Things you miss

The peppermint brownies from the bakery at Whole Foods. I actually filled out a comment card begging for them to bring them back, and they did for about five seconds, but now they’re gone again. They are the best brownies I’ve ever had.

I miss being in my 20’s, still a “kid” but with full adult privledges.
I miss my mom, she was a good person and a good friend.
I miss my 1974 Fiat 124 Spyder.

I miss my kids believing that Mommy knows everything. They’re so much fun as adults, but that wide-eyed 100% confidence in me really made me grow up. (the baby, Jack is 17 - he still calls me at work and uses me as his personal Google so I get the feeling sometimes still)

I miss my parents and my older sister. Sometimes something will happen and I’ll start to call one of them in my excitement. My pop died in 1982, my mom in 2000 and my sister Jackie in 2003. I miss having someone I can trust completely who is older than me that I can ask for guidance.

I miss my dog (who was a better sister than the human ones) Ermintrude. She was an all white German Shepherd with blue eyes. She died in 1977 when I was away at VUU.

I miss playing all day. My only job was to play all day.

I miss Drakes Cakes - they sell Little Debbie  here in the south. Devil Dogs, Yodels, Funnybones, Yankee Doodles…ahhh.

I miss LOVING Archie Comics and seriously arguing with my friends about the voice of Veronica after the cartoon debuted on Saturday morning.

I miss Gimbel’s, Thalheimer’s and Miller and Rhodes department store tea rooms.

I miss Great Eastern Stores. Their bakery had the best Charlotte Russe!

I miss Rockaway Beach and the little bait shop that sold french fries that were the best I’ve ever tasted.

Mostly I miss food. I miss good dirty rice and good fresh crawfish we got when we lived in Louisiana. I miss Papa Del’s pizza from Champaign. I miss decent bagels, but that at least I’ll get when we move back East.
Lots of good food has vanished. Red Baron used to have a great breakfast pizza which is no longer available in California. I saw a version of it in Pennsylvania. Fleishman’s margarine appears to be disappearing. My kids got me about the last four pounds of it in the Bay Area for Christmas.
