I just saw a post where someone trailed off a sentence like this… and I rolled my eyes at them for using more than three periods. Then I realized I never would have noticed that had I not read someone complaining about it here on the Dope.

I keep Bill Bryson’s *Short History of Everything *by the “throne” lately, and the other day I happened to flip to the chapter (“The Bounding Main”) about the history of 20th-century seafloor exploration, and he started discussing the Piccards, and I could just feel it coming…like this warm wave passing slowly across my brain…how long?..how long?..I KNEW ol’ Bill had to tell me…and sure enough, there it was, right in the middle of page 277…
Of course, any non-Doper doesn’t notice a thing when reading that section.
