found one with some kind of (intentionally) sour flavor at a truck stop a while ago, but I haven’t seen a normal one since I was a little kid.

Also, there’s this Silly-Putty-like stuff that my RA recommended to me for putting up posters instead of using tape, because it sticks better and doesn’t do anything to the paint on the walls. I’ve even seen a few people on my floor use it. But I cannot find it anywhere.

Finally, there is a $100 check from one of my relatives as a graduation gift that seems to have disappeared from the face of the planet. I know it exists, because I remember opening the letter in my dorm room and taking out the check and putting it somewhere. It eludes all attempts at location, however.

I know happiness exists somewhere…

Adam

I’ve seen plainer insulated lunch bags at a few grocery stores in my area. And I use that sticky tack stuff for sticking glow-in-the-dark things to my walls. I do not currently need these things myself; that, I suspect, is why I can find them.

I cannot find a good time to go out.

That squeezable-edible-oh-so-sour candy in a tube might be Squeeze Pop… something familiar to most kids who have ever been to a 7-11.

And the blue poster stuff is sticky-tac… you buy it in flat sticks, usually found with Post-its and tacks.

And I can’t help you with the cheque, though I wish I could…

This one song…

I know it exists. My Dad has it on tape, even put it on his minidisc but I can’t find it anywhere.

When I was a kid there was this soap that would grow fuzz after you got it wet,I think it was in the shape of a little teddy bear. what I wouldn’t give to find some for my son…

If Wal-Mart and K-Mart don’t have them (at the moment–they are an April/May/early June item), try Target or the local supermarket.

Also, your local sporting goods store (Adirondack Lakes and Trails Outfitters, Blue Line Sport Shop, Major Plowshares Army Navy, or on-line at L L Bean).
I’m mildly surprised that Tops doesn’t carry chipotle, but it might be simply a matter of asking the manager when they get it in rather than relying on the stock clerks to actually identify that they have it.

Yeah, Squeeze Pop was the sour kind, the one I could find, which I didn’t like (I’m not a big sour-food fan). The one I mentioned that I wanted and couldn’t find is not sour.

I’ll check the school bookstore for the poster stuff, although last time I went they said they didn’t have any. May have just been out of stock. Actually, I’ll have to wait until I get some money, anyway (meaning I’ll have to find the checks and cash them!)

Fuzzy Wuzzy soap! I remember that, too, and looked for it for years for my own kids.

It’s not made anymore, but a similar product sometimes comes up on eBay.

I know the Zagnut bar exists but I can never find it.

So use Google™ on some of the lyrics.

Agent Foxtrot, not after the age of four. . .

Martin Hyde, you’ve got to try a smaller supermarket or convenience store. All the major chains have sold their souls to Hershey, Nestle, and M&M/Mars. (Although why anyone would want to add coconut to a perfectly nice Clark Bar, I have no idea.)

Martin Hyde, they have Zagnuts here. I don’t know about grocery stores though.

Girlfriends.

I’ve heard people mention them and have even seen them in the wild but I can never seem to catch one.

To the best of my knowledge, they’re almost entirely mythical. I got one of the last ones a few years back, but she’s gone now. I think they may still be available in certain parts of Europe, but I can’t afford to to go check.

They’re like unicorns.

I actually caught one just a few months ago, but alas, she has slipped through my hands.

Thanks for that website. I had seen Zagnuts online shortly after making my post but they were being sold for around $0.95 ish per Zagnut, that site is selling them for an economical $0.79.

I bought $30 worth of the delicious treats and they should be at my house within one day :).

Sadly it appears because I’m a resident of Virginia I had to pay sales tax :(.

It’s probably got more to do with living in the frigid North East than a lack of Grocery sleuthing skills. In Texas, you can’t walk into a grocery store without tripping over a misplaced pepper. They’re in just about every department, with the possible exception of dairy and baby food.

YMMV etc.

Pipe cleaners. I have a pipe to clean, but I can’t find any cleaners. Consarnit!
