Things You Remember Too Late

Ugh. When you bring things home in a plastic bag, and leave them on the bench at the end of the bed? The ceiling fan WILL start to rustle them in the middle of the night and wake up up.

I remembered tonight!

I’m so proud of myself…

Obviously admitting something on a messageboard is the first step to recovery.

I cook a lot. I clean as I go. I have a lovely set of Le Creuset enameled cast iron cookware.

About 3x a month I will forget to swap the damp dishcloth in my hand for the dry one over my shoulders when reaching for the nice, hot, iron skillet handle.

I haven’t burned myself seriously yet, but there have been so many, "ARGH! Shit! Dammit!"s coming from the kitchen that my wife doesn’t even bother to investigate anymore.

It’s called “Body getting used to you putting less food into it”. How do I know? Because this is what happens to me.

My :smack: is forgetting lunch and getting to the cafeteria 10 minutes AFTER they close. Then it’s off to rummage my pockets for change for the vending machines.

I don’t want to crap on this thread. But I was a boyscout. Be prepared. It has served me well so far in life.

I can’t help but comment on this. I hate that crap. It’s the same cast iron stuff my mom used when I was a kid but you knew way better than to grab it without a rag. I wouldn’t have a clue how to season it, however.

I was a Girl Scout for many years, preparedness was our motto, my car always has everything I would need, I always pack plenty for trips, I am almost always prepared for emergencies. On average, I am prepared for anything important.

That never seems to help me remember that popcorn gives me gas.

The enameled stuff is enameled both outside and in, so it doesn’t need seasoning.

Put on the parachute before jumping out of the plane.

But seriously…

Filling up on gas before the red “E” lights up accusingly.

Just locking the back door once, and being aware of it as I do so, instead of wondering and having to go back to check (I’m actually a little OCD about this).

Looking ahead in my calendar to send birthday cards ahead of time, to arrive on my friends’ actual birthdays.

(As for library fines, I rarely have a problem. Our local library lends materials on either a 2- or 4-week basis. I almost always go the library on Saturdays, so I know every Saturday I should check to see if anything’s due, or should be renewed, that day. As long as I keep to the weekly schedule I’m OK).

I always forget to change the battery in my garage door opener until it is too late and I am locked out of my house. Fortunately my neighbor who has a spare key has always been home.

Before anybody asks, I hate keys and coins in my pocket. I suppose I could put my house key in the car, I just never seem to get around to doing that.

Be careful on the Isle of Quel’Danas who you right-click on to talk to when you’re playing on your PVP server. Likewise, on any server, if you’re going to buff some random person who looks like he needs help, check to make sure he isn’t flagged first.

So for some reason, the genius who designed my apartment decided to cruelly have the air vent in the bathroom blowing DIRECTLY where I stand for a shower. As a result, during a hot shower, both heating and air conditioning feel like a blast of cold air on your wet body. On these really cold mornings, I tend to turn the heat off before I get in the shower so it doesn’t kick on and freeze my ass.

At least twice in the last two weeks I have forgotten to turn it back on before I left for work. Luckily, it’s been warm enough that it’s only 50-55 degrees in my place when I get home.

So … if the heat gets turned off, TURN IT BACK ON.

If I drive my car a fair distance, especially in the summer, the fan for the engine comes on, and sometimes it doesn’t turn off after the car is parked. If I would just turn the car off, and then turn the key back to ‘accessory’, and then back off before take the key out, the fan will stop and the battery won’t run down. But do I ever remember to do that after parking? You’d think I would, but no.

I’ll let a real mechanic like Rick or GaryT confirm this, but when your fan stays on after you shut off the engine, it’s supposed to do that, and if the battery runs down, that suggests either a weak battery that should be replaced or problems with your charging system. Defeating the cooling process with the work-around you describe could be overheating your engine and creating other problems.

Ah. Well, I replaced the battery the other day, anyway, because it was starting to not start for no reason at all. Haven’t had any problems since. Getting rid of the damn thing when my tax refund comes back anyway.
