Futurama - love animated shows (Simpsons, South Park, etc.), love Sci Fi, love SciFi spoofs. Hate Futurama for some reason. I can’t stand any of the characters.
The Original Fallout Games- love RPGs (Baldur’s Gate, etc.) love Sci Fi and dystopian ‘stuff’, could not stand the Fallout games.
I like his movies, I like most of the individual elements of his TV shows (the female heroes, the style of humor, etc.), and many friends whose opinions I deeply respect are complete Whedon worshippers, but I’ve never been able to get into any of his television shows.
There are all kinds of books, movies, TV shows, etc. that friends who share most of my tatstes and interests have told me I’d love, that most of the people in my social circles (nerdy, white males who went to high school in the 70s) are crazy about, but which I never liked at all, despite trying repeatedly.
Doctor Who is at the top of the list. I have TRIED to like that show, with several different stars, but I have failed miserably. I do not intend to give the Doctor any more chances to grow on me.
Joss Whedon is one of my stock answers along with some musicians who should be in my wheelhouse but I’m pretty unenthusiastic about (Neko Case and Cat Power come immediately to mind).
For a new answer though, I’ll say “video game music”. I play lots of games and enjoy lots of games but the music’s never been a major factor for me. But I talk online with lots of other fellow game players and a lot of them are into the game soundtracks, know who composed what songs from what game, etc. Not just the “Orchestra plays Super Mario Bros theme” type thing but actively giving a crap if the soundtrack to, say, Tomb Raider 2013 is available. I can’t begin to get my mind around it.
American Indian here, so I guess I’m s’posed to like booze. It literally tastes like what I imagine poison would taste like,
so I can barely tolerate swallowing it in whatever form it comes in. Like other things though.
I adore olive oil. I like all the things olives are paired with, but damn I cannot stand the taste or texture of the things. Vile, nasty, and persistent stuff. I honestly think I have some sort of obscure genetic mutation that picks up on a flavanoid differently from the rest of the human race.
Opera. BA in Music, classically-trained performer, hundreds of hours spent in rehearsal and performance in orchestras, symphonies and symphonic bands, and I cannot fucking stand opera.
Wine. It tastes like rotten banana peels to me. My friends love it, we’ve been gifted gorgeous bottles of various types, I’ve had brilliant recommendations by a sommelier. It has been a feat to choke it down every time.
Ditto yogurt. It’s healthful and beneficial, and I cannot stand the sour taste. I like tzatziki sauce, tandoori meat that’s been marinated, I can even tolerate a little raita. But put Dannon or Yoplait in front of me and I’m all, “no thanks, I wasn’t that hungry really”.
And I’m another one for dogs. I don’t HATE them, but they make me extremely uncomfortable. And I can appreciate from a distance that some of them are totally awesome. I have even enjoyed petting a dog or two. But me and dogs (and some of their owners) have a different understanding of personal space and boundaries, which makes it better for everyone if I just avoid them whenever possible. No matter how many times my best friend mentions her “kids”, I never remember that she means the dogs. I will never look at your 800 pictures of your dog panting on your couch and think it’s cute- I’ll just be thinking about how many times a week you have to vacuum that couch. I know this is a personality flaw of mine and I am very sorry that I feel this way, but dem’s da breaks.
I definitely second this. I love tomato sauce, ketchup, etc, etc, but raw tomatoes taste like mushy, watery grass. The world seems to be split up into tomato haters and tomato lovers to such an extent that sometimes I wonder if it’s genetic, like with cilantro.
I like fresh, crisp apples, but can’t stand them in any other form – baked apples, applesauce, apple pie, apple candy, apple juice, etc.
I think it’s the texture I like but not the flavor, and cooking or pureeing them softens the texture and intensifies the flavor. Conversely, my wife likes apples in every form *except *fresh.
Mushrooms, I suppose. I’m vegetarian, so according to every vegetarian option ever, I should love mushrooms. I don’t seem to, though. Maybe I’m mistaken about being vegetarian…
I’ve liked electronic music from as long as I can remember. From Kraftwerk, Yello, Art of Noise to Chemical Brothers, Skrillex, Moby.
The biggest complaint I hear from the masses who don’t like this genre is “It’s boring, uninspired, and very very repetative.”
So along comes Daft Punk who become massively popular end even break into the mainstream.
I hate Daft Punk. I find their music uninspired, boring, and very very repetative.
I dislike just about every olive you can find in one of those olive bars in fancy super markets. But give me those cheap pitted black olives in the can and I could eat my body weight in one sitting.
I hate crushed pepper balls out of that shaker thing at fancy restaurants. I love pepper, I put it on 90% of what I eat, but crushed pepper tastes like eating hot pepper flavored sand.

[li]Cooked fruit pies or tarts - I like sweets, but the thought of eating any kind of baked fruit nauseates me.[/li][li]Game of Thrones - I tried to watch one show and it was laughably pretentious that I turned it off. Never read teh books. Probably never will now that I don’t care for the series[/li][li]Soccer/“Football” - I like a variety of sports and I used to like playing soccer when I was younger. Cannot conceive of watching live or on television. Reminds me of a less interesting golf game with a bigger ball and more people around.[/li][li]Hawaiian pizzas - Love ham.Love pineapple. Love pizza. The combination of the three is like some kind of unholy trinity that I fear would cause me to lose my sense of taste.[/li][li]IPhones - I’m writing this on a Mac and I have an IPad and a IPod Touch. Just cannot bring myself to either own or consider owning an IPhone. I turn the television every time an ad for one comes on and I actively avoid reading anything about them.[/li][/ol]
By all accounts I should love Screeching Weasel. I love pop-punk, I love many of the other Lookout Records bands from the 90s, I love The Queers who play a lot of songs Ben Weasel co-wrote with Joe Queer. And yet, every Screeching Weasel CD I’ve listened to has been a big slab of 'meh. I don’t hate 'em, but I’m utterly indifferent to them.
The animated version of The Boondocks. I loved the comic strip. I just can not get into the show. I’ve tried multiple times and I can see why certain bits should be funny, but it doesn’t make me laugh or do anything but want to change the channel. Actually, I did laugh at the running gag in “The Return of the King” where Uncle Ruckus kept hitting random bystanders with the rocks he was attempting to throw at MLK
